Hello and welcome to live cricket updates of Day One of the second Test between India and Australia at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. After pulling off a stunning 333-run win in the series opener, Australia will be brimming with confidence and will look to bag another triumph to stay ahead in the series. India, on the other hand, will look to avenge the loss and level series 1-1 in this four-match Test series. I am Devarchit Varma, and I will be bringing you all the live updates, funny tweets, statistics, among others from this Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2016-17. Live cricket scorecard: India vs Australia, Day 1, 2nd Test
Australia have a norm of announcing their playing XI a day before the match. And now that they started off on a winning note, they will play the same team for this encounter as well. Meanwhile, Kohli, in his Test captaincy career, has never played the same starting XI. He is a leader who believes in horses for course. If the track has turn, he goes for three spinners. If it has bounce and moisture, he does not shy away from opting for a five-bowler strategy. However, the 1-0 deficit puts him in a spot of bother. One more defeat, and the dream of yet another series win will be squashed. In fact, he has never lost a Test series since he became a full-time captain. Hence, will Kohli fashion a different playing XI? If yes, who will replace whom?
In other news, Hardik Pandya suffered a shoulder niggle during the practice session and has been ruled out of the second Test. For a faster recovery, he has been released from the squad. IND vs AUS, 2nd Test: Kohli’s wounded men seek vengeance to level series
Head coach Anil Kumble, in the press conference, said that there are no questions over Ajinkya Rahane’s inclusion in the squad despite his struggle against spin at Pune, and that he has been a remarkable player for India for the past few years. Hence, the question beckons: when will triple-centurion Karun Nair get another nod? Come to think of it, even if he plays, where will he bat?
Given India will undoubtedly go for the spin as well as all-rounder troika of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jayant Yadav, India will have to shuffle their batting line-up, pushing No. 6 batsman further down to make way for Nair. In fact, that will only strengthen the Indian batting, which was demolished by Steve O’Keefe’s twin six-wicket haul. However, if they go for Nair, Ishant Sharma is likely to be benched, for Umesh Yadav troubled the visitors with his vicious reverse-swing, taking 5 wickets, that is, as many as Jadeja did on a dry wicket. Hardik Pandya picks up shoulder niggle; ruled out of 2nd Test against Australia
For Australia to win, they will have to emulate what they did in Pune.
