Mumbai Indians produced an inspired bowling performance to restrict Chennai Super Kings to a modest total of 112 in their opening game of IPL 2012 at Chennai on Tuesday.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings batsmen struggled on a fresh laid track at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and failed to put up partnerships.

Apart from Suresh Raina, who struck two boundaries and a six for his 36 off 26 deliveries, no Chennai batsmen could make a mark against a disciplined bowling attack of Mumbai.

The home side missed their star Australia batsman Michael Hussey, who s presently in the Caribbean gearing up for a three-match series.

South African Faf du Plessis, who was pushed up in the order as an opener, was run out for three on the fourth ball of the game.

Murali Vijay fell in the sixth over to James Franklin for 10, which included one boundary.

Dwayne Bravo and Raina then added 37 runs for the third wicket to bail their side out of trouble. Both the batsmen were dismissed by Pragyan.

Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was run out for three, while the biggest signing of IPL 5, Ravindra Jadeja, fell for three as well.

Brief Scores: CSK 112 all-out in 19.5 ovs (Suresh Raina 36, Dwayne Bravo 19; Kieron Pollard 2 for 15, Lasith Malinga 2 for 16, Pragyan Ojha 2 for 17) vs MI
