Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the second Test between Bangladesh and Australia at Chittagong. I am Paulami Chakraborty and I will be your host for the day. It’s a must Test for Australia if they have to salvage some pride going forward. Never has an Australian side struggled like this against a lower-ranked Bangladesh. Nathan Lyon did his best to ensure Australia led all the way but resilient displays from Sabbir Rahman and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim limited the damage as Bangladesh ended Day One at 253 for 6.

Electing to bat, Bangladesh had slumped to 117 for 5. Their top 4 left-handers were Lyon’s prey as he picked up another five-for. Their first 5 batters were all left-handers but it were the right-handers, Mushfiqur and Sabbir, who got Bangladesh back in the game, stitching a 105-run stand for the sixth wicket. Sabbir eventually fell prey to Lyon for 66, while Mushfiqur continues to bat on 62 not out and he has been joined in the crease by Nasir Hossian.

“That’s up there with the hardest Test match cricket days I’ve ever had. This would be my 69th Test match and I don’t think I’ve been tested like that physically. The pitch was pretty good, to be fair, there’s not much spin there at all. I think I bowled four straight ones early and all hit the pads. [The heat] is just one of those things. This is why we do pre-season. You want to test yourself in the hardest conditions and see how you react,” Lyon said after Day One.

Australia are fielding 3 specialist spinners and the Lyon will have to roar again if Australia has to make it 1-1, reducing their defeat-spree in subcontinent.
