New Zealand will take the field on the third day with a sense of confidence as they are on top of the contest at the moment but Sri Lanka’s psyche will have taken a definite boost after their gritty fight against New Zealand. Kane Williamson has become only the second New Zealand batsman to score over 1,000 Test runs in a calendar year after Brendon McCullum achieved the feat last year. Williamson is currently averaging an astonishing 94.54 in 2015! How good has he been?

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: NZ 171/1 in 48 overs; BATTING: Tom Latham 72(128), Kane Williamson 48(82): New Zealand have finished stumps with a dominant lead of 308. They are primed for victory in this Test. Latham batted very well today and was seeing the ball with great clarity. Even the shots he played away from the body were middled mostly. Williamson was his sedate best and was content to work the field for frequent singles, finishing the day two short of a fifty and inching towards a career batting average of the same figure.

Kane Williamson is at his best and nothing has changed there. Tom Latham hos gone past fifty and is looking very good even though the conditions are a little bit overcast. Sri Lanka’s bowlers are getting the ball to swing but the accuracy has been on the poorer side.

New ball being taken by skipper Angelo Mathews seems odd.Guptill will look to start afresh and carry his run scoring form. Latham on the other hand will want to make it large, as he has been short of runs since a long time.

This morning has belonged to New Zealand with their fast bowlers Neil Wagner, Tim Southee, Trent Boult striking. Sri Lanka will now look to get New Zealand out for less than 200 with the lead of 137.

Herath survived 67 balls, including a barrage of bouncers from Wagner and Doug Bracewell.This is Wagner’s third wicket of the innings. Sri Lanka are very much in trouble trailing New Zealand by 158 runs more.


LIVE CRICKET SCORE: SL 262/7 in 106 overs ; BATTING: Dushmantha Chameera 6(21),Rangana Herath 12(61): LUNCH Tim Southee picked up two wickets in his first two overs of the day, dismissing Dinesh Chandimal and Kithuruwan Vithanage, but the Sri Lankan team did put up a  Milinda Siriwardana and Rangna Herath had a little but important stand of 43. Herath was hit by few bouncers.

New Zealand bowlers have looked to bowl everything short. Rangana Herath has had a few deliveries hitting him on the body , with one also hitting the helmet.

Siriwardana has so far in his innings hit some few good boundaries.Doug Bracewell and Neil Wagner have bowled line and length to the batsmen with Sri Lanka looking to get as close to New Zealand total. Herath has looked stiff as it is cold and windy out their.Wagner is bowling short to Herath as he has looked to be in a bit of trouble with one also hitting the finger.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: SL 221/6 in 90 overs ; BATTING: Milinda Siriwardana 12(27),Rangana Herath 0(19) : It has been a bad morning for the visitors looking their over-night batsmen Dinesh Chandimal and Dimuth Karunaratne in a span of two overs. Chandimal missed out on a well deserved hundred. Trent Boult and Tim Southee has looked more dangerous of the bowlers.Doug Bracewell has been called into bowl.

Vithange played well for his 56 ball 22. Sri Lanka in the early few overs have lost both their over-night batsmen. BJ Walting has also picked 5 catches in the match out the six.

Chandimal edges it behind to  Martin Guptill .Sri Lanka would want to get past New Zealand total as soon as possible. New Zealand on the have started well with Southee picking up Chandimal. Sri Lanka trail New Zealand by 233 runs. It is a cold and windy morning as people have come in all ducked in their warmers and sweaters.

Early on Day 2, New Zealand’s tail wagged a little bit and took the team total to a formidable 431. The bowlers received good amount of purchase from the pitch and looked to cash in. They did so effectively in the opening overs by taking two quick wickets. However, Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal then built a solid partnership to defy the charged up New Zealand bowlers. The stand put up 122 runs before Mitchell Santner was rewarded for his persistent accuracy with the wicket of a well settled Karunaratne after he added 84 runs. Chandimal went on to bat till the close of play and reached stumps with 83 runs to his name. Skipper Angelo Mathews fell cheaply to Tim Southee but Vithanage gave Chandimal adequate support thereafter. They will look for another big partnership on Day Three to push New Zeland’s back towards the walls. Day Three of the game promises to be an exciting affair. New Zealand are on top but a Sri Lanka resurgence can not be ruled out.
