Mirpur: Mar 13, 2012

Gautam Gambhir hit a fluent half-century and Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 41, as India reached 114 for one from 25 overs against Sri Lanka in their opening match of the four-nation Asia Cup 2012 in Mirpur on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka bowler Suranga Lakmal jolted India early when he had star India batsman Sachin Tendulkar caught by Mahela Jayawardene for six.

Tendulkar faced 19 balls and hit a boundary before being dismissed in the sixth over.

Kohli then joined forces with Gambhir as they solidified Indian innings, putting up an unbeaten 95–run partnership for the second wicket.

Gambhir struck six boundaries to reach 64 not out off 71 balls, accompanied by Kohli batting on 41 off 61 balls hitting one boundary.

Earlier, Sri Lanka skipper Jayawardene won the toss and elected to field.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja has been included ahead of Yusuf Pathan, while Sachin Tendulkar will open the innings with Gautam Gambhir in the absence of a ‘rested’ Virender Sehwag.
In Sri Lanka’s line-up, all-rounder Angelo Mathews is yet to recover from his calf injury and will miss today’s match.
Also out is pacer Lasith Malinga who has been replaced by Suranga Lakmal.
