India were reduced to 117 for six at tea on the fourth day of the first Test against Australia in their chase of 292 to win. India need a further 175 runs to win with more than a day’s play remaining.

Resuming their innings at 24 for one after lunch, India lost Gautam Gambhir at the score of 13 caught by Ricky Ponting off Peter Siddle. Six overs later, right-arm pacer James Pattinson jolted India when he bowled Rahul Dravid for 10.

Pattinson added more to India’s woes when he had VVS Laxman caught at square leg for one, and Ben Hilfenhaus getting rid of Virat Kohli for a duck off the very first ball.

Sachin Tendulkar, who looked positive throughout his stay hitting four boundaries for his 32 off 46 balls, was caught at the gully by Michael Hussey off Peter Siddle.

Skipper Dhoni and Ashwin put up an unbeaten 36-run for the seventh wicket after India were reduced to 81 for six.
