THATS IT! India win by an innings and 53 runs. Ashwin takes his second wicket in the form of Nuwan Pradeep. Praddep tyring to go over the in-field hands Dhawan a simple catch and India a 2-0 unassailable lead.

  • 2:29 PM IST

OUT! Hardik Pandya gets NIroshan Dickwella. He was playing the spinners so well but could squeeze him past the gully fielder Nuwan Pradeep is the final man in for Sri Lanka.

  • 1:54 PM IST

OUT! Another one bites the dust. Jadeja gets his ninth 5-for in Test, while first in Sri Lanka. Another superb low catch by Ajinkya Rahane at first slip. Mind you there is no Nuwan Pradeep available for Sri Lanka but he will bat.

  • 1:13 PM IST

OUT! Thats two in a row. The bounce and pitch combination is becoming to tough for Sri Lanka to handle. Angelo Mathews went for the cut shot by extra purchase had him in a fix that handed Wriddhiman Saha a simple catch. Jadeja gets his second in as many overs.

  • 1:03 PM IST

OUT! Dimuth Karunaratne falls for 141. This was a literally an unplayable delivery by Ravindra Jadeja. The ball spitted venom from the pitch. He along with Mathews added 69 runs for the fifth wicket. Niroshan Dickwella is now in the middle.

  • 12:59 PM IST

Hardik Pandya is bowling cutter’s and a bit of leg-spin. Wouldn’t Kuldeep Yadav been a better option sans a run-up. India’s tactics are now seeming quite in the moment and nothing out of the blue.

  • 12:45 PM IST

Welcome back for the post lunch session, India will hope to snatch quick wicket and deny Sri Lanka any hopes of a win. Dimuth Karunaratne will look to repeat his stonewalling in the second session as well. Angelo Mathews would want to make his bat do all the talking in the middle. Ravindra Jadeja to start the session for India.

  • 12:03 PM IST

LUNCH. Dimuth Karunaratne has stonewalled Indian bowlers’ since last evening and shows no signs of any change in attitude. Angelo Mathews meanwhile is giving able support to Dimuth, he will be expected to muster on for as long as possible.

  • 11:35 AM IST

With the new ball in hand, India have brought on both their pacers from each end. Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav will be expected to snatch either one of Dimuth or Angelo before lunch.

  • 11:18 AM IST

Angelo Mathews have taken on Ravindra Jadeja from the get go. He did the same in the first innings as well. Mixed both defence and offence quite successfully. Dimuth, on the hand, is enjoying all the fireworks from non strikers end.

  • 10:54 AM IST

OUT! Dinesh Chandimal’s poor form with the bat continues. He hands Ajinkya Rahane a simple catch at slip. Poking outside the off stump line, ball catches a thick edge and Jadeja gets his first wicket in this innings.

  • 10:47 AM IST

OUT! Ravichandran Ashwin does his magic. Despite showing good technique, Malinda Pushpakumara lacked the composure in the middle. Trying to switch-hit Ashwin over the top, Pushpakumara missed the ball completely and his middle stump knocked over. Dinesh Chandimal is out in the middle.

  • 10:31 AM IST

100! This has been a champion knock by Dimuth Karunaratne. This was also his second ton in a follow-on innings. His sixth hundred came in 224 balls. With Dimuth going strong it becomes important that other batsmen too provide resistance.

  • 10:26 AM IST

Both Dimuth Karunaratne and Malinda Pushpakumara have played with determination in the morning session so far. Pushpakumara has been a bit lucky to edge the ball past Virat Kohli at slip. Dimuth is continuing his slow approach to a ton after being dropped by KL Rahul for 95.

  • 10:06 AM IST

Dimuth Karunaratne and Malinda Pushpakumara have quite a job on their hands early morning. Dimuth will be eager to get to his 100, after missing it in the Galle Test. India will bank on Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja to make good of bowler friendly conditions.

  • 9:58 AM IST

Mohammed Shami: The wicket is turning, but it’s on the slower side. Hopefully, we will get some early wickets. As for the pacers, we will have to play a supporting role. We could have perhaps tried different variations during the partnership. Need to judge the conditions and play according to it.”

So do we see a repeat of Galle 2015? Can Sri Lanka do the unlikely? Do we have a fantastic Test at hand? Or is it just a hollow optimism? Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the penultimate day’s play of the second Test at SSC Colombo. Thanks to Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne’s defiance, we got a game in hands. Hopefully, this would not be a one-sided affair. At 209 for 2, Sri Lanka are still trailing by 230 runs and Karunaratne is 8 short of his sixth Test hundred.

Like always, we at CricketCountry will be providing you with match updates and the best tweets from the cyberspace. The first two-and-half days were India-dominated. But this re-building Sri Lankan side’s resilience has even brought smiles on the faces of opponents’ fans. Ravichandran Ashwin could not stop raving about how well the youngster played. And it was the sweep shot that he executed to the best effect.

However to clear a deficit of 230, pile up a lead and then bowling out India, the No.1 Test side in the world, is being optimistic at the moment but this game has seen funny things happen. Sri Lanka have the likes of Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews and Niroshan Dickwella at disposal. The slow and low surface isn’t helping the spinners as there is hardly any carry.

The contest between the Indian bowlers and the Sri Lankan middle-order is expected to lit up this Sunday. The fingers remain crossed. Exciting cricket is what we all vie for.
