    OUT! M Vijay c Elgar b Philander 1 (17)

  • 8:52 PM IST

South Africa lose a review early. Vijay looks to leave, the ball comes in and strikes his pad. Remember, if you are letting go then striking outside off-stump does not matter. The ball held its line and wasn’t really coming in that much.

  • 8:47 PM IST

He is right on the money. Vijay defends. Here is the best pacer in the recent times. He is getting it shape away nicely. His trademark deliveries. Steyn starts with a maiden.

Philander with the new cherry. Bowls outside leg, Vijay flicks it for a single. Dhawan on strike. This will be a test for Dhawan. He lets the first one go. Then Philander bowls outside off and Dhawan opens the face for a boundary. The fourth ball moves in sharply, cutting Dhawan in half. Huge appeal but that clipped his thigh. Slightly over-pitched and Dhawan gloriously drives through cover for a boundary. Eventful over. 9 from it.

  • 8:30 PM IST

Ashwin deceives Morkel with an arm ball that comes in straight. He is struck on the pads and trapped in front of off-stump. South Africa from 12 for 3, have done well to reach 286. Barring the 112-run stand between Faf and AB, the lower order made useful contributions.

OUT! Morne Morkel lbw b Ravichandran Ashwin 2 (9)

Finally, a Shami special castles Philander. In the previous ball, Philander had left a similar ball. Now this swings in, between bat and pad, to the top of the off-stump. The Philander resistance ends.

OUT! Vernon Philander b Mohammed Shami 23 (35)

  • 6:25 PM IST

Shami is into the attack. He is the only wicket-less seamer today. Two boundaries come off it. An outside edge and the other one smoked through cover. India are allowing some easy runs.

  • 6:16 PM IST

Dropped? India’s slip catching woes continue. Dhawan drops a sitter at first slip. India dropped 20.9 % of catches in 2017, the most by any side.

  • 6:08 PM IST

The sixty partnership comes up. These two have batted together for just 9 overs. De Kock is nearing a fifty. He is racing away with the proceedings. Well? Bhuvi gets him with a beauty. That kisses the outside edge to Saha’s gloves. Big blow for South Africa. Bhuvi gets 4!

OUT! Quinton de Kock c Wriddhiman Saha b Bhuvneshwar Kumar 43 (40)

De Kock doing a de Villiers. The South African wicketkeeper has launched a counterattack. Gets three back-to-back boundaries off Bumrah. A straight drive, cut and cover drive.

  • 5:28 PM IST

Very good ball. Pandya got the ball to move in sharply, beating Faf’s bat before finding the front pad. Umpire turns it down. Umpire’s call saves him. That was close, just clipping the stumps. Pandya and Kohli are livid. Of course, with their luck.

Two balls later, Pandya gets him. Faf nicks the away moving ball. Saha takes a good catch to his right. Kohli sends off Faf. South Africa in trouble. Deep trouble.

    OUT! F du Plessis c Wriddhiman Saha b Hardik Pandya 62 (104)
  • 5:18 PM IST

Du Plessis has played a captain’s knock here. Cuts Bumrah square, to the ropes, to bring up his 16th Test fifty. His scores against India before this: 0 1 0 10 39 0 10

Hello and welcome to the live blog of the first Test between India and South Africa at Cape Town, South Africa. I, Suvajit Mustafi, will be bringing all the intriguing news, match happenings and highlights as well funny posts from the world of social media.

Having had a brilliant run of form in the home series, India embrace on a tough tour of South Africa. Both sides will engage in a three-Test series, which will be followed by the limited-overs leg. The series is being billed as a contest between South Africa’s bowling and India’s batting. Both teams have well-settled lineup, but conditions are most likely to favour the home side.

Talking about numbers, India are yet to win their maiden series in South Africa.

South Africa will be bolstered by the presence of AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn in the squad. They are in all likelihood to employ a 4-man pace attack, with Keshav Maharaj acting as the lone spinner.

India, on the other hand, will go forward with a four-man attack, which includes 3 fast bowlers and one spinner. Shikhar Dhawan has been declared fit after suffering an ankle injury, however, Ravindra Jadeja is under the weather.
