India reached 243 for three against Australia at lunch, on the fourth day of the second Test at the SCG on Friday.

Sachin Tendulkar is batting on 70 while VVS Laxman remained undefeated on 44. The only batsman out was Gautam Gambhir who scored 83.

Resuming on the overnight score of 114 for two, India added

Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar stitched a partnership of 68 for the third wicket before the former departed.

The south paw fell 17 short of what would have been a well deserved century, when he was caught by David Warner off the bowling of Peter Siddle.

Gambhir s exit brought VVS Laxman in the middle as he immediately joined forces with Tendulkar to stabilise India. The duo added 75 runs for the fifth wicket.

Tendulkar drove and cut with finesse as he looked set for his 100 Test ton easing past his half-century in the morning session.

Brief Scores: India 191 & 243 for 3(Gautam Gambhir 83, Sachin Tendulkar 70*, VVS Laxman 44*; Ben Hilfenhaus 2 for 65, Peter Siddle 1 for 41) trail Australia 659 for 4 (Michael Clarke 329*, Michael Hussey 150*, Ricky Ponting 134; Zaheer Khan 3 for 122, Ishant Sharma 1 for 144) by 225 runs
