Live score: India 317/4; Kohli 151, Ashwin 1– India lose Rahane at the stroke of Day 1. Edges one to the wicketkeeper. He had to survive for only 2 overs, and he failed to do so. Meanwhile, Kohli stays unbeaten on 151. Scores his mandatory hundred. Nothing new. Well, that’s it from us. See you tomorrow at 9.30. Till then, keep making bad jokes. Bye.

Live score: India 316/3; Kohli 151, Rahane 23 – 150 for Virat Kohli. No, you are not watching highlights. Believe me, he has actually reached 150 — his third 150-plus score this year. What on earth is with this guy? I have already told my Editor that I am not writing an article on Kohli anymore. I am simply not qualified enough.

Live score: India 309/3; Kohli 147, Rahane 21 – Stage is all set for Rahane to score hundred. But he has been reckless against spin. Looks uncomfortable at the crease. He, in fact, needs to take a leaf out of Kohli’s book. For that matter, everyone needs to take a leaf of Kohli’s book. Okay, this man distracts me. All the same, if Rahane fails to emulate his genius, his place might be in trouble.

If you are diagnosed with depression… if someone dumped you… if no one cares about you… if people consider your humour as PJs… if people don’t get your puns… if you have no purpose in life… if you have no reason to l̶i̶v̶e̶leave…

then tune into Hindi commentary, because:

    1. Laxman skips H. For example, he says kaaskar instead of khaaskar and many more.
    2. Gavaskar literally translates English to Hindi. For example, he said: “Body language ko hindi mein badan ki bhasha bolte hai.”
    3. Not sure if Aakash Chopra speaks Hindi or Sanskrit.
    4. Again, you are sad in life.

Live score: India 267/3; Kohli 123, Rahane 3 – Kohli looks solid for a big knock. As a matter of fact, he has already scored two double-tons this year. And might as well score another one. Okay, he has been exhausting my vocabulary. How can someone be so consistent? :/

  • 3:20 PM IST

Live score: India 248/3; Kohli 107, Rahane 0 – Jeez, Pujara misses his triple-century by 181 runs. Anderson gets his second scalp (no, not the one on his head). On a serious note (not the Samsung one), he played a gem of an innings — his third in three matches. He also reached 3,000 runs today. A day of threesomes…

  • 2:14 PM IST

Live score: India 210/2; Pujara 97, Kohli 91 – Dog’s intrusion forces umpires to take early tea. Not only did he interrupted the play but also pooped on the ground. Meanwhile, Cooks seems amused by the entertainment and Kohli unaffected.

  • 2:01 PM IST

Live score: India 204/2; Pujara 92, Kohli 90 – Kohli and Pujara race to reach the three-figure mark. Both are dealing boundaries. Who’ll reach the hundred first?

  • 1:40 PM IST

Live score: India 174/2; Pujara 78, Kohli 74 – No, wait! What?! Pujara hits the first six of the match. Kohli has a smile on his face. So does Pujara. Ansari drops it short, Pujara rocks back and pulls over mid-wicket.

Live score: India 133/2; Pujara 55, Kohli 57 – Moeen Ali comes into the attack, and there’s a loud shout right away… Umpire says Not Out. England take their first review. It’s the same old problem. Pujara and his weakness to tackle the deliveries that sharply jab back… Review shows the impact is outside off. Pujara survives. Where were you all this while, Moeen?

And Pujara scores yet another fifty as well. My colleague Shruti Hariharan saved my time and wrote a detailed report about it. Click here. Please.

  • 12:45 PM IST

Live score: India 112/2; Pujara 42, Kohli 50 – Another day, another Virat Kohli special! Scores his 13th fifty in his 50th Test. The other Indians to do so are Umrigar, Vishwanath, Laxman, Dev and Gavaskar. Kohli, for that matter, has formed the habit of joining the elite clubs.

  • 12:36 PM IST

  • 12:35 PM IST

Live score: India 108/2; Pujara 40, Kohli 48 – Anderson is persistently pitching the ball outside off. He is trying to set the batsman up. Might as well jab the ball in and feed on Pujara’s weakness.

  • 12:16 PM IST

Live score: India 97/2; Pujara 37, Kohli 40 – Kohli is off the mark with yet another boundary to James Anderson that went straight towards on-side. Yet another effortless boundary from the Indian skipper. Manjrekar feels the cheering from the crowd is because school kids had enough Lunch. Some thought process for it we can say.

  • 11:34 AM IST

Live score: India 92/2; Pujara 37, Kohli 35 – Kohli and Pujara hold fort for India and add 70 runs for the third wicket. Lunch time, it is! And it is safe to say that the match is equally poised, for India recovered well after losing quick wickets. While I have Aloo Matar for lunch, you find something to eat as well. Take a break! Stay away from cricket till noon. Go.

The five-Test series which began last week had its first contest ending in a thrilling draw at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, wherein both the teams had their batsmen flourishing on a flat deck but their bowlers struggled. England will feel they have the psychological advantage after they challenged Indian batsmen with mountains of runs and coming close to winning the Rajkot Test. It was India’s captain Virat Kohli who stood between England and their win on the final day, as he scored a brilliant 98-ball 49 not out in the second innings. Kohli, who entered this Test series with a poor record with the bat against England, will be pleased with his effort in both the innings. However, a big score will put all the questions to rest as far as Kohli is concerned.

The first Test was all about England, since they out-batted, out-bowled and out-fielded India. The hosts, who dropped as many as three catches inside the first six overs of the game, spilled a total of five catches. India remained poor in the field throughout the game as there were several misfielding as well, and the hosts will have to get their act together as England are not going to miss on any such freebees.

India will want Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara to bat in the same passion they did in the first innings of the opening Test. India’s top-order has been bolstered with the inclusion of KL Rahul, their preferred opener who was sidelined during the series against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury. But with the scores of 76 and 106 for Karnataka against Rajasthan, Rahul has not only proven fitness but has also shown tremendous form. India will also hope their vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane to get among the run-scorers.

On the other hand, England will feel their performance in the first Test was nothing less than a win. England outplayed India in all departments, and they remained ahead of the hosts as far as numbers are concerned. England spilled less catches, scored more runs, bowled tighter lines and fielded well. England proved to India in just about five days that if they have to win this series, the hosts will have to bring their ‘A’ game forward.

The first Test of this series may have had a green-top batting-friendly wicket, but if the initial reports are anything to go by, we can expect a rank turner which may provide a lot of assistance to the Indian bowlers. Indian spinners failed on the batting-friendly wicket at Rajkot, but their return to Visakhapatnam where pitches are generally conducive, should bring smiles back on their faces.
