Live Cricket Score ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2015, July 19 all matches: Ireland top group, progress to ICC World Twenty20 2016 as PNG, Namibia lose

(Welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2015. A total of three matches will be played in the ICC World T20 Qualifier 2015 on July 19: Ireland vs Jersey, Papua New Guinea vs United States of America and Namibia vs Hong Kong. Jersey won against Nepal yesterday. Ireland vs Jersey will start first and will be followed by the other two matches. Jersey’s match will be crucial as they need to win this match to stay in contention for qualification, and for Ireland, the favourites, who haven’t yet qualified for the upcoming knockout rounds. Hong Kong’s match will be important too. Catch live score and updates of all the matches here.)
Two upsets worked out perfectly for Ireland, who retain top spot in the group with eight points. If either Namibia or Papua New Guinea had won their respective matches, the winning team would have gathered nine points and toppled Ireland to go to the top. If Namibia and Papua New Guinea had won, Namibia would most likely have clinched top spot due to an advantageous net run-rate. The final points table at the end of the group stages, looks like this.
Ireland, Hong Kong, Namibia and Papua New Guinea qualify for the playoffs from Group A, while from Group B, Scotland, Netherlands, Afghanistan and Oman qualify. The playoffs will begin Tuesday, with the team occupying second position in Group A (Hong Kong) playing the team in third in Group B (Afghanistan), and the second team in Group B (Netherlands) will take on the third in Group A (Namibia).
Live Cricket Score: PNG 129/9 | Overs 20 (Target 148): Right-arm fast-medium bowler Hammad Shahid effective 18th over, which gave away just two runs, and had the wicket of Norman Vanua taken, seemed to effectively end PNG’s hopes. Man of the Match: Nicholas Standford
Live Cricket Score: Namibia 114 | Overs 15.2 (Target 199): Hong Kong’s bowlers kept chipping away at Namibia, with regular wickets. Left-arm spinner Nadeem Ahmed took five wickets for 12 runs in 3.1 overs. Hong Kong win by 83 runs.
Man of the Match: Irfan Ahmed
Live Cricket Score: PNG 115/7 | Overs 17: When only five runs were conceded in the 12th over, and the wicket of Sese Bau, who had held for a while for PNG, fell, it seemed they fell further into quicksand. But a few big hits were effected, to get crucial runs: 12, 13, 8, 12, off the next four overs, to remain in the hunt for the chase. But Kila Pala fell in the 15th over, and a seventh fell, further setbacks. They need 33 off 18 balls with four wickets left. Batting: Charles Amini 13 (8)
Live Cricket Score: Namibia 91/4 | Overs 10 (Target 199): The required run-rate is steadily climbing, with Namibia unable to string together productive overs. The seventh over had a wicket taken and four singles scored off it, and although a six was hit in each of the next two overs, they were still behind the required run-rate. Sarel Burger and Craig Williams have put on a stand of 36 runs. Batting: Sarel Burger 23 (18), Criag Williams 20 (12)
Live Cricket Score: PNG 49/4 | Overs 10 (Target 148): There was a six hit in the sixth over off USA captain Muhammad Ghous by Sese Bau, who has scored slowly otherwise, and with Jack Vare, he has helped put on 21 runs in five overs. A bunch of wickets towards the end did not impede the run-scoring, as fours were still being hit. Despite Ahmed’s and Babar Hayat’s wickets, the 18th over had eight runs extracted off it. The next over also had a wicket, that of Tanwir Afzal, but eight runs were taken off it too, and the final over had Haseeb Amjad getting out off the last ball after hitting a boundary. The 16th over, however, bowled by Sarel Burger, was less expensive; with two doubles and four singles, eight runs were had. Batting: Irfan Ahmed 90 (50), Babar Hayat 6 (4)
Live Cricket Score: USA 102/3 | Overs 16: The run-rate has dropped, as in the last five overs, only 22 runs have been scored, and a wicket has fallen. Batting: Japen Patel 13 (9), Alex Amsterdam 1 (4)
Live Cricket Score: Hong Kong 82/1 | Overs 9: Despite the loss of Jamie Atkinson, who scored an 18-ball 28, Hong Kong have sustained their momentum, courtesy Irfan Ahmed, and maintained a run-rate of more than nine an over. Live Cricket Score: USA 65/1 | Overs 8: Babar hit three fours off the fourth over, and Dodson hit two fours and a six in the next, to accelerate USA’s scoring after a quieter initial period, and make the best use of the remaining overs in the powerplay of six overs. Kevin O’Brien, after scoring eight off five balls, tried a fine sweep but missed the ball, and was struck on he pads in front of the stumps. His wicket brought wicketkeeper Gary Wilson to the crease. Wilson and Balbirnie are intent taking the runs on offer in singles, but both have scored a four in their innings so far: one via a cut, and other via a slog. Two runs are needed to win. Batting: Andrew Balbirnie 31 (32), Gary Wilson 10 (9)
Live Cricket Score: Ireland 92/2 | Overs 12 (Target 123): Stirling and Balirnie have been paying smartly to close in on the win. Batting: Andrew Balbirnie 20 (22), Kevin O’Brien 0 (2)
Live Cricket Score: Ireland 62/1 | Overs 8 (Target 123): After Stirling’s scorching drive through the off side, Porterfield flicked a ball on leg stump to send it over long-leg for a big six. He tried to repeat his shot, this time off a ball slightly shorter, but couldn’t connect well and was caught by the fielder at deep square leg. Amid a few singles, Stirling hit another cracking boundary in the off side. Three singles, two by Stirling were gathered off Ben Kynman’s first over, the eighth. Kay, however, conceded nine off his second over, the third of the innings, helped by a four due to a short ball, and two twos. Stirling, then deposited Kay in two commanding boundary hits, one a six towards long-off with a skip down the track, an the other a four. Batting: Paul Stirling 22 (15), William Porterfield 10 (9)
Live Cricket Score: Jersey 122 | Overs 20: Corey Bisson also joined the list of wickets taken by catches in the deep, when he mistimed Alex Cusack, in the penultimate over, to long-off. That over had just four runs off it, in singles and a doubles. The slide continued, with Charles Perchard getting bowled by Mooney, who bowled the final over, off a balooning full toss that hit the wickets missing his attempted cheeky sweep. Mooney had Ben Kynman caught off a slower ball, and Ben Stevens caught at deep square leg, to complete a hat-trick. Not Out: Rhys Palmer 0 (0)
Live Cricket Score: Jersey 115/6 | Overs 18: Stirling bowled a stifling over which had only a four and a single given off it, the four arriving fue to the inability of the wicketkeeper to collect a ball outside leg stump. Bodenstein, who played four balls in the over, and Gough, tried to play cheeky shots, and targeted big hits, but weren’t successful. Bodenstein departed trying to get leverage on an attempted lofted big hit, which was swallowed by long-off. In the next over, Gough came down the track with similar intentions, and clumsily provided a catch to the midwicket fielder. After three singles, the next man in Nat Watkins also departed, caught by cover. Anthony Kay and Ben Stevens got singles in turns, to long-on, deep point and square leg, before Kay was lbw off a full delivery from Stirling. Batting: Ben Stevens 4 (4), Corey Bisson 0 (1)
Live Cricket Score: Jersey 102/2 | Overs 15: There were 15 scampered runs collected by Jersey, but in search of a lap sweep for four, Jenner departed, lbw by Stirling. Batting: Peter Gough 41 (41), Cornelis Bodenstein 7 (6)
Live Cricket Score: Jersey 79/1 | Overs 12: The first six of the innings arrived via Jenner’s smash off a length ball to long-on, an three other runs arrived from the over. Kevin O’Brien’s first over, the 11th, turned out to be an expensive one, with nine runs off it, coming through a four and five scampered runs. There is an urgency about Jenner and Gough. Paul Stirling’s off spin was not allowed to be scored much off; after four singles, Gough tried to reverse-hit him out of the ground, but couldn’t connect. Batting: Peter Gough 32 (34), Jonty Jenner 19 (16)
Live Cricket Score: Jersey 56/1 | Overs 9: After hitting a boundary down the ground that had left-arm spinner George Dockrell leaping to get a hand on the heavily hit shot, Ed Farley departed trying to clear the long-on fielder, who pointed to someone on the off side after taking the catch. Gough collects four singles coming down the track and placing the ball to long-on. Gough got a knee down and lofted Mooney towards deep point, off the next over, pulled him to deep square leg, and off the final ball of the over, executed a nicely placed drive that travelled smoothly to the mid-off boundary. The fifty was up for Jersey in 47 balls. Three dots decorate Young’s fourth over, before a tightly run single was taken, and a couple more dots. Accurate bowling from Young, who finished his spell at 0 for 12. Batting: Peter Gough 26 (26), Jonty Jenner 3 (6)
Live Cricket Score: Jersey 37/0 | Overs 6: Farley climbed on to a full delivery outside off that was turned into a half-volley by the batsman’s shifting of his feet forward in anticipation. He, then, pulled Cusack for a single, before Gough got an outside edge lobbing to the deep point region for a three, and connected an effortless cover drive on the off side for four. This fourth over had 13 collected by the openers off it. Off the next over, there is a yorker, a surprise-inducing short ball, a push for a single to mid-on, a run down the track off a slower ball that yielded nothing, and a single off a pull to leg. Medium-fast bowler John Mooney replaced Young , and had Gough attempting a pre-conceived padle sweep. Off another ball, a yorker length ball, the wicketkeeper was unable to avoid a ball from going behind him. Off mitigating lengths, he had a couple of mild lbw shouts. There are singles to mid-on and mid-off. The batting is steady so far, and the bowling, too. Batting: Ed Farley 21 (21), Peter Gough 10 (15)
Live Cricket Score: Jersey 13/0 | Overs 3: The ball is shaping well for Ireland’s bowlers due to the available swing. The first over is safely negotiated for two runs. Ed Farley attempted drives off a good length outside outside off stump that seamed after pitching, from Alex Cusack. After shifting towards off to play a similar delivery off the third, he played a drive for two off a slightly fuller delivery, off a similar line. He took another brace to leg off the last ball to get five off that over. The first boundary arrived in the third over off Craig Young, who dropped the ball short to allow Farley to connect a pull well towards midwicket. Peter Gough tried to play a cheeky sweep to send the ball behind the wicketkeeper, but missed. Batting: Ed Farley 11 (13), Peter Gough 2 (5)
Toss: Ireland win toss and bowl.
Teams:
Ireland: William Porterfield (c), Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie, Gary Wilson (wk), Kevin O’Brien, John Mooney, Stuart Poynter, Stuart Thompson, George Dockrell, Alex Cusack, Craig Young
Jersey: Peter Gough (c), Edward Farley (wk), Jonty Jenner, Cornelis Bodenstein, Ben Stevens, Nat Watkins, Corey Bisson, Charles Perchard, Ben Kynman, Anthony Kay, Rhys Palmer
Ireland captain William Porterfield expressed his intent to make the most of the favourable bowling conditions due to an early start in Dublin, but Peter Gough, the Jersey captain, said he was undecided about the toss and was happy to either bowl or bat first. The event has shown a few surprises, as upsets have not been infrequent. Afghanistan, Ireland, Scotland, and Netherlands, the teams tipped to dominate, have suffered losses. Jersey, although underdogs today, can take confidence from their two wins earlier in the event, to make an upset against Ireland, who somehow never quite got going in their modest chase of 129 against an accurate Hong Kong attack, and lost by five runs.
Earlier, Scotland booked their place at the ICC World Twenty20 2016 to be held in India, topping Pool B in the ongoing qualifiers. Kyle Coetzer, with his brilliant 63, helped Scotland reach 173 for 5 in Edinburgh, beating Oman by 23 runs and make it four wins from six group games. Six teams from this tournament will qualify for next year’s event, with the knockouts, involving eight teams, out of which have qualified, due to commence on Tuesday. Namibia and Papua New Guinea from Group A, as well as Scotland, Netherlands, Afghanistan and Oman from Group B have qualified for the knockout stages. As many as six matches took place on Saturday. The Afghanistan-Canada match was washed out without a ball being bowled. Namibia and Scotland are the toppers of Group A and B respectively, both teams winning by comfortable margins against Papua New Guinea and Oman respectively. Ireland suffered a rare loss, to Hong Kong on Friday, and they are yet to qualify for the knockouts POINTS TABLE: ICC World T20 Qualifiers 2015
