Karn Sharma in to bowl what should be the penultimate over. Steve Smith sees him off, maiden over late in the day for Karn. It’s his first in Test cricket. AND HE’S GONE! Shami gets his second right at the end. Brad Haddin edges this one to Saha. That’s stumps as well.
OUT! B Haddin 0(5) c Saha b Shami

Aaron and Shami finishing off the day today. Aaron approaching his century. AND SHAMI GETS HIS MAN! Lyon cleaned up by Shami. In walks Brad Haddin.
OUT! N Lyon 3 (14) b Shami

OH HE’S GONE! OUT OF NOWHERE! Mitch Marsh was promising so much, but he’s edged this one to Virat Kohli. Varun Aaron celebrates.
OUT! M Marsh 41 (87) c Kohli b Aaron

The first over off the new ball goes for 10 runs. Steven Smith moves to 63 with a boundary and he raises his bat as the crowd also applaud.
Australia in total command. India will now have the new ball available and Kohli has called for it as soon as the over was done. Shami was into the attack earlier. India would now hope they get some purchase from the new ball.
Smith has got his half-century. Karn comes back into the attack and has been played down the ground for a single.
Marsh is playing some good shots. He had hit Varun Aaron for a four through cover and then drove Murali Vijay through cover. Australia firmly in control.

Steven Smith batting quite beautifully here. Mitchell Marsh batting well at the other end too. Varun Aaron bowls an expensive 70th over, India in desperate news of some wickets. Australia go past 300 as well now.
Ishant Sharma has been brought back into the attack. The two batsmen are working the strike over and going at about three an over. Ishant continues to bowl well and is bowling full.
A quiet passage of play here. There aren’t too many runs scored. Karn is bowling well and keeping the batsmen in check.
Warner has been dismissed! He charged down the track and lofted Karn over mid-wicket. There is a fielder in the deep and he has been dismissed.
OUT! D Warner 145(163)

India have brought on two spinners. While Karn continues from one end, you have Murali VIjay at the other. There was a shout for a stumping off Karn as Warner missed a sweep. But, he has got his foot back in time.
Karn Sharma starts after tea. He is coming from round the wicket to David Warner. There was a chance of a run-out! Warner played it to the leg-side and ran, but was sent back. Murali Vijay did not pick it up cleanly. Warner gets off-strike with a single later in the over.
Shami in to bowl what could be the last over before Tea. Steve Smith plays out the over without a lot of trouble. India needs to rearrange themselves very quickly. Smith clips the last ball away for a boundary to end the session in style.

Steven Smith got off the mark with a graceful boundary through the off-side. Warner is meanwhile biding his time and is setting sights for a long one. He does try to attack Shami, who comes back to bowl his 11th over. Warner then plays one through the leg-side for a couple. Smith then plays one through the cover and it has gone for a four. What a shot!
Clarke has retired hurt. His back has acted up and he is making his way back to the pavillion. He looked in obvious discomfort here.
RETIRED HURT! M Clarke 60(84)
Michael Clarke has got to his 50. It is an emotional one and he has quietly raised his bat. Warner then sweeps Karn for a four. Clarke ends the over by getting three through third-man.

Karn Sharma is back and Warner plays a couple of dots. He then punches down the ground for a single. Muted celebrations, but he has a leap and hugs Clarke. Everyone applauds him in unison. Warner is feeling quite emotional.
Aaron is back and Warner pulls the first ball for a single. He moves to 99. Aaron goes past Clarke’s outside edge and there was a sound. However, it is given not out despite the noise. India are disappointed. Replays show that the bat hit the pad. Hot Spot shows there was no edge. Clarke then plays one through the mid-wicket region for a four.

Karn comes on and Warner blocks a few very well. And then he places one through the off-side for a couple. He gets a single later to move to 98.
Warner has moved into the 90s now and is getting ever so close to that memorable hundred. He drove Varun Aaron through the cover region to move to 94 and took a single to get to 95. At the other end, Clarke is also playing some great shots, punishing anything short.

Warner and Clarke have now put up a solid partnership. Clarke has played a few crisp shots down the ground, which have fetched him quite a few runs. Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma are in force.
Shami begins after the lunch interval. Warner is on strike. Only one run taken off the over to begin with.

Ishant in to bowl the 24th over, it could be the final one of the session. India’s over-rate has not been very good. Though Warner’s early flurry of boundaries could be a reason for this. Australia have done well this session, but it has been all due to Warner. Ishant by far has been India’s best bowler. Warner remains unbeaten on 77 at Lunch.

India have brought back Ishant and he continues to bowl well. There is a change of ends for Karn. Warner lofts Karn down the ground and it goes straight for a four. Warner then dances down the ground again and drives it through the off-side for a four.

Warner moves to 63 and there is another look at the heaven. Karn bowls a full toss and Warner swept it for a couple. The crowd applaud as he reached 63. He then takes a single next ball. Karn had delivered another full-toss. After three full-tosses, He finally gets a ball to pitch as Clarke plays it down. He gets off the mark with a single down the ground.
Varun Aaron gets a wicket! He pitches it in the corridor of uncertainty and Watson has edged it to second slip, where Shikhar Dhawan has taken another catch. Michael Clarke is the new man and Aaron welcomes him with a short ball. Clarke lets it go as they exchange a stare.
OUT! S Watson 14(33)
Warner has continued to pick the deliveries to attack. He carts Aaron for a four over mid-off. Aaron has had a forgettable spell this morning and needs to refresh to get back. Meanwhile, Karn Sharma has been introduced into the attack. He starts off with a full-toss, but no damage done. Warner charges to one later and gets a single. Watson gets a single to complete the over.

David Warner moves to 49 with a pull shot through the mid-wicket region. That has gone for a four. He then plays one through fine-leg and it has gone for another four. Muted celebrations! He raises his bat as the crowd applauds. He has one look at the sky. He then flicks one to the leg-side for a single.
Some sanity to the proceedings here. We had a drinks break after the 11th over. It has been slow going for India in terms of over rate. Watson had gotten off the mark earlier. Aaron has been brought back into the attack. Expect it to be a short spell. Watson has been played for a couple of boundaries through the off-side. Aaron still going for runs.

Ishant welcomes Shane Watson with a short ball as he lets it go through to the wicketkeeper. Shami will continue to Warner at the other end. He changes to round the wicket after the first ball and then delivers a short-one. Warner sways out of the way. Warner then pushes one through the off-side and gets three for that. Warner has moved into the 40s.

Australia’s 50 has come up. David Warner has tucked it through the leg-side for a quiet single. It has been a very good start for Australia. Ishant Sharma replaced Varun Aaron after he had bowled two overs. He started off with a maiden to Warner. Rogers is gradually getting his eye in. He had driven Shami down the ground for a four. That was his first boundary in the game. Edged and taken! Ishant has got the wicket. Rogers has edged a delivery from outside the off-stump to second slip. It carried at a comfortable height to Shikhar Dhawan.
OUT! C Rogers 9(22,

Aaron bowls a short ball and Warner just gets out of the way. The first short ball of the game and there is an applause. In fact, it is the first ball to go to the wicketkeeper in this game. Aaron bowls another one short but it is outside the off-stump and Warner has upper-cut it for a four. To add to his woes, it is a no-ball. Warner then punches it through cover for a couple. Aaron follows that up with a wide. He has now switched to over the wicket. What an eventful morning it has been so far. Warner flicks it to the deep on the leg-side and it is a single. Aaron bowls well to Rogers and gets past his outside edge. There is an appeal off the last ball, but in vain.

Shami continues from round the wicket and Shami bowls it a bit wide. Warner drives it over the off-side for another four. The next b all is punched through cover for four. What a start for the Aussie! After a couple of dots, Warner smashes it through cover again. This time, it was on the rise and he played it very well, going through the shot. Warner punches the next down the ground and there is a misfield. That allows him to get three.
Varun Aaron comes from round the wicket. He shares the new ball. And what a start for David Warner. He punches the first ball through cover for a four. Good shot as he was leaning forward on the drive. Positive start for him. Remember, he is going through a very emotional time. Aaron then gets one to move into him and Warner plays it out. There was a lot of swing on that one. Aaron oversteps and Warner has a bit of width. He has been played through the off-side for a four. He picked the gap between point and gully. There is width again and Warner has hit him through the same region for a four. What a good start for Aaron. A single to end the over.

Mohammed Shami begins proceedings. He is coming from round the wicket to Chris Rogers. He gets off the mark off the second ball with a couple to fine-leg. Rogers doesn’t seem very comfortable with him coming from round the wicket. Shami is holding a good line in the first over. Decent pace to start with. One ball even hits Rogers on the body as it comes into him. For the last ball, Shami comes from over the wicket. Dot ball to end with. That’s the first over.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the first Test match between Australia and India at Adelaide. I am Nishad Pai Vaidya and I will be bringing you the live updates of the match.

Virat Kohli will lead India in this first Test which will be played at Adelaide on Tuesday. The first Test which was earlier scheduled to be held at Brisbane was shifted to Adelaide as the series was re-scheduled following the demise of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes’. MS Dhoni who arrived in Australia in time for the first Test but he was later ruled out following his thumb injury which was yet to heal. The Indian team has spent a lot of time in Australia and have also played two practice games against Cricket Australia (CA XI).

Kohli was impressive in the practice games as he scored half-century in both the games. It will be an important opportunity for him and other young Indian batsmen to come up with a spirited show in the testing conditions. India will miss the services of Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has been ruled out of the first two Tests following an ankle injury.

Australia will be led by Michael Clarke in the first Test after he was declared fit to play. The past few days have been really tough for them and everyone would be waiting to see how do they perform in the first Test. They would be wearing 408 on their shirts as a mark of respect to Hughes. Hughes has also been named as the 13th man for the game. Australia have left out Josh Hazelwood and have included Nathan Lyon, the lone spinner in the line-up.

Mitchell Johnson will lead the pace attack for Australia with Peter Siddle and Ryan Harris. Steven Smith and Mitchell Marsh will play important duties both with the bat and ball.
