India failed to grab a single wicket in the second session despite removing Australian top order in the first session as the hosts added 116 runs in the second session to reach 214 runs for loss of three wickets at tea.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting along with incumbent captain Michael Clarke consolidated innings.

Ponting who scored his 61st half-century is unbeaten on 91 runs at the close of second session while skipper Clarke is unbeaten on 71 runs at the end of session 2.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss, Australia lost early wickets as off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin scalped two wickets while Zaheer Khan dismissed the dangerous David Warner for eight runs.
