India were 351 for eight in their second innings at tea on the fourth day of the second Test against Australia on Friday.

Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman departed in quick succession as India inched closer to an innings defeat.

The duo shared a 103 run partnership for the fourth wicket as they negotiated the Australian pace attack.

Tendulkar showed lot of character during the opening session getting in his stride straightaway hitting series of fours off Ben Hilfenhaus, all square of the wicket on the off-side.

The 38-year-old looked set to achieve the record only to be caught in the slips off the bowling of Michael Clarke for 80. The little master smashed nine boundaries in his 141-ball innings.

Laxman departed immediately after Tendulkar s exit when Ben Hifenhaus had his caught by Brad Haddin.

Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni too failed to build a substantial innings as the Australian s tightened the noose.

Zaheer Khan and Ravichandran Ashwin tried to delay the Australian victory as they stitched a partnership of 56 runs for the eight wicket.

Ashwin was unbeaten on 27, while Ishant Sharma was batting on 1 when tea was called.
