Michael Hussey slammed a century as Australia raced to 583 at lunch at the SCG on day three of the second Test on Thursday. Australia extended their lead to 392 runs over India.

Resuming on the overnight score of 482 for four, Australia scored 101 runs on the third morning to virtually close doors on India.

Hussey, who coming into this Test was struggling for form, made the most of the demoralised Indian bowling to score a ton.

Skipper Michael Clarke ably supported the south paw with a classic display of stroke play to inch closer to 300 run mark.

India bowlers continued to struggle falling to make bag a single wicket on the first session.

Zaheer Khan opened the bowling with the new ball but failed to trouble the Australian batsmen who sent the India fielders on the leather hunt.

At lunch, Hussey was unbeaten on 111, while Clarke was batting on 293.

Brief Scores: India 191 (MS Dhoni 57*, Sachin Tendulkar 41, Virender Sehwag 30; James Pattinson 4 for 43, Peter Siddle 3 for 55) trail Australia 583 for 4 (Michael Clarke 293*, Ricky Ponting 134, Michael Hussey 111*; Zaheer Khan 3 for 122, Ishant Sharma 1 for 119) by 392 runs
