New Zealand have taken 1-0 lead in the two-Test series after a comprehensive 122-run win in the first Test at Dunedin. New Zealand were right on top throughout the game after putting up 431 runs on the board in their first innings. Martin Guptill returned to from in the longest format as he struck a brilliant 156 in the first innings. Kane Williamson continued his good run of form and struck a mature 88 and 71 in the match, thereby crossing the 1,000-run mark in 2015. Chandimal has taken on the opposition and smashed three boundaries of one over from Bracewell. Jayasundera is hanging in there with Chandimal as lunch is just moments away.

Mendis has struck a couple of boundaries and has looked confident after being let off earlier. Karunaratne is just hanging in there. Good news for Sri Lanka is that they have not lost a single wicket as yet.

They will hope that the dropped catch does not cost them much.

New Zealand have decided that they will not mess with the winning combination and are going in with the same playing XI for this match as well. There were talks that they might play an extra spinner. But having done a quick inspection of the pitch, New Zelaand have desided against it.

Guptill and Williamson put on 173 runs for the second wicket in the first innings, which put New Zealand in a dominant position initially. Brendon McCullum then smashed a 57-ball 75 and Doug Bracewell chipped in with 47 batting low down the order. Nuwan Pradeep struck four times, but could not restrict New Zealand under 400. Sri Lanka, to their credit gave a decent fight. Nobody other than Dimuth Karunaratne (84) and Dinesh Chandimal (83) played well in their first innings. Milinda Siriwardana scored 35 batting at No. 7 to help Sri Lanka get close to the 300-run mark. Sri Lanka conceded a 137-run first innings lead.

New Zealand in their second innings scored at a brisk pace to ensure that they declared at 267 for 3, courtesy of a century by Tom Latham. Sri Lanka were set a target of 405 in the fourth innings, but the managed to get only 282. Chandimal again the lone fighter for Sri Lanka with a half-century.
