India made a disastrous start on the opening day of the second Test, losing four wickets for 72 at lunch at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

India, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, made a disastrous start in the very first over when opener Gautam Gambhir fell to Pattinson on the third ball of the day, for a duck.

Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag tried to stabilise the Indian innings with their 30-run stand for the second wicket, but their resistance was ended by Peter Siddle, who had Dravid caught by Ed Cowan at forward short leg for five.

Sehwag then teamed up with Sachin Tendulkar to bail India out of trouble. The Little Master looked fluent right from the word go as the two added a further 25 runs for the third wicket.

Pattinson once again jolted India, bagging the key wicket of Sehwag, who scored 30 off 51 balls with the help of four boundaries. India soon stumbled to 59 for four, when VVS Laxman fell to Pattinson for two.

Brief Scores: India 72 for 4 (Virender Sehwag 30, Sachin Tendulkar 21*; James Pattinson 3 for 25, Peter Siddle 1 for 28) vs Australia.
