Good Morning, Suprabhāta! Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Bangladesh vs England 2016-17. This is Day Two of the first Test of the series. The match is being played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. The two teams are scheduled to play two Tests and have already played a One-Day International (ODI) series earlier. England walked into the series with a lot of confidence as they won the three-match ODI series 2-0 while Bangladesh had a good start to the Test series, having dismissed England’s top-order early on Day One of the match. Bangladesh have played exceptionally well on Day One. They picked four uncapped players in the side and took a daring step by letting three of them make their Test debut against a strong opponent like England. Mushfiqur did took another big risk of handing the ball to debutant Mehedi Hasan ahead of experienced names like Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam. While Shafiul Islam opened the bowling, spin was introduced soon after as Mehedi bowled the second over. He soon got Bangladesh their first breakthrough as he removed Ben Duckett for 14. Bangladesh got a big wicket the next over as Shakib removed Alastair Cook for 4 runs.

Mehedi Jasan struck again as he dismissed Gary Balance in the next over. Moeen Ali and Joe Root tried to settle things down a bit from here as they built up a much-needed partnership. The partnership added 62 runs before Root departed for 40. Moeen was the first England batsman to score a half-century in the match. He scored 68 while building a partnership of 88 runs with Jonny Bairstow, who was the next to score a half-century.

With contribution from the middle-order, England reached 258 for 7 at stumps of Day One. An exceptional performance came from Mehedi as he has already picked 5 wickets on his debut. Shakib was the other successful bowler as he bagged a couple of wickets.

As England resume on Day Two, Chris Woakes will bat on 36*, alongside Adil Rashid who is unbeaten on 5 runs.
