Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the fourth and final day of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16 Group B encounter between Mumbai and Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. Mumbai are currently the hot favourites to finish with an outright victory in the match, after gaining a massive 415-run first-innings lead. Punjab were batting on a score of 244 for the loss of four wickets at the end of Day 3, with their hopes pinned on the unbeaten duo of Mandeep Singh Himanshu Chawla, who were batting on scores of 82 and 31 respectively. The Mumbai bowling department, on the other hand, will go for the kill in order to complete a comprehensive victory and lay their fingers on as many points as possible.
Live cricket score Punjab 403 | Overs 127.2 | Batting: Varun Khanna 0(9): That’s it! Punjab’s spirited second innings effort ends in failure as they fall short of making Mumbai bat again by 12 runs. It’s an innings win for Mumbai and that takes their tally of points to eight. Akhil Herwadkar was Punjab’s primary nemesis in the second innings taking six wickets for 52 runs and fittingly even took the final wicket just in time to give Mumbai the bonus point of an innings victory.
Live cricket score Punjab 373/8 | Overs 118 | Batting: Gitansh Khera 67(98), Barinder Singh Sran 4(10): Punjab are trailing by about 40 runs and they have a mere two wickets left to try and fend off an innings defeat. It’s going to be an interesting fight. At this stage it looks almost certain that Mumbai will win but it remains to be seen if they can get the win without having to bat again.
Live cricket score Punjab 340/6 | Overs 104 | Batting: Gitansh Khera 46(57), Siddharth Kaul 2(2): Mumbai have finally managed to see the back of Mandeep Singh. This is a crucial point in the game for Mumbai and they’re back on track to win the match. Mandeep scored a fabulous 116 but has been taken out by Akhil Herwadkar. Punjab are still trailing by 75 runs and have four wickets in hand.
Live cricket score Punjab 318/5 | Overs 98 | Batting: Mandeep Singh 109(187), Gitansh Khera 33(44): What a knock by Mandeep Singh it has been, Punjab need him out there and they’ll be equally desperate about Gitansh Khera battling out till as far as possible. Mumbai will be quite desperate by now. They need someone to step up and put in the extra effort right now.
Live cricket score Punjab 261/4 | Overs 82 | Batting: Mandeep Singh 91(144), Himanshu Chawla 39(75): Punjab have done well so far to deny Mumbai the added confidence from an early wicket. Mandeep Singh has batted really well and Himanshu Chawla has also looked quite steady so far. The emphasis needs to be on maximising this partnership. But Mumbai need all of two wickets to expose the lower order and may not have hit the panic buttons just yet.
Mumbai declared their first innings on a mammoth score of 569 after the loss of eight wickets, guided mainly by the exploits of Shreyas Iyer (200) and Aditya Tare (137 not out). Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with a useful 78, while Dhawal Kulkarni’s useful 42 helped Mumbai gain a lead in excess of 400.
