  • 6:57 PM IST

Bangladesh have lost the warm-up match against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI by an agonizingly close margin of 2 runs. Despite the heroics of Sabbir Rahman (72), Mosaddek Hossain (53), Mahmudullah (71)* and late blitz from skipper Mashrafe Mortaza (58), the tourists could not get over the line. They did not field Shakib or Tamim; a fact that perhaps played a role in defeat. For the hosts, Akila Dananjaya, Chaturanga de Silva and skipper Milinda Siriwardena were the best bowlers.

For Bangladesh, Shuvagata Hom and Sanzamul Islam were the pick of the bowlers. For the hosts, Kusal Perera, Sandun Weerakkody and Dhananjaya de Silva slammed fifties, while Thisara Perera & Dasun Shanaka played vital cameos towards the end.

  • 6:13 PM IST

It’s all over! Bangladesh lose by 2 runs! SLBPXI have kept their nerves to win the high-scoring thriller by 2 runs. Mortaza and Mahmudullah’s efforts go in vain in the end.

  • 6:11 PM IST

Bangladesh need 4 off 1 ball

  • 6:04 PM IST

Mortaza falls for 58(35), Bangladesh need 13 off 6!

  • 6:00 PM IST

    Bangladesh need 17 off 12. Mahmudullah 62*, Mortaza 56*.

  • 5:59 PM IST

Mahmudullah joins the party now, hammers a six and a four of the 48th over. Equation now 18 off 13.

  • 5:55 PM IST

    Bangladesh 322/7 in 47 overs, need 33 off 18.

Mortaza has played a blinder here. He is unbeaten on 54 off just 30 balls. He has hammered 4 sixes and as many fours in his knock. Can he get his side over the line?

  • 5:48 PM IST

    Bangladesh 307/7, 46 overs, need 48 from 24. Mahmudullah 45*, Mortaza 49*.

Bangladesh are still into the contest.

  • 5:39 PM IST

Bangladesh 294/7 in 44 overs. Mahmudullah 43(51)*, Mashrafe Mortaza 39(19)*.

    Need 61 from 36 balls.

Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza is having a blast out there. He is using the long handle to devastating effect, and has hammered 39* off just 19 balls. He has hit 4 sixes so far.

  • 5:26 PM IST

    Bangladesh 252/7, 40 overs. Mahmudullah 34*, Mortaza 7*.

Bangladesh are staring at a heavy defeat in this warm-up fixture against the SLBPXI. They are 252/7 in 40 overs and need another 103 runs from 10 overs to win it. However, it must be admitted that the tourists have done well to get to this position without the services of their two best batsmen — Shakib and Tamim. Mahmudullah and Mortaza are in the middle and the two will like to get some valuable practice and some runs under the belt before the series begins.

  • 4:43 PM IST

    Bangladesh 184/4 in 30 overs. Mosaddek 33*, Mahmudullah 10*.

Bangladesh need 171 from last 20 overs. They have a set Mosaddek and Mahmudullah in the middle, while Shakib, Tamim, Mortaza, Shuvagata and Nurul are yet to bat (available to bat). They must approach this contest as a 20-over match or a T20 from here on.

  • 4:20 PM IST

Bangladesh 152/4 in 25th over. Mosaddek Hossain 11*.

Mushfiqur Rahim c Shanaka b Chaturanga de Silva 20 (23)

Bangladesh have lost Mushfiqur Rahim for 23. Just when they had a nice little partnership developing, they have lost a big wicket. Young Mosaddek Hossain is in the middle now with out-of-favour from the Test team, Mahmudullah. Sri Lanka have used 7 bowlers so far and Chaturanga has been the most successful one of them. He has picked up two wickets so far, including the big scalps of Mushfiqur and Sabbir (72).

  • 3:57 PM IST

Bangladesh 123/2 in 18 overs. Sabbir 72*, Mushfiqur Rahim 2*.

Bangladesh have lost Soumya Sarkar for a well-compiled 47 off 43. He was dismissed against the run of play, just when he was starting to look dangerous. Skipper Siriwardena got the crucial breakthrough. However, Mushfiqur Rahim has come out to bat now to give company to Sabbir, who is going strong and looks set for a hundred here.

  • 3:30 PM IST

    Bangladesh 91/1 in 13 overs. Sabbir 51, Sarkar 32*.

Bangladesh have kept the required run rate in the chase under check. Despite losing a wicket on the first ball, they are now 91 for 1 in the 14th over. Sabbir, promoted to bat up the order, has brought up his half-century. Sarkar, who usually likes to play his shots in the powerplay, has been rather quiet so far. He looks to be happy playing the second fiddle.

  • 3:07 PM IST

Bangladesh 48/1 in 8 overs. Bangladesh lost opener Imrul Kayes on the first ball of the innings, when he was caught by Sandun Weerakkody off Binura Fernando’s bowling. Tamim Iqbal, team’s star opener, is not opening the innings, and perhaps may not play the warm up tie altogether. Soumya Sarkar, the other opener, is unbeaten on 22 while Sabbir Rahman, who came out to bat one down, is unbeaten on 26.

  • 2:36 PM IST

SLBP XI 354/7 in 50 overs. Fifties by Kusal Perera, Sandun Weerakkody and Dhananjaya de Silva in addition to breezy cameos by Thisara Perera and Dasun Shanaka have guided SL BP XI to 354 for 7 in the stipulated 50 overs. This is a massive score and will require a spectacular effort from the visitors to hunt it down. Shuvagata Hom and Sanzamul Islam did well to dry some runs up for the host side. But other bowlers leaked runs, which helped BP XI to post 354. Bangladesh have a battery of power hitters, and hence it will be interesting to see if they can gun this total down and keep their preparations ready for the LOI fixtures.

Innings break: Bangladesh need 355 to win!

  • 1:33 PM IST

SLBP XI 307/5 in 45 overs. Dhananjaya 43*, Thisara 34*.

As predicted, SLBP XI have comfortably crossed the 300-run mark. The bad news for Bangladesh is that 5 overs are yet to be bowled. Thisara is going great guns at the moment. He has hammered 34* off 24 balls. Dhananjaya too is going steady. If these two stick together till the end, 350 + is on the cards.

  • 1:07 PM IST

SLBP XI 269/5 in 40 overs. Dhananjaya 30*, Thisara 10*.

SLBP XI are heading towards a huge total here. They have reached to the 270-run mark with 60 more deliveries left in the match. In the middle are a set Dhananjaya and explosive Thisara Perera. If the latter stays there for 6-8 overs or till the end, he can bring absolute carnage. Bangladesh have used 7 bowlers so far. Shuvagata Hom and Sanzamul have been the pick of the bowlers.

  • 12:31 PM IST

SLBP XI 202/4 in 31 overs. Dhananjaya de Silva 2*. Chaturanga de Silva 0*.

The host side has lost skipper Milinda Siriwardena for 32. He was dismissed by left-arm spinner Sanzamul Islam. The southpaw is yet to play for Bangladesh in any format. Another jolt to the SLBP XI came when opener Kusal Perera had to retire out for 64. Chaturanga has now walked out to join Dhananjaya, who will be eager to have some runs under his belt after a quiet Test series.

  • 12:01 PM IST

UPDATE: Sandun Weerakkody perishes after scoring 67 off 54 balls. Skipper Milinda Siriwardena is the new man in. SLBP XI 173/2 after 27 overs.

  • 11:48 AM IST

The partnership between these two has now crossed the 100-run mark. It now stands at 105. Weerakkody has scored 64 of those.

  • 11:42 AM IST

SLBP XI: 141/1 in 21 overs. Kusal Perera 45(58) Sandun Weerakkody 64(47)

Kusal Perera is playing an innings so unlike him. He is unbeaten on 45 and has consumed 58 deliveries for the same. On the other hand, Weerakkody has brought up a quickfire fifty. He is unbeaten on 64 off just 47 balls. He has smacked 8 fours and 2 sixes so far. Perera, who was expected to play the aggressor’s role, is happy giving him a company here.

  • 11:33 AM IST

SLBP XI: 107/1 in 15 overs. Kusal Perera 37(41) Sandun Weerakkody 43(28)

Since the fall of first wicket, these two have added 71 runs, and at a very brisk rate too. Weerakkody has been the aggressor. Kusal Perera playing the second fiddle here, something he is not accustomed to doing.

  • 11:28 AM IST

Rubel Hossain has proved costly here. He has been carted for 22 runs off his 2 overs.

  • 11:25 AM IST

Mashrafe Mortaza and Taskin Ahmed started the proceedings for Bangladesh. Shuvagata Hom, included in the side for this series, has been introduced as the first change bowler.

  • 11:23 AM IST

SLBP XI: 37/1 in the 6th over. The SLBP XI side opened with Dilshan Munaweera and Kusal Perera. Munaweera, who has been on the T20 circuit for a long time now, recently made impact for SL T20I side in Australia. He started well here, but has finally been dismissed by Taskin Ahmed for 24. Kusal Perera & Sandun Weerakkody are in the middle now.

  • 10:50 AM IST

UPDATE: Bangladesh have won the toss and will field first.
Both teams can have 17 players per side, of whom only 11 can be used for batting and 11 for fielding.

  • 10:22 AM IST

Also importantly, the presence of such quality players makes this contest more exciting. Bangladesh are a different unit in LOIs. Moreover, they have recently beaten the hosts in a Test too. So there is no way Sri Lanka can take Bangladesh lightly.

  • 10:21 AM IST

The Board President’s XI (SLBP XI) squad comprises of players who have been in and around the Sri Lanka national team. Skipper Milinda Siriwardena, Thisara Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka and Kusal
Perera will be in serious contention for a berth in the national team for the upcoming series. Others like Dilshan Munaweera, Sandun Weerakkody, Akila Dananjaya and Sachith Pathirana have also been on the fringes. It will be interesting to see how they stake their claim with good performance in this game.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live updates for the 50-over practise match between Sri Lanka Board President’s XI and Bangladesh at Colombo Cricket Club, ahead of the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series followed by two Twenty20 International (T20Is). We will provide all the live cricket updates and happenings of this contest.  In all honesty, Bangladesh must be high on confidence after beating Sri Lankan in their own den in the second Test and drawing the series 1-1. The Board President’s XI will be lead by Milinda Siriwardana. However, the inclusion of Binura Fernando is subject to his fitness report. After drawing the Test series, Bangladesh must be eyeing to claim the ODI series, where they have done well in recent times.

However, their performance in ODIs is not upto the mark in overseas, but has ability to spring surprises. Given it is a practise game, victory or defeat will not matter much, but it will help Bangladeshi side get back in the limited-overs grove. Mashrafe Mortaza will lead the Bangladesh side along with the mixture of young and experienced players in the team.

In the Board President’s XI squad, there are not many big names apart from Thisara Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka and Kusal Perera. These four players, for that matter, will have to play the major role to win the match. Although, some startling performance can be expected from any other player. After this practise match, both teams will move to Dambulla to play first two ODIs of the series and then Colombo for third ODI.
