Shamim Chowdhury time. The Best Bangladesh Player Award (which is different from the Man of the Match Award) goes to Nasir Hossain. The Man of the Match, as expected, is Soumya Sarkar. With that I sign off today.

A clinical performance by Bangladesh. Mustafizur Rahman started things off with his deceptive cutters, Mashrafe Mortaza varied his pace intelligently, and Rubel Hossain often turned out to be too fast. The spinners supported well, Bangladesh fielded with panache, and Mortaza led from the front. A target of 163 was never supposed to be enough for The Tigers. Though Kagiso Rabada snared two quick wickets, Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah ensured Bangladesh suffered no further hiccups despite some inspired bowling from Imran Tahir. In the end they won the match comfortably, and qualified for the Champions Trophy.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Bangladesh 167 for 3 | Overs 27.4 | win by 7 wickets with 134 balls to spare

Tamim Iqbal 5(7) Soumya Sarkar 88*(79) Litton Das 17(14) Mahmudullah 50(64) Shakib Al Hasan 0*(4) Kyle Abbott 5-0-22-1 Kagiso Rabada 7-0-45-2 Chris Morris 3-0-29-0 Imran Tahir 8.4-1-40-0 JP Duminy 2-0-20-0 Farhaan Behardien 2-0-11-0

Tahir bowls an excellent googly, beating Soumya comprehensively. Soumya steps out in vengeance next ball, and the ball races to the extra-cover fence for four. This also brings up 150 for Bangladesh. The next ball, a full-toss, is swept to the fence. Abbott replaces Rabada. Mahmudullah hooks the first ball to bring up his 50 from 63 balls.

Tahir starts his ninth over with a long-hop. Soumya pulls for a two, but is beaten by one Tahir tosses up two balls later. He finishes things off with a slog-swept six off Tahir, helped a bit by Rabada with his fingertips! Bangladesh square the series!

OUT! Mahmudullah c Hashim Amla b Kyle Abbott 50(64)!

A quiet dismissal. Mahmudullah, having reached his fifty, would certainly have looked forward to finishing things off, but he played it tamely to Amla at short mid-wicket.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Bangladesh 145 for 2 | Overs 25 | Target 163

Soumya Sarkar 71(70), Mahmudullah 45(61)

Soumya goes for the slog-sweep, and the ball goes as high as a skyscraper. Faf and Rabada converge at fine-leg but both decide to pull out, and Soumya survives. Soumya flicks Tahir to bring up the 100-run partnership. This is also the record 3rd-wicket stand for Bangladesh against South Africa.

Rabada replaces Behardien. Mahmudullah steps out and dismisses him to the mid-wicket fence for four. Rabada bowls an excellent yorker to Soumya. good comeback. He pulls the last ball of the over violently for four more. Tahir sends down another excellent over at the other end, but fails to break through (it is too late anyway) as the asking rate drops below 1. This is Bangladesh’s highest partnership for any wicket against South Africa.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Bangladesh 120 for 2 | Overs 20 | Target 163

Soumya Sarkar 60(55), Mahmudullah 31(46)

There is a stumping appeal against Soumya by Tahir, but he was in. Tahir sends down a maiden. Soumya lofts Duminy over his head for four to bring up 100, and steps out and hits straight for four more! He plays to deep extra-cover for two to bring up his 50 off 47 balls. Tahir follows it with another excellent over. Behardien replaces JP, and Soumya steers him to the third-man fence.

Tahir starts the 20th over with a beautifully tossed up delivery. He follows it with a googly that beats Mahmudullah, stifled appeal. Mahmudullah plays out the over cautiously, taking a single off the last ball.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Bangladesh 95 for 2 | Overs 15 | Target 163

Soumya Sarkar 41(38), Mahmudullah 25(33)

Powerplay 2 starts. Morris bowls a rank long-hop, and Mahmudullah merely guides him to the fine-leg fence for four, terrible bowling. Finally Amla gets Tahir on, to replace Rabada. Tahir is bang on target. He sucks Soumya into a shot outside off and beats the outside edge. They play out Tahir’s first over.

Mahmudullah gives Morris the charge. By the look of things it seems they will take on the bowling, especially at the end opposite Tahir’s. Soumya flicks Morris to the mid-wicket fence, and what is more, it will be a FREE HIT (the no-ball also brings up the 50-run partnership) He makes full use of it, lofting the next ball over extra-cover. The next ball is a bouncer, Soumya hooks, it is a top-edge, and goes to the long-leg fence on the bounce.

As expected, they’re seeing off Tahir. Mahmudullah plays out five dot balls, and only when Tahir strays down leg does he sweep him for four. They take DRINKS. Duminy replaces Morris. Soumya cuts the second ball to the backward-point fence. Mahmudullah tries to sweep the last ball, edges, and the ball races to the fence. Duminy protests that these were byes, but in vain.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Bangladesh 57 for 2 | Overs 10 | Target 163

Soumya Sarkar 21(23), Mahmudullah 8(17)

Rabada oversteps, which means Bangladesh will get a FREE HIT. Mahmudullah goes for an almighty hoick outside off and misses completely. The camera, meanwhile, pans to Athar Ali Khan, who is spotting a suit, and to top everything, an impeccable bow. The match has finally reached a sedate phase, with Soumya and Mahmudullah restoring some normalcy.

Bangladesh need two calm heads, and these men are exactly the ones they need at the middle. Soumya flicks Rabada delicately behind square-leg for four. Morris replaces Abbott. Soumya lofts Morris over mid-off to bring up 50 for Bangladesh, they’re cruising here. He lofts Abbott over his head, but it is pulled off just ahead of the ropes. Rabada bowls three wides in the tenth over.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Bangladesh 33 for 2 | Overs 5 | Target 163

Soumya Sarkar 6(6), Mahmudullah 4(3)

Abbott starts proceedings after tea against Tamim. He goes astray, down leg, and with fine-leg up, Tamim gets an easy boundary. RABADA comes on from the other end. There is a commotion of sorts between Tamim (as he leaves) and Rossouw. Litton gets off the mark with a punch through cover for two. Rabada tries to bounce, Litton tries to hook, it’s a top-edge, but clears long-leg comfortably for SIX!

Soumya takes a single, and Litton simply leans into the stroke, placing it through mid-wicket. He lofts Rabada over square-leg, four more! Rabada brings one back to rap Litton on his knuckles, out comes the magic spray, looks like he has been seriously hit! Mahmudullah leg-glances the second ball for four. Soumya Sarkar has faced a single ball in the first four overs.

Soumya finally gets strike in the fifth over, and cuts Abbott brilliantly behind point. A fully-stretched Rabada cannot cut off the boundary.

OUT! Tamim Iqbal b Kagiso Rabada 5(7)!

Rabada strikes first ball, and Tamim has only himself to blame. He gave Rabada the charge (without any apparent reason) and inside-edged one on to the stumps.

OUT! Litton Das b Kagiso Rabada 17(14)!

Just after the scorcher that rapped Litton on the gloves, Rabada hits timber with a yorker, two down!

A clinical performance from Bangladesh. Mustafizur and Mortaza bowled tightly with the new ball. Mustafizur bowled on target throughout the innings, sneaking in his deceptive cutter at regular intervals. Rubel generated serious pace and troubled everyone who crossed his path. They were supported well by the spinners, Shakib, Nasir, and Mahmudullah. All in all, an excellent performance. Of South Africans, du Plessis and Behardien were the only ones to put up some resistance, but the entire line-up was choked into submission by the Bangladeshis.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 162 | Overs 46

Hashim Amla 22(37) Quinton de Kock 2(9) Faf du Plessis 41(64) Rilee Rossouw 4(24) David Miller 9(24) JP Duminy 13(21) Farhaan Behardien 36(44) Chris Morris 12(13) Kagiso Rabada 10(25) Kyle Abbott 5(11) Imran Tahir 1*(4) Mustafizur Rahman 10-1-38-3 Mashrafe Mortaza 5-0-17-1 Shakib Al Hasan 10-0-30-0 Rubel Hossain 9-2-34-2 Nasir Hossain 8-0-26-3 Mahmudullah 4-0-13-1

Mortaza replaces Rubel. Tahir seems to have one of the weirdest batting techniques in contemporary cricket, though he gets off strike with a steer.

OUT! Farhaan Behardien c Nasir Hossain b Mashrafe Mortaza 36(44)!

Behardien went for the big hoick over mid-wicket, but found Nasir at deep mid-wicket! It’s all over for South Africa!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 160 for 9 | Overs 45

Farhaan Behardien 35(41), Imran Tahir 0(1)

Powerplay 3 time. Behardien has enough, gives Mustafizur the charge, does not time it, still manages a boundary past mid-off. Rabada responds with a gorgeous cover-drive, now we’re talking! Following an excellent over from Rubel, Mustafizur bowls a slower, Behardien mistimes the ball completely; it soars over Mustafizur and lands behind him. Mustafizur bowls out, 10-1-38-3.

Behardien cuts loose, lofting Rubel cleanly over long-off for the first SIX of the match, bringing up 150 for South Africa. Abbott joins the fun with a delightful straight drive for four! Nasir replaces Mustafizur, and Behardien pulls him over mid-wicket for four.

OUT! Kagiso Rabada b Mustafizur Rahman 10(25)!

Mustafizur! He was taken for two fours in this over, but out came the cutter, jagging back off a length through Rabada’s gate and hitting the top of middle!

OUT! Kyle Abbott LBW b Nasir Hossain 5(11)!

Straight from Nasir, Abbott misses completely, and the umpire does not hesitate. Nine down!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 127 for 7 | Overs 40

Farhaan Behardien 12(27), Kagiso Rabada 5(22)

Rubel replaces Mustafizur. The first ball Rabada faces hurries on to him. The second reaches first slip on the bounce. Shakib bowls out, 10-0-30-0. Rubel bounces, and Behardien somehow survives. The next ball is too fast for Rabada: he pulls, the ball takes a leading edge, and falls just short of a diving Rubel! Mahmudullah replaces Shakib. Once again Rubel is too fast for Rabada, pushing him on back-foot and proving to be too fast for him. The next ball is a yorker, but Rabada digs it out. Rubel is bowling consistently in the 140s now.

OUT! Chris Morris LBW b Rubel Hossain 12(13)!

Straight, very fast, and Rubel hits pads! There was no doubt whatsoever!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 115 for 6 | Overs 35

Farhaan Behardien 6(19), Chris Morris 12(12)

Mahmudullah hits Behardien’s front pad, and they go up in unison. Behardien reviews, and it was missing stumps. Behardien lofts Mustafizur over mid-off, it falls safely, and South Africa’s 100 comes up in the 32nd over. DRINKS. Shakib comes on, and rightly so, to keep the pressure on. Morris paddle-sweeps him for four after what seems like a year. He follows with a cover-driven four off Mustafizur. He goes for a cross-batted slog-sweep off Shakib, and finds the boundary again!

OUT! JP Duminy c Sabbir Rahman b Mustafizur Rahman 13(21)!

Duminy falls! Mustafizur holds it back a bit, and Duminy goes for it. He was completely deceived by the lack of pace, and Sabbir takes an excellent catch at cover!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 95 for 5 | Overs 30

JP Duminy 10(14), Farhaan Behardien 1(8)

Mahmudullah’s ball turns the proverbial mile and hits Faf on the pad. Mortaza reviews, but it is not out — but the impact was umpire’s call. The ball needed to have been something like a micrometre inside what it actually was. JP responds with a backfoot cover-drive for four. Faf goes on back and lofts Nasir over extra-cover, they run two more.

Mustafizur comes back. Mortaza has given him two slips, and almost immediately he unleashes the cutter, beating Behardien’s edge (and the off-stump) by an inch. Another maiden.

OUT! Faf du Plessis c Soumya Sarkar b Nasir Hossain 41(64)!

The pressure was getting on to Faf. Trying to break the shackles, he went for the lofted shot over wide mid-on, but Soumya, running to his right, took a well-judged catch.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 80 for 4 | Overs 25

Faf du Plessis 36(53), JP Duminy 2(3)

Nasir continues with the good work. All five bowlers have been bang on target since morning. They started by drying up the boundaries, and have now made even singles hard to come by. Mortaza continues to remain aggressive with only two men inside the circle. Mahmudullah comes on. Shakib is looking better and better, taking the pace off on a slow, low track.

OUT! David Miller c Mashrafe Mortaza b Mahmudullah 9(24)!

Once again a batsman loses patience. Miller flicks it uppishly, and Mortaza takes a difficult catch at short mid-wicket. He now has most catches by a Bangladeshi in ODIs!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 65 for 3 | Overs 20

Faf du Plessis 28(43), David Miller 4(7)

Faf plays Shakib to deep extra-cover to bring up 50 for South Africa off the last ball before DRINKS. Rubel is still getting the ball to move (this is the 17th over, remember). Finally Faf decides to cut loose, steps out against Rubel, and lofts him over his head for four. Shakib is really on top, especially against Rossouw, bowling five dot balls on the trot in the 18th over.

OUT! Rilee Rossouw b Nasir Hossain 4(24)!

Nasir replaces Rubel, and strikes first ball! Rossouw was never in comfort. He went for the shot, but Nasir was accurate and pegged off-stump back.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 47 for 2 | Overs 15

Faf du Plessis 17(29), Rilee Rossouw 1(15)

Powerplay 2 starts. Rubel replaces Mustafizur. Shakib is bowling brilliantly here, varying his trajectory and pace. Rubel bowls straight and fast. Rubel is pumped up, and unleashes a scorcher at Rossouw! The next ball is a screaming yorker, Rubel is generating some pace! It is a wicket-maiden. Shakib gets one to kick off a length, leaving Rossouw clueless. Rubel sends down two maiden overs on the trot.

OUT! Hashim Amla b Rubel Hossain 22(37)!

Amla, perhaps a bit stifled by the pressure put on by Mustafizur and Shakib, plays across and Rubel hits timber!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 38 for 1 | Overs 10

Hashim Amla 18(31), Faf du Plessis 13(20)

A regal straight drive from Faf off Mortaza, the ball races to the fence. A rare full-toss from Mustafizur, dismissed casually past cover-point by Amla to the fence. The boundaries have generally dried up. Mushfiqur comes up to the stumps to Mortaza now. Faf drives through cover for a brace. Mustafizur bowls short outside off, Amla cuts fiercely, but Nasir was very alert at point. Finally some runs, Mustafizur bowls short, and Faf pulls him to the square-leg fence.

Shakib replaces Mortaza in the tenth over. Amla chips his second ball, and it falls just short of long-off, SAVED! Shakib sends down a slider, the inside-edged saved Faf, tremendous bowling, this!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 17 for 1 | Overs 5

Hashim Amla 9(17), Faf du Plessis 1(4)

Qdk and Amla walk out. Mustafizur starts proceedings against Amla, and is bang on target. Amla places one behind backward point for four. Mortaza sends one down leg and they get four leg-byes. He finds the edge, but it runs between Mushfiqur and first slip. Another four. Mustafizur is bang on target against Faf, bowling straight with the odd cutter thrown in.

OUT! Quinton de Kock c Sabbir Rahman b Mustafizur Rahman 2(9)!

Ripper! Mustafizur gets one to kick off a length. QdK can merely fend it, and Sabbir takes an easy catch at point, first blood!
