Problems galore for Bangladesh as their spin attack failed miserably on a track that did offer a little bit of turn. They did not create enough chances, and the one that came their way was spilled by Shuvagata Hom. Since then it has been India’s game with Shikhar Dhawan smashing his 3rd Test ton and Murali Vijay being 11 runs away from his sixth.

The umpires consulted the batsmen and they decided to walk off. An excellent day for India.

TOSS: India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field against Bangladesh in their one-off Test at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah on Wednesday.

As expected India are going in with five bowlers, i.e. three seamers and two spinners. This means, Harbhajan Singh is playing, but the news that will surely not cheer you up is that Cheteshwar Pujara has been kept out.

TEAMS:

India: Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron.

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haq, Mushfiqur Rahim (c), Shakib-al-Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das (wk), Shuvagata Hom, Jubair Hossain, Taijul Islam, Mohammad Shahid.

The toss is just a couple of minutes away. Talking about the bilateral cricket between India and Bangladesh, they have played seven Tests in the history, starting in 2000-01. Bangladesh have never toured India.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the first day’s play of the first and only Test between Bangladesh and India in Fatullah on Thursday. This is Devarchit Varma, and I will be presenting to you the live updates from the day’s play.

India will enter the contest as favourites, given their ability to dominate even the best of sides in the subcontinent in the longest format. Bangladesh will aim to make it challenging for the visitors, so as to push for more Tests in the future.

The two sides last faced in the much talked-about ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 quarter-final clash, where India finally won comfortably. Speaking of form, neither team has tasted success in their previous Test-match outings. Bangladesh were thumped by Pakistan, while India were beaten 2-0 in a four-match series against Australia.

India will be led by Virat Kohli, while Bangladesh will be headed by Mushfiqur Rahim in the absence of Mashrafe Mortaza who is out with injury. Both are relatively new captains and will seek wins to boost their morales.

Squads:

India: Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Karn Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Varun Aaron

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim (c), Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das (wk), Soumya Sarkar, Shuvagata Hom, Taijul Islam, Jubair Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Nasir Hossain, Mohammad Shahid, Abul Hasan
