    IND 218/4 (45.1 overs). Dhoni-Rohit add 157* together. Dhoni 67*, Rohit 124*

  • 10:58 PM IST

That’s it. India win and seal the series. They were in a spot of bother, but once again Dhoni came into picture. He played the second fiddle (how many roles can he play?) as Rohit wrecked havoc with a fine unbeaten century. He was at his best during his stay in the middle.

SL failed to pile up a big score after a decent platform, and again couldn’t get through India’s batting order. A 6 wicket win for IND in the end. Crowds misbehaved to put a sudden halt, but couldn’t prevent the writing on the wall. Goodnight guys. Read our report and statistical highlights from the game. 🙂

India back on the road. This has been a feature of this series.

Rohit’s brilliance and Dhoni’s unmatched composure taking IND forward. Just 36 shy from victory and sealing the series. IND 182/4 (38)
  • 9:24 PM IST

100! This has been a brilliant knock under pressure by Rohit Sharma. His 12th ODI ton coming in 118 balls. Rohit along with Dhoni have added 99 runs for the fifth wicket.

  • 9:02 PM IST

    IND 130/4 (29)

  • 8:45 PM IST

Rohit, crossing 75, has now become the 9th most Indian run-getter in ODIs. Moves past Suresh Raina.

  • 8:44 PM IST

Meanwhile, Dananjaya is taking a wicket in every 9 deliveries in this series so far.

  • 8:44 PM IST

Note: Dhoni came down the track to 11 deliveries in the last ODI, more than any other Indian batsman.

  • 8:43 PM IST

    IND 108/4 (27)

  • 8:43 PM IST

There is something about Dhoni. You are almost assured that a wicket won’t fall soon when he arrives.

Has to be his patience! Rohit-Dhoni have swiftly added 47 off 53 balls. Rohit is unbeaten on 74, Dhoni on 7.
  • 8:20 PM IST

Again, India in all sorts of trouble.

Akila Dananjaya at it again. Well, India have a habit of making a particular opponents’ career in a series. This time it is Akila. First, KL Rahul went for a pull but only managed to catch hold of the fielder. There wasn’t much escalation after the ball hit the bat. Maybe, due to lack of pace.
Kedar Jadhav followed suit. He has absolutely no clue about Dananjaya’s variations. He went for a sweep, playing him for the first time tonight, and was trapped lbw. On the other hand, Dananjaya is a serious threat. With the wicket on the slower side a little and his variations, India are on the mat now.
Another Dhoni special? Unfair to expect so much from him.
    IND 64/4 (17)
  • 7:50 PM IST

    After 10 overs, IND 41-2

This is India’s lowest powerplay score in this series so far. Shows SL’s intent and much-better bowling. Vishwa Fernando is keeping it close to the stumps whereas Angelo Mathews bowling from the other end. Rahul-Rohit would like to stitch a good partnership with ample time in hand.
  • 7:30 PM IST

Another one gone. Kohli flicks, off Fernando, but finds the fielder at deep fine leg. Wasn’t exactly a wicket taking delivery, but SL won’t mind it. They are off and going. Good intensity this from them as they know they need quick wickets.

    IND 19/2 (6)
  • 7:11 PM IST

A careless shot from Dhawan and is departs for 4. Played a cut close to the body and chopped one onto the stumps. Malinga’s 299th scalp in ODIs as SL gets going

    IND 10/1 (3)
  • 6:57 PM IST

FOUR! Rohit is off the mark

  • 6:55 PM IST

    Indian innings….

  • 6:14 PM IST

SL 217/9 (50) That’s it. Another paltry score from Lankans. No one posed a threat apart from Thirimanne. Really disheartening.

On the other hand, Indian bowlers were on the money. Bumrah hogs maximum limelight with a deserving five-for.
  • 6:10 PM IST

    SL 210-9 (49)

  • 6:10 PM IST

Will SL at least play out their full quota of overs? Chameera gets run out courtesy Dhoni-Bhuvi

  • 6:05 PM IST

    SL 203/8 (48)

  • 6:05 PM IST

Action resumed. Milinda Siriwardana smacked Bumrah soon after the break, but the bowler gets his man. He has been spot on today. Best bowler by some distance.

Firstly, he got swing, has kept it tight throughout and is bowling the off cutters as well. A maiden five-for Bumrah and also his best figures. It was full and on the stumps as Milinda missed it completely to witness his stumps rattled.
  • 5:58 PM IST

Covers coming off. Russell Arnold said, “Not going to last” on air, looks like he was right.

  • 5:54 PM IST

Rain plays spoilsport. With just 3 overs remaining in SL’s innings.

  • 5:42 PM IST

    SL 190/6 (45)

Akshar Patel has again kept it tight. Boy, he is accurate. Got rid of captain Kapugedra as the batsman went for an inside-out drive, misses the length and departs. Another mediocre score on cards from SL. Just not being able to challenge IND :/
Sigh. This is becoming really sad.
  • 5:19 PM IST

The onus again lies on Kapugedra and Milinda Siriwardana.

  • 5:19 PM IST

What did we see in the 1st and 2nd ODI? Good start from SL and just when they were settling in the middle overs, they crumbled. The same happening today as well.

    From 100 for 2, SL 159 for 5 (40). Thirimanne departs for 80
  • 5:03 PM IST

Kedar Jadhav strikes again. Mathews just became the 3rd fastest SL to amass 1,000 runs vs IND in ODIs, but perished for a reckless shot. He went for a reverse sweep and gets plumbed lbw. Not expected from a senior pro like him.

Why Mathews why? Anyway, Jadhav keeps doing what he does best. He breaks another partnership and gets rid of a danger man. SL 140/4 (35)
  • 4:51 PM IST

India’s golden-arm-bowler, Kedar Jadhav, comes into the attack. This is the ideal time for his arrival. Kohli-Dhoni have chosen this slot for him it seems.

A tidy over to start with. Only a single coming off it. SL 126/3 (33)
  • 4:41 PM IST

Indian bowlers have been on par with afternoon. Pandya and Akshar giving nothing away. Thirimanne gets a fifty on his comeback trail, Mathews is warming up.

    SL 113/3 (30)
  • 4:27 PM IST

Pandya comes in rescue. The 72-run stand broken courtesy a soft dismissal. Chandimal flicked it, closing the face of the bat early, and it went straight to mid wicket.

Bumrah takes a clean catch. SL 102 for 3 (26)

IND-vs-SL (1)

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the third ODI between India and Sri Lanka. The venue remains unchanged from the second ODI as the picturesque Pallekele in the Kandy suburbs is set to host the third game of the series. I am Aditya Sahay and I will be providing you with the live updates and best tweets from this game. India’s tour of Sri Lanka 2017 has been a mismatch as the hosts have hardly been able to compete against the visitors. However, in the second ODI they did come close. Akila Dananjaya triggered a serious collapse in the Indian batting order, claiming 6 wickets, but the guile of MS Dhoni and the resilience of Bhuvneshwar Kumar saw India through. Maybe that is the hallmark of a great side. FULL SCORECARD

Sri Lanka will like to build up on the bit of momentum they gained and will look forward to win this do-or-die game for them. Beating India isn’t impossible feat for them as they showed it during the ICC Champions Trophy a few months back. These are the inspiration Sri Lanka can derive from. It has been a turmoil time in Sri Lankan cricket to say the least. Graham Ford’s resignation as the coach, then Angelo Mathews deciding to step down from captaincy and now captain Upul Tharanga has been banned for 2 ODIs, which means the crown falls upon Chamara Kapugedara, who in other words isn’t even a certainty in the XI. The return of Dinesh Chandimal however is a bright sign for the visitors.

India have no reasons to play around with their XI but there is an outside chance of Kuldeep Yadav making the cut in place of Yuzvendra Chahal. For Kohli and his troops, this is an opportunity to seal another series.

Sri Lanka: Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Milinda Siriwardana, Chamara Kapugedera, Upul Tharanga, Akila Dananjaya, Dushmantha Chameera, Vishwa Fernando, Lakshan Sandakan, Lasith Malinga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Thisara Perera, Malinda Pushpakumara

India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (c), KL Rahul, MS Dhoni (wk), Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Manish Pandey, Shardul Thakur, Ajinkya Rahane, Yuzvendra Chahal
