Live Updates

  • 9:37 PM IST

Bhuvneshwar finishes with 6.1-2-9-3. Here’s Kaustubh Mayekar’s match report. Virat Kohli, for his 92, has won the Man of the Match.

  • 9:33 PM IST

Yes, Bhuvi gets Richardson trapped leg-before. Australia review the decision. It’s three reds. Bhuvi bags his 3rd. India win by 50 runs, lead series 2-0. Poor Stoinis.

  • 9:32 PM IST

A low full-toss from Bumrah and Stoinis deposits him behind the deep square-leg. What a hit! This has been a quality knock. You got to feel for him. Bumrah denies Stoinis a single of the last ball. Will India seal it this over. Bhuvi into the attack.

  • 9:24 PM IST

My editor Abhishek Mukherjee writes, “Stoinis has been there, done that, at a ground called Eden.” Yes, Eden Park!

  • 9:23 PM IST

Stoinis moves to 49, and Chahal almost takes his third. Richardson is just managing to survive. Chahal finishes with 10-1-34-2. Terrific bowling.

  • 9:17 PM IST

Coulter-Nile departs. Pandya takes another. India a wicket away from win. Goes for the pull, gets a leading edge and Pandya takes a simple catch. Richardson survives 2 balls. Just manages. One almost to Chahal at short-cover and then an edge just falling short of Kohli.

    OUT! Nathan Coulter-Nile c & b Hardik Pandya 8 (20)
  • 9:09 PM IST

A run-out chance? Kohli hits the stumps. Rather it’s another Dhoni-brilliance. Is Coulter-Nile gone?

  • 9:08 PM IST

Two from the Pandya-over. Australia need 79 from 12 overs, the concern is the wicket column. They have only 2 remaining.

  • 9:04 PM IST

Stoinis gets 2 boundaries. Good positive batting. Kuldeep almost got his fourth in form of Coulter-Nile. His KKR teammate has no clue. Kuldeep has finished his spell — 10-1-54-3. Wonderful bowling, and he etches his name in history at this iconic venue. A proud moment for this Knight from Kolkata.

  • 9:00 PM IST

Jadeja almost took a blinder at deep midwicket. India should just have an excuse to keep him on the field. He is a livewire, perhaps the best all-round fielder. Five from the Bumrah over.

  • 8:57 PM IST

Stoinis knows a thing or 2 about playing lone hands. His 146 not out came in his 2nd ODI earlier this year. It was at Auckland. Australia were 67 for 6, and he almost chased down 287. Australia need to believe. Stoinis needs to believe in himself.

  • 8:54 PM IST

Kuldeep has become the third Indian, and first Indian spinner to bag an ODI hat-trick. The first two being Chetan Sharma, followed by Kapil Dev. Chahal goes for only 3 from the next over.

  • 8:42 PM IST

Wade’s terrible time with bat continues. As I predicted, Wade vs Kuldeep will be fun. Looking to cut, Wade has it on to the stumps. Australia in a spot of serious bother. Agar can bat though. I just jinxed him. Agar departs first ball. He is trapped plumb.

OUT! Matthew Wade b Kuldeep Yadav 2 (8)
OUT! Ashton Agar lbw Kuldeep Yadav 0 (1)
  • 8:37 PM IST

Wade never minds chirping a bit. But his bat will have to do more talking today if Australia have to win this. He has been under severe criticism but has received Smith’s backing. It might be his day today. He took a spectacular catch and effected 2 run-outs as well. The required run-rate has crossed six.

  • 8:27 PM IST

A thick outside edge. No slip and FOUR! And Pandya gets Smith again. A bouncer from Pandya on middle and leg, Smith goes for the pull and finds the substitute fielder Ravindra Jadeja.

OUT! Steven Smith c (sub) Ravindra Jadeja b Hardik Pandya 59 (76)
  • 8:17 PM IST

A boundary from Stoinis. Kuldeep is leaking runs. The last ball, Stoinis didn’t read. Chahal has been brought back into the attack. How about Kedar Jadhav? Chahal gives away only a run.

  • 8:13 PM IST

Again, the same pattern follow. 0 0 0 0 0 and FOUR. Smith slips it off his legs to the fine-leg region.

  • 8:08 PM IST

Fifty for Steven Smith on his 100th ODI. Indeed, he holds the key if Australia have to seal a win here. And it’s the first fifty for Australia in this series.

  • 8:05 PM IST

No Hardik. Boy, you can’t bowl there. A leg-stump gift to Stoinis who just gets the bat on time to get a free boundary in the square-leg region. Only 4 from the over. Ends with a beauty that beats Stoinis’ outside edge. Not a bad over expect that ball. Half-way mark. Australia need 133 from 150 balls.

  • 8:03 PM IST

10 from the Kuldeep-over. He continues being expensive. Pandya has been brought into the attack. A couple of overs for Jadhav, any one? I have this feeling that he will get Smith 🙂

  • 7:57 PM IST

Chahal is into his sixth over. He bowls a looped up flighted ball to Maxwell outside off-stump, hoping the batsman will go for a full swing. Maxwell doesn’t. And Maxwell eventually falls to Chahal’s guile and there’s no escaping Dhoni’s gloves.Outstanding from Chahal. This dismissal was well plotted. He flights it on leg and middle, Maxwell steps out, it deflects his pad and Dhoni is pumped up after that stumping. And almost has Stoinis out the first ball. Whew Maxwell. Where is common sense? Credit to Bumrah also for the at 1-run over.

OUT! Glenn Maxwell st MS Dhoni b Yuzvendra Chahal 14 (18)

  • 7:51 PM IST

Bumrah brought into the attack and the angle is already creating a problem for Maxwell. He finally escapes with a single off an inside edge. Indians may surely have some plans in place for Maxwell. He needs to be smarter with his approach here.

  • 7:43 PM IST

What hit! Maxwell targets Kuldeep, again. This time over midwicket for a six. Goes for another one and this time clears deep square-leg. These are Maxwell’s first 2 scoring shots after 2 dots. He needs to bat around Smith. He targets another and almost loses his wicket. Kuldeep won’t mind.

  • 7:34 PM IST

In-swing, out-swing, Chinaman, leg-break… Whew. At last a full-toss claims Head. He runs out of luck. Head plays the full-toss straight to Manish Pandey at midwicket. And Smith now is being troubled by Kuldeep. He doesn’t read the orthodox.

OUT! Travis Head c Manish Pandey b Yuzvendra Chahal 39 (39)
  • 7:24 PM IST

Australia have raced to 76 for 2 after 15 overs. The game has slightly tilted in Australia’s favour at the moment. Rohit’s dropped catch of Head proved very costly. Kuldeep is into the attack.

  • 7:15 PM IST

Spin for the first time today. Chahal starts with a 3-run over. India too were 64 after 13 overs.

  • 7:09 PM IST

Smith is beginning to look good. Two boundaries already off Pandya, who dismissed him in the last game. Pandya gets one to move in, beats Smith’s bat and it’s leg-byes four. Runs coming good for Australia.

  • 7:00 PM IST

Pandya introduced into the attack. Australia will go after him. 7 from the over. Head gets a boundary and follows with a 3.

  • 6:49 PM IST

Finally some runs off Bhuvi. Beautiful roll of wrists there from Head as the ball travels to square-leg boundary. And next ball, Rohit drops a simple chance at the first slip. Bhuvi is denied of the third wicket. Smith now plays 2 gorgeous strokes for boundaries. One through midwicket and another cut past point. Smith ends the over with another boundary. It’s four-byes, rather.

  • 6:41 PM IST

Head is off the mark with a lucky boundary. A thick inside edge fetches him four. Tough luck, Bumrah. He follows it with a short and wide, Head frees his arms and it’s four. Another inside edge, gets Head 3.

Good afternoon!  Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of India vs Australia 2017. India and Australia are currently engaged in a fierce five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) series. Here, you will get the live updates and scores from the second India vs Australia ODI. The match will be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. India are leading the series 1-0 after winning the 1st ODI at Chennai by 26-run via DLS method. You can also catch all the BALL-BY-BALL commentary over on CricketCountry’s SCORECARD.

Sadly for cricket fans the news coming in from Kolkata is not so heartening with rains threaten to play spoilsport. India and Australia both were denied practice at Eden Gardens due to incessant rains; both opted for indoors.

Virat Kohli and his men will be high in confidence going in the match, while Steven Smith’s boys will want to make amends.

Australia does have a good record at Kolkata; winning all match they have played here. MS Dhoni will be playing his 300th ODI for India, while Smith will feature in his 100th ODI for Australia.

India will bank on Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal to once again rattle the visitors bleak looking batting unit.

Smith ahead of tie said that Australia will need to win the next 2 matches if they want any chance of taking this series away from India.
