Gulbis continues, and bowls a huge wide which would have cleared the fence had Tim Paine not stopped it with a wonderful dive. It doesn’t make much of a difference as George Bailey hits TWO CONSECUTIVE BOUNDARIES to seal a comfortable victory for them. The top order didn’t do well, and that’ll be a matter of discussion amongst their team management, but Maxwell fired and Bailey, Perera continued the scoring momentum after his dismissal. Great bowling performance from them too, and chasing a total less than 150 is not too difficult in T20.

Ben Laughlin to bowl the 17th over. KXIP are looking to finish this as soon as possible. Perera clobbers one outside the fence for FOUR! Just 10 more needed and they could win it in the next over.

Evan Gulbis who dismissed the dangerous Maxwell returns to the attack. Perera doesn’t believe in taking singles it seems. He is swinging to everything, and manages to get a boundary this over too. KXIP have carried the momentum from IPL 2014 to CLT20 2014 too.

Hobart Hurricanes are running short of ideas here, and Ben Hilfenhaus has been brought in to bowl his final over. It was turning out to be a good over, but Geroge Bailey hits a superb shot off the last ball. 26 needed from 30.

Ben Laughlin to bowl the 14th over. KXIP are beyond the stage when they need to attack. This should be a walk in the park for them, and they should win it with a few overs to spare.

Doug Bollinger comes in to bowl his last over. These two have continued the momentum after Maxwell’s dismissal. Bailey hits him for a FOUR second ball, and Perera hits him for another FOUR fifth ball.

Boyce continues, and hands the advantage back to KXIP. 18 from that over. Perera starts off with a bang, and Bailey hits a six too! 50 needed from 48.

Evan Gulbis enters the attack and Glenn Maxwell welcomes him by hitting a superb boundary. Gulbis comes back well though, and dismisses the dangerous Maxwell. His luck runs out finally. Huge wicket for Hobart, and they look jubilant. Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera who can hit the ball a long way comes in to bat.
OUT! Maxwell c Paine b Gulbis 43(25)

Laughlin continues, and almost has Maxwell! He does not time it well, but the ball doesn’t fall anywhere near a fielder. Lucky day for SuperMax!

Maxwell magic continues! Starts with a SIX first ball, and reverse sweeps one for a four! Leggie Boyce isn’t troubling him much. 79 needed from 66 balls, which is not much by T20 standards.

Ben Laughlin enters the attack, and takes the wicket of Manan Vohra. Wickets are coming at a steady rate for Hobart, and the target of 145 suddenly seems steep. Captain Bailey comes in to face his former teammates. KXIP need these 2 to build a steady partnership.
OUT! Manan Vohra c Hilfenhaus b B Laughlin 18(21)

Cameron Boyce enters the attack. Maxwell’s been dismissed 7 times by leg spinners in this year’s IPL, and he almost gave his wicket away this time to a leg spinner too. Hits one into the air, but it falls in no-man’s land.

Maxwell hits another one! Hilfenhaus gets the treatment this time. SuperMax isn’t afraid to take risks, and luck is going his side today. Edges one that misses the stumps and goes away past the boundary. 10 from the over.

What a shot from Maxwell! He opens his account with a SIX! Is it his day today? Good over otherwise from Bollinger. Just 7 runs from it despite a six.

David Miller doesn’t live up to his reputation of being ‘Killer’! Ben Hilfenhaus takes his first wicket. Glenn ‘SuperMax’ Maxwell comes in for KXIP. He can win it single-handedly if today is his day.

Bollinger strikes again! Saha tries to hit him for a six but doesn’t time it well. It goes very high in the air, and falls straight into the hands of Pakistani Shoaib Malik. In comes Killer Miller! He has been sent ahead of Maxwell.
OUT! Wriddhiman Saha c Shoaib Malik b Bollinger 11(9)

The bearded Ben Hilfenhaus comes into the attack. Wriddhiman Saha hits him away for a four! Hilfenhaus comes back well, and induces the edge of Saha. Unfortunately for Hobart, it fell between the slips and a tough low catch wasn’t taken. Just the 2 boundaries off the over.

Oh dear! Virender Sehwag looks to hit a SIX first ball, but manages to hit it straight into the hands of third man. Hobart couldn’t have hoped for a better start. Great first over from Bollinger, despite the boundary off the last ball.
OUT! Virender Sehwag c Boyce b Bollinger 0(1)

Awana comes to bowl the final over, and misses his line second ball and gets dispatched to the boundary by Travis Birt. Birt tries to play a super cheeky shot (some variation of Dilscoop) and finds Karanveer Singh. 8 from that over, which makes it a good one for KXIP. They’ll now look to chase this down with ease, but Bollinger and Hilfenhaus won’t make it easy for the home side.
OUT! Travis Birth c Karanveer b Awana 28(21)

Anureet Singh who hasn’t disappointed the team management on the opportunity he was given comes in to bowl his final over. He bowls a tight over again, and the Hobart batsman cannot get anything other than singles in the over.

Akshar Patel comes back to bowl his last. And, the dangerous Jonathan Wells is gone! Some confusion between him and Birt and Wriddhiman Saha makes no mistake affecting a run out. Brilliant over, and spell from Akshar. Just 2 from this over, and 20 from his four overs.
OUT! Jonathan Wells run out (Karanveer Singh/W Saha) 28(18)

Thisara Perera who has taken the two crucial wickets of Dunk and Blizzard, comes in to do it the third time! But, he is dispatched for TWO CONSECUTIVE BOUNDARIES by Jonathan Wells. 50 partnership from 28 balls this. Good comeback from these two.

Akshar Patel who has been so economical for KXIP in the past continues, and makes it difficult for Hobart’s batsman again. However, Wells moves his feet well to dispatch the fourth ball outside the boundary. Still, just 8 runs off the over.

Karanveer Singh comes back, and is welcomed with a BIG SIX by Travis Birt. He is finding the zone he likes to be in, as he clobbers another one into the crowd for a SIX! Excellent over for Hobart. The charge is on from them.

Anureet Singh to bowl Over No 14 for KXIP. He bowls one short and wide, and Jonathan Wells gets it away for a boundary. Wells times the last ball past David Miller who chases it hard, but fails! 10 from the over.

Another one bites the dust! Karanveer Singh comes into the attack, and Shoaib Malik falls! He was looking in good touch, and finding the middle of the bat. However, he found the hands of George Bailey too. Karanveer comes back beautifully after his expensive first over.
OUT! Shoaib Malik c Bailey b Karanveer Singh 14 (14)

Thisara Perera comes into the attack for KXIP, and strikes again! After dismissing the dangerous Dunk, he takes the wicket of Blizzard who was starting to look dangerous. Hobart struggling now.
OUT! Aiden Blizzard c Awana b T Perera 27(18)

Leg-spinner Karanveer Singh bowls the 11th over. Blizzard enjoys it, as he goes after him fourth ball and dispatches one outside the boundary for a SIX! 11 from the over. Blizzard and Malik are both dangerous batsman, and this partnership is just starting to build. Meanwhile, the Mohali stadium is grooving to the tunes of London Thumak da!

Akshar Patel comes into the attack! And it’s another lucky break for Blizzard! He charges down the pitch, but edges it. The ball goes past the wicket and the wicket-keeper for a four! The first 10 overs have seen some really tight bowling by KXIP.

Glenn Maxwell, who took a neat catch last over, comes to inflict damage with the ball. He almost does it, as Blizzard edges one past the wicketkeeper for FOUR! Malik starts his innings with a three singles.

Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera comes into the attack and takes a wicket! Glenn Maxwell takes a brilliant catch. He makes it look like one at least. The dangerous Ben Dunk is out! Huge wicket for KXIP.
OUT! Ben Dunk c Maxwell b Perera 26 (25)

Virender Sehwag has been given the ball! And he almost takes a wicket first ball. The ball just misses Ben Dunk’s edge. He comes down the track next ball, but finds the fielder and just manages a single. He finally gives Sehwag the treatment by hitting a FOUR on the 4th ball. 8 from that over.

Bailey decides to persist with Awana! Ben Dunk finally manages to find a gap and dispatches one outside the fence. That helps him break his shackles and he gets TWO CONSECUTIVE BOUNDARIES off the 4th and 5th ball. A good over for Hobart. 13 off it. End of the power play.

Akshar Patel comes in to bowl! And strikes! The frustration gets the better of Tim Paine as he makes room and tries to pierce the off side field, but the ball misses his bat and rattles the stumps! Patel got the wicket due to some great tight bowling by Awana and Anureet. Aiden Blizzard is the new man in. 2 from the over and a wicket.
OUT! Tim Paine b Akshar Patel

Awana who bowled a wonderful first over, returns to the attack. Pressure building on Hobart batsman who are not able to score freely. Just 3 from the over. Another great over by Awana. Excellent start by KXIP!

Anureet Singh to continue. Paine tries to flick him for a six first ball, but the ball falls in no man’s land. Thisara Perera was just getting there. Lucky escape for him, and he makes the most of it by smashin one above the in-field for a FOUR third ball.

Parvinder Awana comes in to bowl the second over. He was hammered by KKR batsman in the IPL 2014 finals, and certainly wouldn’t like a repeat of that in this match. The first four balls are dots, and Tim Paine scrapes a single off the fifth. Just a run from that. Good over for KXIP. They are looking sharp in the field, and showing a lot of energy.

Anureet Singh to bowl the first over. This is a CLT20 debut for both teams. Dunk doesn’t manage to get a boundary off the first over, despite playing aggressively with intent.

When KXIP’s Akshar Patel concedes at equal or less than 6 rpo, they win 72% of their matches.

KXIP win 83% of their matches if their bowlers take 2 or more wickets in Power Play.

George Bailey has won the toss for KXIP and elected to bowl first.

Read the preview of the match here, and check out some of the key battles here.

Kings XI Punjab will play their first match of the CLT20 2014 against the Hobart Hurricanes on Thursday at Mohali. Both the teams have were the runners up in their respective domestic leagues, so they would like to make it big here in this tournament. KXIP will miss the services of the Aussie pacer Mitchell Johnson as he is unfit for this match. Instead, Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera will get a chance to prove his worth. hobart will be lead by Tim Paine and he too has some attacking players in his side.

Hobart Hurricanes will certainly miss the calming presence of George Bailey, but still have plenty of firepower in their side. Aiden Blizzard, Ben Dunk and Shoaib Malik will form the crux of their batting attack, while Doug Bollinger, Ben Hilfenhaus and Xavier Doherty will aim to inflict damage with the ball. Paine will lead the side in Bailey’s absence, and it’ll be interesting to see how their team reacts to their new leader.

It may not be a knockout match, but both teams will look to start with a win so that they can carry the momentum in the remaining games. A winning team is a happier team, and questions start popping up in the minds of players’ and management when their team loses two to three matches in a row.
