This is New Zealand’s lowest total in ODIs versus India, and boy look at the way they have crumbled. Kane Williamson played a poor shot, and the rest crumbled without even putting up a fight. Sad end to an otherwise thrilling series. Good that New Zealand had to face this in their final match of the tour.

    PS: England, are you ready?

BIGGEST WIN FOR INDIA VS NEW ZEALAND IN ODIS! India hammer New Zealand by 190 runs, and now, this is their biggest win in terms of runs. Akshar takes the final wicket, New Zealand bowled out for 79 in just 23.1 overs.

  • 7:29 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 79/9 in 23 overs (TGT: 270) | Santner 4 (9), Boult 1 (5): Jayant continues. This has been a monumental failure for the Kiwis, who have had as many as 5 ducks so far in the game. Boult dances down and gets off the mark with a nice push to long on. It will be fitting if Mishra takes the final wicket, he has deserved it completely.

  • 7:24 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 76/9 in 21.4 overs (TGT: 270) | Santner 2 (6) : 5 wickets for Mishraji! Sodhi goes for a mighty heave, gets a leading edge and walks back. India are now 1 wicket away from registering their biggest win versus New Zealand in terms of runs in ODIs.

OUT! Ish Sodhi c Ajinkya Rahane b Amit Mishra 0 (5)

  • 7:21 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 76/8 in 21 overs (TGT: 270) | Santner 2 (5), Sodhi 0 (1): Jayant finishes another tight over. Expect some fightback from Santner, he does not deserve to be on the losing side.

  • 7:17 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 74/8 in 19.5 overs (TGT: 270) | Santner 0 (0): This is great bowling by Mishra, he has single-handedly ravaged the Kiwis. Tim Southee defends a few, but then goes for a stroke, loses his balance and Dhoni is quick enough to make New Zealand feel the pain again. 4 wickets already for Mishra.

OUT! Tim Southee st MS Dhoni b Amit Mishra 0 (4)

  • 7:15 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 76/7 in 19.1 overs (TGT: 270) | Santner 0 (1): WICKET! Amit Mishra, YOU BEAUTY! He pitches one outside off to the left-handed Neesham, who leaps forward to defend but misses the line completely. The ball turns in sharply, and goes between his bat and pads to crash into the wickets. India set for a massive victory; New Zealand have lost 5 wickets for 11 runs now.

OUT! Jimmy Neesham b Amit Mishra 3 (13)

  • 7:12 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 76/6 in 19 overs (TGT: 270) | Neesham 3 (12): Jayant continues. Neesham is batting with far more caution against a new spinner in the circuit than he would normally. And this is why: he tries to cut, gets an edge and the ball pops out of Rahane’s bat at the first slip. Anderson is OUT! Jayant loops one and pitches it in front of the pads in the line of the middle stump, and the batsman’s bat hit the pad while coming down. Too late. Jayant was already celebrating his first international wicket by then.

OUT! Corey Anderson lbw Jayant Yadav 0 (7)

  • 7:08 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 73/5 in 18 overs (TGT: 270) | Neesham 2 (7), Anderson 0 (6): Mishra starts off with a dot to Anderson, close call for a leg-before, but turned down, followed by a couple of dots again. The fourth delivery is again a dot, followed by another dot, as the next ball is a wide cum boundary down at fine leg, while the over ends with a dot as well.

  • 7:04 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 68/5 in 17 overs (TGT: 270) | Neesham 2 (6), Anderson 0 (0): Jayant Mishra comes on, India are on a roll here. Neesham pushes one on the leg side to get off the mark. Not much batting left for the Kiwis, who will have to be very careful against the 4 Indian spinners. Kiwis need 202 off 198 to win with 5 wickets in hand.

  • 6:59 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 66/5 in 16 overs (TGT: 270) | Neesham 0 (1) : WICKET! Ross Taylor walks back having scored a 32-ball 19, having nicked one behind to Dhoni off Amit Mishra. A massive wicket for India, end of a horrible tour for a quality player. The players took drinks, and on the other side, Mishra finds gap between BJ Watling’s bat and pads. Cleaned him up!

OUT! Ross Taylor c MS Dhoni b Amit Mishra 19 (32)

OUT! BJ Watling b Amit Mishra 0 (2)

  • 6:52 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 64/3 in 15 overs (TGT: 270) | Taylor 17 (28), Neesham 0 (1) : Akshar is unlucky! One ball keeps low, it would have hit the wickets but Taylor’s bat came in rescue just at the right time. But no more unlucky! OUT! Ravi Shastri gave the hint in the commentary box, that Akshar is very close to getting a wicket and now, boy, he has REMOVED KANE WILLIAMSON! Kedar Jadhav takes a nice tumbling catch. Williamson and Latham were the biggest threats for India, and both have been dismissed inside 15 overs.

OUT! Kane Williamson c Kedar Jadhav b Akshar Patel 27 (40)

  • 6:47 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 62/2 in 14 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 27 (38), Taylor 15 (25): Taylor happily playing second fiddle, continues to deal in singles. New Zealand need him to score big and Taylor will have to give himself time to achieve something significant. 5 runs off Mishra’s over.

  • 6:43 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 57/2 in 13 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 25 (36), Taylor 12 (21): Akshar keeps Williamson pinned at strike for the first three balls, a very interesting battle panning out. On the fourth ball, Williamson cuts very close to the wickets, beats Kohli at gully and gets a FOUR.

  • 6:41 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 53/2 in 12 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 21 (30), Taylor 12 (21): Taylor cuts well to take two off the first ball from Amit Mishra. A single on the next ball. What did Williamson do here? Did the ball stop at him? He lobbed the ball very close to the man at cover, got a single. New Zealand have brought up their 50-run mark. Six runs off the over.

  • 6:37 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 47/2 in 11 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 19 (28), Taylor 8 (17): Taylor beaten outside off once again by Akshar. The left-armer is having some fun bowling to the New Zealand veteran, who is off the strike with a single to long off on the fourth ball. Kiwis need 223 off 234 balls.

  • 6:34 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 46/2 in 10 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 19 (26), Taylor 7 (13): Width from Bumrah, and clueless Taylor throws his bat at it, gets a boundary. Williamson survives another close run-out chance, Mandeep is on fire. Another poor call for running between the wickets, might have been a run-out had there been a fielder backing up on the striker’s end.

  • 6:31 PM IST

This is the 8th game of this India-New Zealand series. We have had 3 Tests and this is the last of the 5 ODIs. But New Zealand veteran Ross Taylor has still not figured out which one will turn away from a spinner and which will straighten up.

  • 6:30 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 40/2 in 9 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 18 (24), Taylor 2 (9): Akshar Patel comes on to bowl. Clearly, the idea is to angle the ball into these two right-handers. Another dive from Mandeep, who saves few more crucial runs for India. Kohli! Makes a terrific dive, throws at the wicket but off the mark. Williamson was looking towards the sky at the end of it. He’d have been out by a mile.

  • 6:27 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 38/2 in 8 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 17 (23), Taylor 1 (4): Taylor gets off the mark on the fourth ball of the over, with a single to third man. The Vizag crowd has been totally behind Bumrah, cheering his name, which perhaps spurs the right-arm bowler to send down another measly over.

  • 6:23 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 37/2 in 7 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 17 (21), Taylor 0 (1): Williamson gets a much needed boundary, with Umesh pitching it up and the batsman hitting it past mid off. Dhoni signalled Umesh to push the length back; he did, but there was width and Williamson hammered it for the second FOUR of the over. New Zealand need 233 off 258 to win.

  • 6:18 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 28/2 in 6 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 9 (15), : Bumrah doing a far better job from the other end. He is bowling short, into the left-handed Latham, who is not able to get off the strike here. AND A WICKET! India have struck again! Bumrah bowls another short ball, Latham is early into the shot, gets a leading edge and Jayant takes simplest of catches to hurt New Zealand.

OUT! Tom Latham c Jayant Yadav b Jasprit Bumrah 19 (17)

  • 6:12 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 27/1 in 5 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 8 (12), Latham 19 (14): Forced to eat up my words again; Umesh begins with another leg-side wayward delivery, and Latham gets another four. Umesh then improvises, bowls three dots on the trot. No, no point praising Umesh. He feeds Latham a delivery to gently push it past cover for the second boundary in the over.

  • 6:08 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 19/1 in 4 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 8 (12), Latham 11 (8): Bumrah keeps Williamson pinned at the strike for four balls, and beating the Kiwis’ captain once outside off. But then, a little width is enough for Williamson to rock back to punch it past cover for a FOUR.

  • 6:06 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 15/1 in 3 overs (TGT: 270) | Williamson 4 (6), Latham 11 (8): Kiwis are certainly bundle of nerves with Umesh firing early on. No, I will eat up my words. Umesh gifts the final ball of his second over on the pads to Latham, who hammers it for a boundary!

  • 6:00 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 7/1 in 2 overs | Williamson 4 (6), Latham 3 (2): Mandeep the Superman saves a certain boundary off Williamson’s bat at cover. He covers up for Bumrah who bowls a few wide deliveries to the New Zealand captain first up. A short ball to Latham, who hits in the air to collect 2 runs. India need to keep striking, this Latham-Williamson stand can hurt them.

  • 5:56 PM IST

LIVE: New Zealand 2/1 in 1 overs | Kane Williamson 3(2) , Tom Latham 0(0) : WOW! JUST WOW! Remember how Umesh cleaned up Guptill in the second ODI? There is a repeat. Pitched at good length on middle and off, squares up the right-hander and knocks down the off-stump. Umesh Yadav, you beauty!

  • 5:53 PM IST

OUT! Martin Guptill b Umesh Yadav 0 (4)

  • 5:20 PM IST

LIVE: India 269/6 in 50 overs | Jadhav 39 (37), Jayant Yadav 1 (1): SIX! Jadhav it is! He comes down the track and hits over long on. India are looking good with this total. BOWLED! Boult shows why he is famous for, bowls an unplayable yorker to Patel who gets an inside edge. Debutant Jayant Yadav gets off the mark on his first ball in international cricket, and Jadhav ends with 2 runs off the final ball. India have set a daunting total!

OUT! Akshar Patel b Trent Boult 24 (18)

  • 5:15 PM IST

LIVE: India 259/5 in 49 overs | Jadhav 30 (34), Akshar 23 (16): Southee bowls, slow, short. Akshar rams it hard but one bounce to long on. Jadhav throws everything he had in that stroke on another short ball, which went to midwicket for another single. So, Jadhav connected on short balls twice in the overs, but failed to find gaps. Meanwhile, India trudge past 250-run mark. BANG! Akshar, you beauty! A SIX down the ground pushes India further. A single to end the over, 12 off it.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of India vs New Zealand 2016-17. This is the fifth and final One-Day International (ODI) of the series. The series is equally poised until now and this match, played in Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, will decide the fate of the series. So far, both the teams have given each other tough competition in terms of scoring runs, taking wickets and fitness on field. However, India, the hosts, are naturally the favourites for the final match like all the other ones. The only ODI series win for India since their series against Sri Lanka is the one in Zimbabwe and with the New Zealand series at hand, they will surely look to improve the win-loss ratio. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs New Zealand, 5th ODI at Visakhapatnam

New Zealand are currently ranked third in the ICC ODI rankings while India are following them at fourth position. Beating New Zealand in an ODI series will earn the hosts points and help step closer to an improved ranking. While Dhoni’s captaincy may not be under immediate threat but a series loss against New Zealand will certainly raise questions about ‘Captain Cool’s’ ability to marshall his resources after his much publicised admission of being unable to rotate strike lower down the order.
