IND 220 for 1 in 28.5 overs. Shikhar Dhawan remains unbeaten on 132*, Virat Kohli 82*

IND go 1-0 up in the five-match ODI series. God please instill some fighting spirit in SL. That’s it guys. Join us for the second match. Meanwhile, hang in there and read our match report and highlights to follow….

That was so easy for ind. With 127 balls in the bank, IND march past SL’s modest total of 216 runs. Only Rohit Sharma fell for 4 and Kohli-Dhawan continued doing what they do best; i.e. chasing in style and not allowing others to bat. They were comfortable against pacers, who were punished for bowling short, and spin posed no threat as well.

  • 8:13 PM IST

    After 23 overs, ind 163 for 1

Dhawan has crossed 100, Kohli goes past another fifty. Yes, this is how easy it has been for IND. Nothing much to say. SL have been ordinary and out of ideas since their debacle with the willow.
217 was never going to be challenging for IND.

    ind 78/1 (12)

    50-run stand between Kohli-Dhawan

  • 7:27 PM IST

Light work for Dhawan-Kohli. India on track and moving swiftly towards the paltry score. Surprisingly, SL have resorted to the short balls too often. Time to bring their spinners?

  • 7:09 PM IST

Rohit gone? No issues for IND. They are on course with Virat Kohli having already smashed two boundaries, and Dhawan is into the 30s as well.

    After 8 overs, ind 49/1
  • 6:57 PM IST

SL draw first blood. IND lose Rohit Sharma early. The vice-captain would feel unlucky as he dropped his bat mid way. Anyway, hosts get going

    ind 23/1 (5)
  • 6:40 PM IST

    After 2 oevrs, ind 9/0

  • 6:40 PM IST

ind begin chase of 217. Rohit and Shikhar will be rearing game to go; like they did in CT17 vs sl.

  • 5:49 PM IST

Join us back for the Indian innings after a short break.

  • 5:49 PM IST

Sad, really sad after 139 for 1, Sl fold for 216 in 43.2 overs. Indian spinners began to slowly push them to the wall and the fall of Dickwella-Mendis triggered a collapse. Tharanga departed on a full-toss as SL’s middle order showed no resistance. Mathews remains strangled at 36, but shouldn’t be of any use. ind should get this easily.

The likes of Chamara Kapugedra, Thisara Perera and Lakshan Sandakan had to just hold onto their ends, but they failed. I think there was panic in the middle. From India’s perspective, Jadhav initiated the comeback, Chahal and Bumrah chipped in but Akshar Patel finishes with 3 for 34.
    As a result, SL 216 for 10 (43.2)
  • 4:42 PM IST

SL have to be cautious. They have lost two in-form players, in Mendis and Dickwella, but cannot completely bog down. They have the most experienced duo of Mathews and Tharanga in the middle. Will be an interesting phase with Indian spinners operating in tandem.

    SL 158 for 3 (30)
  • 4:23 PM IST

Sri Lanka lose Dickwella just when he was playing Jadhav with ease. He was predicting his lines well, but went for a lazy sweep, no connect with the bat and three dots give him out for a well-made 64.

SL lose a review and another wicket. Man-wtih-golden-arm does the trick for Kohli once again. SL 139 for 2 (24.2 overs)
  • 4:04 PM IST

    SL 117 for 1 (20)

SL going well. Looking on course to post anything close to 300. The platform is set and Kusal Mendis is very cleverly upping the ante along with Dickwella. Chahal and Pandya operating in the middle, but looks like ‘man-with-golden-arm’ Kedar Jadhav will bowl the 21st over.
  • 3:39 PM IST

And Chahal strikes. He sends Gunathilaka for 35. The partnership was brewing and taking the game away from India, but the leggie removes the left-hander. It was a premeditated reverse sweep from him and Chahal gave enough flight. A bottom edge hurt the batsman and KL Rahul plucked an easy catch.

    SL 74/1 (14)
  • 3:29 PM IST

After a good start for SL, Kohli has moved onto Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah.

Let’s see what the duo can do. Will be interesting to see if there is turn from now on for Chahal.
    SL 68/0 (12)
  • 3:13 PM IST

Dickwella and Gunathilaka put on 50 runs for the first wicket. Good start this from SL after being put into bat. No change in bowling yet for India.

SL 52 for no loss (9)
  • 2:57 PM IST

Coming back to the game, SL openers are moving in confidence. They have added 27 off 6 overs. Gunathilaka on 14*; Dickwella on 12*.

India pacers in search of wickets.
  • 2:56 PM IST

Also, I reckon a bit harsh on Kuldeep after his heroics in West Indies. Was hoping for him to get a game after Kohli spoke of importance of wrist spinners in the pre-match conference yesterday.

Akhsar keeps a tight line, Chahal gives flight, but Kuldeep has variations and a calm head as well. Some interesting choices already by Team India
  • 2:55 PM IST

Guys, how good is the decision to bowl Pandya before Bumrah? I understand Pandya can swing the ball and Bumrah is effective towards the end overs, but who could have been a better choice?

  • 2:46 PM IST

Runs are starting to come. Both Bhuvi and Pandya trying to get their length right. Meanwhile, Dickwella and Gunathilaka have already got going with a few boundaries. The pitch is conducive for batting (though it maybe change much under lights), but India cannot allow SL to pile up a big score.

    After 3 overs, SL 19/0
  • 2:41 PM IST

Surprisingly, Pandya bowls the second over. No Bumrah? He gives away 8 runs, being erratic as he is at start. A boundary for Gunathilaka’s blade eases pressure from the left-hander…

SL 9 for no loss (2)
  • 2:35 PM IST

SL 1/0 in 1 over: Bhuvneshwar Kumar starts the proceedings for Team India. A god over, despite being slightly wide once, and Lanka off the mark courtesy Niroshan Dickwella. Single off the first over!

Have you ever thought of a possibility of a World Cup being hosted without Sri Lanka’s participation? They have not only won the 1996 edition but also have been the runners-up in the 2007 and 2011 editions. They made it to the semi-final stage of 2003 and quarter-finals of 2015. The reality is, Sri Lanka need 2 wins to ensure their automatic qualification for the 2019 mega event and not depend on other results. Hello, this is Aditya Sahay from CricketCountry and I am your host for the day. I will provide you the live updates from the India-Sri Lanka contest at Dambulla, where the sides will tussle in the 1st ODI. Stay tuned to this place for the live updates and best tweets from the social space. FULL SCORECARD OF IND-SL, 1st ODI

India are the side to beat here. They are the ranked third side in ODIs and enter the tournament as outright favourites. Despite resting some of the big guns, this Indian side looks robust enough. Sri Lanka’s hopes will however be pinned on sneaking upsets. They are no alien to this word. Just over 2 months back, a young Sri Lankan side got the better of the star-studded Indian line-up in the ICC Champions Trophy group game at The Oval. This is where Sri Lanka can draw inspiration from. And like aforementioned, Sri Lanka are no alien to the word ‘upset’. They let a lower-ranked Zimbabwean side to clinch a series win against them at their own backyard. They have young guns in Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Lakshan Sandakan and enough experience in the likes of Upul Tharanga, Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera, to help them see through this turmoil phase. For India, Virat Kohli’s men have just completed a 3-0 routing in the Test series and would eye another whitewash to suffice their hunger.

Virat Kohli (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma(vc), KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Ajinkya Rahane, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur.

Sri Lanka: Upul Tharanga (c), Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella, Dhanushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Chamara Kapugedera, Milinda Siriwardana, Malinda Pushpakumara, Akila Dananjaya, Lakshan Sandakan, Thisara Perera, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lasith Malinga, Dushmantha Chameera, Vishva Fernando
