Good morning! Hello and welcome to CricketCountry‘s live coverage of Day Four of the first Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the University Oval, Dunedin. I am Vishal Mehra along with Rishad D’Souza, and we will be bringing you the live updates from this game. The present scenario suggests that New Zealand are well on top. Sri Lanka will have to exhibit great resilience to avert defeat. While that is a threat to New Zealand’s chances in itself, the hosts will be more concerned about the weather. There was substantial rain delay on Day Four and if the rain gods are angry, the match will be drawn. Live Cricket Scorecard: New Zealand vs Sri Lanka 2015-16, 1st Test at Dunedin

New Zealand start the day as firm favorites to win the Test by taking remaining seven Sri Lankan wickets. Sri Lanka will on the other hand bank on Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews to to chase down the remaining 296 required or at best drawing the match. Yesterday was a day of frustration for the players as rain and hail storm halted play three times.

New Zealand set Sri Lanka a stiff lead of 405 before declaring the innings. Sri Lanka actually made a very promising start to their innings with the first partnership going past the fifty-run mark. However the New Zealand seamers persisted and got a couple of wickets soon after. Dimuth Karunaratne was the first to fall and Jayasundera fell soon after.

Later after a bit of a partnership with Dinesh Chandimal fell to Tim Southee and just at about that point the rain got too heavy enough for the players to have to leave field and then it did not clear soon enough for play to start again. Tim Southee picked two wickets while Neil Wagner got the only other wicket to fall in the innings so far. Trent Boult will be looking to pick a few wickets too.
