Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the third One-Day International (ODI) between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). I am Chinmay Jawalekar and I will bring you over-by-over updates from what promises to be another good match. The hosts Australia first conceded then chased down record totals at Perth and Brisbane in the first two ODIs. The script followed by both teams has been remarkably similar; Rohit Sharma scoring a century and Virat Kohli scoring a half-century, India posting a 300-plus total, and George Bailey guiding Australia to an easy win. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Australia 2015-16, 3rd ODI at MCG.

India fight to stay alive in the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. The hosts are leading the five-match series 2-0 after consecutive record-breaking chases at the WACA in Perth and The Gabba in Brisbane in the first two matches of the series. Rohit Sharma has been in wonderful form for India, and has been backed up well by Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, but the rest of India’s batting has yet to come through in spades. More importantly, it has been India’s poor bowling that has been a big let-down. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were excellent in the recent Test series in India, but both men have struggled in the unhelpful Australian conditions. READ:  India vs Australia live score: भारत बनाम ऑस्ट्रेलिया तीसरा एकदिवसीय, मेलबर्न.

Meanwhile, George Bailey has led the Australian batting machine with much aplomb, scoring a superb century in the first ODI at Perth and following it up with an unbeaten 76 in the second match at Brisbane. Steven Smith scored a century in the first match as well and looked good for his 46 at the Gabba. Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch got Australia off to a superb start in the second ODI, which further compounded India’s problems. If Australia win the third ODI they will take the series with an unassailable 3-0 lead, so India will be looking to come back into the series right away.

It was the same old sorry tale for India, as they once again failed to defend a good total. The same script unfolded at Melbourne when team India posted a near-300 score on the board and their bowlers were simply not good enough to see them home for the first time in the series. With this loss, India have lost the series as well. There will be a lot of questions for Dhoni when he goes for the post-match presentation and the Press Conference. Time for him to wear his thinking cap, as he will have a lot of thinking work to do. Read Rishad DSouza’s match report here and allow me to say goodbye to you all!

Live cricket score: Australia 296/7 | Overs 48.5 | India 295/6 | BATTING: James Faulkner 21(25), John Hastings 0(0): That’s it!! Australia have won the 3rd ODI by 7 wickets. Wit this win, they have also won the series with two matches to go. Maxwell was the star for Australia, as he scored 83-ball 96 before getting out trying to go for his hundred with just one run remaining to win. Faulkner then completed the formalities. India, who have yet again failed to defend a good total, will have a lot to ponder over their bowling while the Australians will celebrate the series win.

OUT! Glenn Maxwell c Dhawan b Umesh 96(83)

Live cricket score: Australia 280/6 | Overs 47 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 84(77),  James Faulkner 18(20): Australia just need 16 more runs to win now from 18 balls, which should be a cakewalk with Maxwell and Faulkner in the middle. Another poor outing for team India. The script simply has not changed for last three games. India have batted first, scored 300-odd runs, and still lost the match. The batsmen have done their jobs but the bowlers have struggled, as Dhoni has not been able to figure out a winning combination as yet. With the series going away from them, Indians are left with a lot to ponder.

Live cricket score: Australia 261/6 | Overs 45 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 74(71),  James Faulkner 9(14): Umesh’s strange decision of not throwing at the batsman’s end when Maxwell was out of crease is trending now. Maxi played an Ishnat delivery towards square leg, where Umesh was positioned, and set-off for a single. Umesh picks up the ball but does not throw it since no one was backing. He should have taken the chance, as Maxwell’s wicket was all India needed. Australia just need 35 from 30 balls now.

Live cricket score: Australia 252/6 | Overs 43 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 68(62),  James Faulkner 5(8): Just when Umesh was threatening to get a breakthrough with his sheer pace and accuracy, The Big Show decides he had enough. Maxwell smacks him over his head for a six over long-off. To make things worse, he comes up with a beamer, that costs him a boundary, an extra ball and an extra run. Australia are running away with this game; only 44 needed from 42 balls now.

Live cricket score: Australia 232/6 | Overs 41 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 53(56),  James Faulkner 2(4): Umesh has bowled brilliantly today and has been easily India’s best bowler behind Jadeja. He was wayward to begin with, but has come back really strong, not giving away anything and at the same time creating half-chances. What will worry India is that he is nearing the end of his spell, and so is Ishant. Dhoni will have to go back to Sran or Rishi Dhawan to fill-in. Maxwell has meanwhile brought in his half-century. He is playing a matured innings now, quite opposite to his character.

Live cricket score: Australia 219/6 | Overs 39 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 41(46),  James Faulkner 1(2): OUT! Ishant has delivered just when the team needed it the most from him. Wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade has become the sixth Australian wicket to fall. He looked to pull away a short ball and ended up skying it high in the air, only for Shikhar Dhawan to pouch it at mid-on. The match has become interesting now, with Australia needing 77 from 11 overs. Maxwell and James Faulkner, two of the best finishers Australia have, are in the middle now.

OUT! Matthew Wade c Shikhar Dhawan b Ishant 6(10)

Live cricket score: Australia 210/5 | Overs 37 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 37(40),  Matthew Wade 3(6): OUT! India have managed to create a special moment here! A complacent Mitchell Marsh was found short of crease by a powerful Umesh throw from the deep, which was collected by Dhoni. The duo was trying to steal the second run there but Umesh, who has got a strong arm, earns India a surprise wicket. With this wicket, India are back into the game big time!

OUT! Mitchell Marsh run out (Umesh/Dhoni) 17(14)

Live cricket score: Australia 202/4 | Overs 35 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 32(34),  Mitchell Marsh 17(14): Sran continues to be erratic but Umesh bowled a brilliant over, which was innings’ 35th. A couple of huge appeals for LBW came off the over, which conceded just two runs. Indians are perhaps one wicket away from being back into the match. It is upto the senior bowlers Ishant and Umesh now to deliver the goods.

Live cricket score: Australia 194/4 | Overs 33 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 28(27),  Mitchell Marsh 13(9): India need to stop Maxi here, for he can single-handedly take it away from them. He has already started to open up. A cheeky upper-cut off Ishant was just a reminder of his skills. The younger Marsh, Mitchell has joined him now. Sran, who was brought back into the attack, has got the pasting today. The newcomers have little to do now as the match proceeds towards the business end now.

Live cricket score: Australia 178/4 | Overs 31 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Glenn Maxwell 21(21),  Mitchell Marsh 5(3):  OUT! Ishant returns to get the all-important wicket of Shaun Marsh. That’s the thing with Marsh, he seems to be content with those fifty-plus scores and tends to lose his focus after reaching to that milestone. Here again he has thrown away a start, giving a regulation catch to Dhoni. Maxwell is starting to get into his zone and India need to see his back at the earliest before he runs away with the game.

OUT! Shaun Marsh c Dhoni b Ishant 62(73)

Live cricket score: Australia 162/3 | Overs 29 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 61(70), Glenn Maxwell 11(15): It is time for the BIG SHOW! Maxwell is out in the middle and has already scored a boundary. Indian will be hoping Jadeja removes him early so that their lower order can be exposed. Ishant has been brought into the attack, with Dhoni hinting he is going for the kill now. India have no options but to take wickets to win this one or at least stay in the contest.

Live cricket score: Australia 151/3 | Overs 27 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 61(68), Glenn Maxwell 1(5): GONE!!! Smart piece of bowling by Jadeja and lightning-fast work behind the stumps by Dhoni sees the back of Bailey. Just when the partnership was getting threatening for India, Jadeja, by far the best bowler for India in this match, produced a peach of a delivery to get rid of Bailey, who goes for 23. This brings the dangerous Glenn Maxwell at the crease.

OUT! George Bailey st Dhoni b Jadeja 23(21)

Live cricket score: Australia 150/2 | Overs 26 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 61(68), George Bailey 23(20): No success for India in last two overs either. Bailey and Marsh steering the ship ahead. Bailey has been in the form of his life, scoring heavily against his favourite opposition. Indian bowlers not bowling wicket taking deliveries at all. All they are offering are easy scoring balls.

Live cricket score: Australia 142/2 | Overs 24 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 57(62), George Bailey 19(14):Inconsistency is hurting India here. Jadeja is bowling well here, but lacking support from the other end. Rishi Dhawan is bowling easy scoring-balls and looking innocuous with the pace he has. India are fast losing grip on the match and only wickets can save them here.

Live cricket score: Australia 131/2 | Overs 22 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 52(55), George Bailey 13(9): Australians are undeterred even after their skipper’s dismissal. Both Marsh, who has completed his half-century, and George Bailey continue to bat in the same attacking fashion. Indian bowlers are struggling to be consistent and some bad fielding is not helping their cause either.

Live cricket score: Australia 113/2 | Overs 19 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 46(45), George Bailey 1(1): OUT!!! Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack and gets the big fish Smith straightaway. Gives one bad ball in the over which goes for a boundary, but quickly produces a wicket-taking ball to remove the Australian captain, who finds an outside edge only to land in Rahane’s safe hands in the slip.

OUT! Steven Smith c Rahane b Jadeja 41(45)

Live cricket score: Australia 108/1 | Overs 18 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 43(43), Steven Smith 40(42): Australia add eight more runs in last two overs as the match is quickly going Australia’s way. Both Marsh and Smith are dominating the play at the moment. They have absolutely no trouble in the middle and are scoring runs at will. Dhoni needs to think out-of-the-box here and come up with something special.

This tweet tells the story so far…

Live cricket score: Australia 100/1 | Overs 16 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 40(39), Steven Smith 35(34): Gurkeerat gives another boundary off his over. Both Gurkeerat and Rishi bowling decently, but I’m afraid if they do not succeed here, their skipper will not be pleased.

Live cricket score: Australia 95/1 | Overs 15 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 40(38), Steven Smith 30(29): The two debutants are bowling in tandem now. Dhoni has introduced spin and surprisingly it is not Ravindra Jadeja, but Gurkeerat Singh, who will have a bowl. The couple of bowlers that he has sent down so far have been innocuous, with an odd boundary-ball in between the easy singles. Rishi is bowling much better, but as I wrote before, he needs to get wickets and not just contain the Aussie duo.

Live cricket score: Australia 83/1 | Overs 13 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 35(36), Steven Smith 23(19): Australia have added another 14 runs in the last two overs bowled by Umesh and Rishi Dhawan. The only way India can stay in this match is by picking up wickets at regular intervals, which is not happening so far. Rishi has bowled two boundary-less overs, but India need wickets from the youngster.

Live cricket score: Australia 69/1 | Overs 11 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 29(29), Steven Smith 15(14): Time for the debutant now! Himachal boy Rishi Dhawan is introduced into the attack for the first time. Huge moment for the young guy playing at the massive venue. He comes across as a smart bowler in his first over with variations up-his-sleeves. Not a quick bowler, he makes smart variations and makes-up for the lack of pace. Four runs come off the 11th over.

Live cricket score: Australia 65/1 | Overs 10 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 25(23), Steven Smith 15(14): Another boundary comes from Umesh’s over. Indian bowlers bowling far more boundary-balls here and this could prove fatal. Australian batsmen feeling no pressure at all from either end. They are simply defending the good balls and thrashing the loose ones, which unfortunately, are far too many at the moment.

Live cricket score: Australia 60/1 | Overs 9 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 25(21), Steven Smith 11(10): Ishant not learning from his mistakes here. He bowls three dot deliveries and then produces two consecutive boundary-balls. Smith has no early nerves here and has already hit two fours now. Marsh patiently waiting for his turn on the other end.

Live cricket score: Australia 52/1 | Overs 8 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 25(21), Steven Smith 3(4): AND WICKET IT IS!!! Dhoni pulls a rabbit out of the hat by bringing back Umesh, who strikes off the very first ball. He makes Finch edge one down to Dhoni’s safe hands and gives India the much needed breakthrough. Gurkeerat must be a relieved man now! But Dhoni will not be, for he knows this brings his counterpart and the danger-man Steven Smith out in the middle.

OUT! Aaron Finch c Dhoni b Umesh 21(23)

Live cricket score: Australia 48/0 | Overs 7 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 25(20), Aaron Finch 21(22): And the trend continues, good deliveries upfront followed by a boundary-ball. This is certainly not helping India’s cause. The experienced Ishant, who is expected to lead the attack, too doing the same what Umesh and Sran have been doing. Australia have raced to 48/0 in no time. India need WICKETS!!

Live cricket score: Australia 42/0 | Overs 6 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh 20(19), Aaron Finch 20(17): Sran gives away 11 easy runs in his over with a couple of poor deliveries being hit for fours by Finch. He does try to make up for it by coming round-the-wicket and creating an opportunity, only to be put down at mid-off by his Punjab team-mate Gurkeerat Singh. India rue the missed opportunity, and move on.

Live cricket score: Australia 31/0 | Overs 5 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh  17(16), Aaron Finch 12(14): Dhoni comes up with the first bowling change a bit too early in the game. Ishant Sharma replaces Umesh and gives five runs from his first over. He is expected to d0 well here, given the conditions have been favourable for hit-the-deck-hard kind of bowlers. India need wickets here, and multiple ones, to peg Australia back.

Live cricket score: Australia 26/0 | Overs 4 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh  14(15), Aaron Finch 11(9): Another boundary over! Australian openers are getting fours in every over with effortless ease. Once again Sran bowls good five deliveries and follows them up with a boundary-ball to end the over. Australia are scoring over six runs per over at the moment.

Live cricket score: Australia 19/0 | Overs 3 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh  10(13), Aaron Finch 8(5): Umesh continues to be good on one occasion and erratic on the other. Eight runs come from his over, as Finch-Marsh take quick three runs and then Marsh follows-it-up with a beautiful shot for a boundary. Australia are off to a good start.

Live cricket score: Australia 11/0 | Overs 2 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh  5(8), Aaron Finch 5(4): Barinder Sran shares the new ball with Umesh. On the very first ball, a thick edge off Finch’s blade flies towards the third man for a single. The fifth ball he bowls is wide and fullish, which Finch gleefully accepts and sends through the covers for a boundary.

Live cricket score: Australia 4/0 | Over 1 | India 295/6 | BATTING: Shaun Marsh  4(6), Aaron Finch 0(0)Australia have started their reply. Umesh Yadav, and not Barinder Sran, opened the attack for India. After bowling a couple of good balls, he offered width on the fifth ball of the  over and got hit for a four.

Australian openers Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh take a stroll towards the pitch. The last time they came together they added 145 runs, not to mention, only in the previous match. Surprisingly, Umesh Yadav, and not Barinder Sran, to open the attack for India.

India have yet again produced an impressive display with the bat by reaching to a score near 300. Once again, the onus will be on the bowlers who have not joined the party in this series as yet. Virat Kohli’s majestic ton, Shikhar Dhawan’s scratchy, while Ajinkya Rahane’s fluent fifty and skipper MS Dhoni’s quick-fire 23 in the end have helped India post 295. The total, not particularly threatening, seems decent enough to defend. We will be back shortly with the coverage of Australia’s reply. Meanwhile, read Rishad DSouza’s innings report here.

Live cricket score: India 295/6 | Overs 50 | BATTING: Ravindra Jadeja 6(5), Rishi Dhawan 3(5): India manage to score 18 runs from the last two overs. Skipper MS Dhoni’s blazing cameo of 9-ball 23 takes the team near 300. He hit a back-to-back four and a six off Hastings’ bowling in the penultimate over of the innings before perishing. Ravindra Jadeja and Rishi Dhawan take the final total to 295. Australia will now come out in a while hoping to chase down third successive Indian total in the series. While India will hope that the young-legs get them past the finishing line this time around.

OUT! MS Dhoni c Maxwell b Hastings 23(9)

Live cricket score: India 277/5 | Overs 48 | BATTING: MS Dhoni 13(5), Ravindra Jadeja 3(2): OUT!! Young Gurkeerat departs after hitting a fine boundary. He fails to read a back-of-the hand slower one by Faulkner and drags it onto his stumps. Ravindra Jadeja comes in and scores three quick runs of the two balls he faces.

OUT! Gurkeerat Singh b Faulkner 8(7)

Live cricket score: India 268/4 | Overs 47 | BATTING: MS Dhoni 12(4), Gurkeerat Singh 3(4): OUT!!! End of a magnificent knock by Virat Kohli. He scores run-a-ball 117 and goes trying to clear the boundary of Hastings’ delivery. He personally would be disappointed not to go on till the end. The crowd  is not though, gives him a standing ovation! Time for young Gurkeerat now, who’s on his debut.

OUT! Virat Kohli c Bailey b Hastings 117(117)

Live cricket score: India 265/3 | Overs 46 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 115(113), MS Dhoni 12(4): MASSIVE OVER THIS!!! Dhoni welcomes Faulkner back into the attack with a flat six over mid-wicket and a boundary. 16 runs come of the over as Kohli retains the strike. Suddenly, the crowd goes from ‘Kohli, Kohli’ to ‘Dhoni, Dhoni…’!!!

Live cricket score: India 249/3 | Overs 45 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 115(113), MS Dhoni 0(0): OUT!!! Rahane gets to his fifty and departs on the very next ball. He hits hard in the air trying to get past the boundary line, but finds Smith near the rope, who smartly holds on to it and passes on to Maxwell sensing the loss in control. Skipper MS Dhoni walks in to a thunderous applause and Kohli manages to hit a four in the over.

OUT! Ajinkya Rahane c Maxwell b Hastings 50(55)

Live cricket score: India 241/2 | Overs 44 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 109(109), Ajinkya Rahane 48(53):  SIX!!! Five runs of the first five balls and then comes a Kohli special! Hits a huge six off the last ball of Boland’s over. Time to hit the top-gear now! India need more meaty blows.

Live cricket score: India 220/2 | Overs 42 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 95(103), Ajinkya Rahane 45(47): 13 runs of last two overs, including a boundary by Rahane. Kohli is nearing his hundred and the stadium is erupting with every ball he faces. Meanwhile, here’s an interesting stat: Whenever Shikhar Dhawan scores a fifty outside Asia, India win! Also on last few occasions, when Rohit Sharma has got a ton, India have lost. So, are these good omen?

Live cricket score: India 207/2 | Overs 40 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 90(98), Ajinkya Rahane 37(40): SIX!!! Rahane hits a brilliant six straight down the ground over Boland’s head. 11 runs come from the over, at least one of each ball. Kohli enters into 90s now as the crowd starts chanting, “Kohli, Kohli…”

Live cricket score: India 196/2 | Overs 39 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 87(95), Ajinkya Rahane 29(37): Three runs come off Richardson’s comeback over. He manages to keep things quiet at a stage when the Indians are changing gears. The crowd, sensing Kohli is near his hundred, is right behind him now.

Live cricket score: India 193/2 | Overs 38 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 85(91), Ajinkya Rahane 28(35): Nine runs of last two overs, including a boundary by Rahane off his Rajasthan Royals team-mate Faulkner’s bowling. Kohli is now moving towards his hundred, while Rahane is doing what he does best — scoring runs at a brisk rate without really taking any risk. The partnership is well over 50 now. A perfect platform being set-up here for the power hitters to come and slog India well past 300.

Live cricket score: India 184/2 | Overs 36 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 84(90), Ajinkya Rahane 20(24): A banter between Kohli and Faulkner in the 35th over pumps-up the Indian vice-captain, who welcomes Scott Boland back into the attack with a massive six over the long-on. This also happens to be the first six of the innings. 12 runs come from the over and this seems to be the turning point now. Will the Indians change gears from here on and reach somewhere around 300? Time will tell, but for now, it’s time for drinks.

Live cricket score: India 171/2 | Overs 34 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 72(80), Ajinkya Rahane 19(22): Another boundary for Kohli, as he hits a Faulkner delivery between covers and mid-off. In the very next over, Rahane hits an exquisite inside-out shot for a boundary over the covers of a Maxwell delivery. Both are looking extremely comfortable in the middle and Kohli is moving towards his hundred.

Live cricket score: India 158/2 | Overs 32 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 65(75), Ajinkya Rahane 13(15): Rahane hits his first boundary off Hastings’ over, which is innings’ 31st. A well-timed shot from the Mumbai batsman races to the boundary as Australian skipper Steven Smith fails to stop it and remains a spectator to the shot. India score seven runs of the over and another four from the 32nd over bowled by Maxwell.

Live cricket score: India 147/2 | Overs 30 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 62(70), Ajinkya Rahane 5(8): Eight runs come from the last two overs bowled by Maxwell and Hastings. Kohli and Rahane looking to rebuild now. India need a special knock from these two, with only skipper MS Dhoni left now from the experienced lot. Gurkeerat, Rishi are now while Jadeja can be shaky given the lack of outing in the middle.

Live cricket score: India 139/2 | Overs 28 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 57(63), Ajinkya Rahane 2(3): Kohli has a new partner now. His hundred-run stand with Dhawan was third consecutive one for the second wicket in the series, When they should have gone on, Dhawan departed. It is time for Rahane to replicate his last match effort, and also for Kohli to get his first century of the series.

Live cricket score: India 134/2 | Overs 27 | BATTING: Virat Kohli 55(59), Ajinkya Rahane 0(1) GONE!!! Shikhar Dhawan throws the start away! Just when Dhawan was looking set to reach to his hundred, he shuffles across and tries to flick one Hastings delivery to the leg side, only to find the furniture disturbed. He had played an uncomfortable shot for a boundary the ball before. His 91-ball 68 still not good enough to convince his return to the form. Well, that brings one of last match’s bright spots for India Ajinkya Rahane to the middle. All eyes on Kohli now.

OUT! Shikhar Dhawan b Hastings 68(91)

Live cricket score: India 119/1 | Overs 25 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 50(76), Virat Kohli 50(51): Richardson returns into the attack and bowls a tight over conceding just three runs off it. Five runs, including a boundary, come off the 25th over bowled by Maxwell. It also sees the 1oo-run stand between Dhawan and Kohli. Both looking solid now and set for big hundreds. The key will be to stay till the end.

Live cricket score: India 111/1 | Overs 23 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 50(76), Virat Kohli 50(51)Important over this for India as both Kohli and Dhawan bring in their half-centuries. Kohli has been flawless, playing almost a run-a-ball innings. This his third consecutive fifty in the series. He will hope to get to the three-figure mark today. Dhawan on the other hand has struggled a bit, but managed to reach to the milestone. This is a good redemption chance for him. India end the over on Nelson’s score.

Live cricket score: India 102/1 | Overs 22 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 42(71), Virat Kohli 41(44)India’s hundred comes up in the 22nd over as eight runs come off it. Kohli looks to be in a roaring form! Gets another boundary from the over. The momentum shifting towards India now!

Live cricket score: India 94/1 | Overs 21 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 42(71), Virat Kohli 41(44)FOURS!!! A couple of boundaries come off Mitchell Marsh’s second over. First Kohli sends a short ball outside off stump towards the fence and then Dhawan comes down the track to send one for a four over mid-wicket.

Live cricket score: India 85/1 | Overs 20 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 38(67), Virat Kohli 36(42)Mitchell Marsh gets introduced into the attack for the first time in the 19th over and bowls four short balls in the over. It seems he has come up with a strategy to test the Indian batsmen. Dhawan is still struggling and has played a huge amount of dot balls. Three runs come from his over and five off the 20th over bowled by Boland. Dhawan needs to cut loose, or else he might end up creating huge pressure on Kohli.

Live cricket score: India 77/1 | Overs 18 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 36(61), Virat Kohli 30(36)Maxwell quickly gets done with his third over, which sees four runs being scored. Boland bowls the 18th over and keeps things tight till Dhawan pulls a rising delivery to the leg side for a four. India reach to 77 runs in 18 overs and Umpire announces a drink break. Take a quick drink or munch on to something before we resume with the coverage shortly.

Live cricket score: India 67/1 | Overs 16 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 30(52), Virat Kohli 27(33): Nine runs come off the last two overs bowled by Maxwell and Faulkner. Dhawan-Kohli also bring in their 50-run partnership in the meantime. It is important that at least one of them goes on to stay till the end and gets a big hundred, just the way Rohit did in the last two games. Anything less than 280 would not be enough to win, provided Indian bowlers show-up today.

Live cricket score: India 67/1 | Overs 16 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 30(52), Virat Kohli 27(33)Nine runs come off the last two overs bowled by Maxwell and Faulkner. Dhawan-Kohli also bring in their 50-run partnership in the meantime. It is important that at least one of them goes on to stay till the end and gets a big hundred, just the way Rohit did in the last two games. Anything less than 280 would not be enough to win, provided Indian bowlers show-up today.

Live cricket score: India 58/1 | Overs 14 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 26(46), Virat Kohli 23(27): Faulkner continues and delivers a tight over. No run comes from the first four balls faced by Dhawan, who is being tested with short-pitch bowling. Two come from the over, Kohli retains strike.

Live cricket score: India 56/1 | Overs 13 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 25(41), Virat Kohli 22(26): Dhawan sends a Faulkner delivery over mid-wicket for a boundary in the 12th over. There is a rise in his confidence now. The 13th over sees the introduction of spin for the first time. Australia’s only spin option Glenn Maxwell comes into the attack and concedes five runs of the over.

Live cricket score: India 46/1 | Overs 11 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 16(33), Virat Kohli 21(22): Scott Boland now brought into the attack and just three runs come from his first over. Kohli looks set now, so does Dhawan. He has played a significant number of dot balls here, and really needs to convert this start into a big score. The team has been far more patient with him, it’s time he repays the faith!

Live cricket score: India 43/1 | Overs 10 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 14(30), Virat Kohli 20(19): ANOTHER FOUR!!! James Faulkner introduced into the attack and Kohli welcomes him with a boundary. With this, India’s Test skipper brings in his 7,000th ODI run, what a way to reach to the milestone! He’s also fastest to reach to the landmark.

Live cricket score: India 35/1 | Overs 9 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 12(28), Virat Kohli 14(15): FOUR!!! Kohli hits the first boundary of his innings, sends a fullish delivery by Richardson towards the boundary line on the leg side. He’s getting into the groove, which is a good news for India. He has been in a good nick of late and it is Dhawan who the Indian team would be keeping a close eye on.

Live cricket score: India 28/1 | Overs 8 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 12(26), Virat Kohli 7(11): A lot of dot balls coming in early on. Both Hastings and Richardson mixing the deliveries up quite nicely and testing the Indian batsmen with short-pitch stuff. Failure to rotate the strike has been a major reason for India’s failure to put an above par score in the first two ODIs. Both Kohli and Dhawan, who is taking his time to find the lost confidence back, will need to rotate strike on regular intervals.

Live cricket score: India 17/1 | Overs 6 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 8(20), Virat Kohli 2(5): Hastings getting some good bounce on this MCG track. Kohli is cautious at the moment, plays first four balls and gives strike back to Dhawan. Just one comes from the over.

Live cricket score: India 16/1 | Overs 5 | BATTING: Shikhar Dhawan 8(18), Virat Kohli 1(1): GONE!!! Centurion of the last two lost games, Rohit Sharma departs early this time. Richardson bowled one outside the off-stump to which Rohit unfortunately found an edge, only to be caught by Matthew Wade behind the stumps. Huge loss this upfront for India. Virat Kohli now walks in to a huge applause.

OUT! Rohit Sharma c Wade b Richardson 6(11)

Live cricket score: India 15/0 | Overs 4 | BATTING: Rohit Sharma 6(8),  Shikhar Dhawan 8(16): Hastings pitches one to Dhawan on the middle, which the southpaw hits over square for a boundary. This is second boundary for the struggling Dhawan. Will the second hometown prove lucky for the lucky boy? Yes, when not playing, Dhawan resides in Melbourne with his wife Ayesha and kids.

Live cricket score: India 10/0 | Overs 3| BATTING: Rohit Sharma 5(7),  Shikhar Dhawan 4(11): Richardson’s second over just concedes a single. Rohit plays the first two deliveries and gives strike to Dhawan, who looks tentative early on. Plays the other four deliveries and scores a single.

Live cricket score: India 9/0 | Overs 2 | BATTING: Rohit Sharma 4(5),  Shikhar Dhawan 4(7): John Hastings to share the new ball. No major action on first five deliveries but Dhawan opens his account in style of the last ball by hitting it straight down-the-ground for a boundary.

Live cricket score: India 3/0 | Over 1 | BATTING: Rohit Sharma 3(4),  Shikhar Dhawan 0(2): Rohit blocks the first two balls bowled by Kane Richardson and hits the third one high in the air over mid-wicket for a couple. Three come from the over. Dhawan yet to open his account.

Kane Richardson to open the attack, Rohit Sharma & Shikhar Dhawan walk-in.

Finally MS Dhoni has made changes and brought-in two newcomers for the all-important match. Ashwin and Pandey miss out, the latter being unfortunate. This could well be the last chance for Shikhar Dhawan. Live-coverage to begin in a couple of minutes from now.

Playing XI:

India: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli,  Ajinkya Rahane, Gurkeerat Singh, MS Dhoni (c) (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Rishi Dhawan, , Umesh Yadav, Barinder Sran, Ishant Sharma.

Australia: Shaun Marsh, Aaron Finch, Steven Smith (c), George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade (wk), James Faulkner, John Hastings, Scott Boland, Kane Richardson.

TOSS UPDATE: Smith wins toss, asks India to bat. Rishi Dhawan and Gurkeerat Singh to make their debuts, while Ashwin and Manish Pandey sit out in this must-win match.

India have made two changes to their playing XI, with Ravichandran Ashwin and Manish Pandey making way for the debutants Rishi Dhawan and Gurkeerat Singh. This strengthens the weak Indian bowling and also adds freshness and zing to the team. Australia on the other hand have made just a solitary change, with Mitchell Marsh replacing Joel Paris. This means both the Marsh brothers are playing today. India will be batting first for the third straight time in the series. They have done reasonably well batting first, but the hosts have been better at chasing. This sets-up another exciting clash.
