After Sri Lankan veteran batsman Kumar Sangakkara, essayed a knock of 319 to take them to a position of strength against Bangladesh, the hosts fought back to end the fourth day’s play of the second Test at Chittagong at 409 for the loss of eight wickets. For Bangladesh, Shamsur Rahman and Imrul Kayes notched up fine centuries. Shakib Al Hasan made 50. Ajantha Mendis, the spinner took four wickets for Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Sangakkara’s masterful triple century saw Sri Lanka take complete control of the proceedings. The spin-heavy Bangladesh attack couldn’t make inroads into Sri Lanka’s batting line-up.

Brief scores:

Sri Lanka 587 (Kumar Sangakkara 319, Mahela Jayawardene 72, Ajantha Mendis 47; Shakib Al Hasan 5 for 148) lead Bangladesh 409 for 8 (Shamsur Rahman 106, Imrul Kayes 115; Ajantha Mendis 4 for 84) by 178 runs.
