Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates post for the first Twenty20 International (T20I) between India and England. After winning back-to-back series, Virat Kohli will lead India for the series opener of the three-match T20I series at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. England, on the other end, will look to start the series on a positive note with a victory to step closer to a positive end. This is the first match wherein Kohli will captain the Indian cricket team in a T20I match and quite obviously, will seek a fruitful start to his new journey. The match will be even more special for the hosts as the match will be played on the 68th Republic Day of the country.

India have had a fantastic time at home with back to back fruitful series with New Zealand and England in Tests and ODIs. They not only excelled in the longest format bagging the top spot in the ICC rankings, they maintained the consistency walking into the limited-overs format as well, winning all the past four series. However, they will face an uphill task against the runners-up of the ICC World T20 2016 England, who have a formidable set of players across departments. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs England, 1st T20I at Kanpur

India’s trump card has to be the form of their skipper. Kohli has redefined consistency and with the newly handed captaincy, his confidence is strengthened. The good news for the team is the powerful comeback of their 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh. MS Dhoni, with the pressure of captaincy lifted off his shoulders, is playing freely which is another sign of positivity for the hosts.

India’s bowling, especially at the death,  has looked weaker compared to the heavy batting as they gave away too many runs in the ODI series. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Ashish Nehra will be the names who will be interesting to watch. The choice of spinner among Parvez Rasool, Amit Mishra and Yuzvendra Chahal will be interesting. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested for this T20I series.

Talking about England, the team will surely be a strong contender looking at their performance in ICC World T20 2016. Joe Root will be England’s bet against Virat Kohli while Tymal Mills is an interesting inclusion in the squad. He has surprised one and all with his performance in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Big Bash League (BBL) and will be interesting to watch if picked.
