Greetings! Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the fifth and final ODI between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Mount Maunganui. This is Rishad D’Souza, to be joined later by Amit Banerjee, and we will bring you frequent updates from what promises to be a thrilling match. The match will be a decider to the extent that either New Zealand can win the series 3-1 or Sri Lanka could obtain a 2-2 draw. The series has witnessed three lopsided games so far and one game was washed out. To make up for that, it would be great to see an absolutely thrilling contest in the final game. OUT! Much needed wicket for the Black Caps! Brings an end to the fine 62-run stand that brought the Lankans back into the game in the first place. The visitors are certainly not out of contention for levelling the series yet, given the presence of Angelo Mathews in the 80s at the crease. Chamara Kapugedera is the next batsman at the crease, and shows his intent with a six off the final ball of the 43rd over bowled by Santner. OUT! Kapugedera’s brief sojourn comes to an end as he is caught by Milne at deep fine-leg off a top-edge while attempting a pull. OUT! Mathews is looking set to complete his century, one that he hopes will be for a winning cause, while Siriwardana moves into the 30s with a straight boundary off the last ball of the 40th over!

Live Cricket Score Sri Lanka 161/5 in 34.2 overs | Target 295 | Batting: Angelo Mathews 65(85), Milinda Siriwardana 0(0): Things are getting ugly for Sri Lanka. Perera departs for 15. He attempts a slog off a length delivery bowled by Adam Milne, but is not able to make contact with the ball as he had expected. Jerome Taylor takes an easy catch at the cover region. Set batsman Dinesh Chandimal gets out just after getting to his fifty. Chandimal tries to slog a Trent Boult’s ball but is not able to get the horizontal elevation right . The ball goes high in the air and Kane Williamson takes the catch at mid-off area. Thisara Perera has arrived at the crease after the dismissal of Chandimal. OUT! Dinesh Chandimal c Kane Williamson b Trent Boult 50(65)

Live Cricket Score Sri Lanka 118/3 in 27.2 overs | Target 295 | Batting: Dinesh Chandimal 43(57), Angelo Mathews 45(64): Both, Chandimal and Mathews are nearing their half centuries. Mathews has hit four while Chandimal has struck three fours. Chandimal has also struck a six in his innings so far. They still have a long way to go. Sri Lanka now requires 177 runs from 136 deliveries.

Live Cricket Score Sri Lanka 95/3 in 23.3 overs | Target 295 | Batting: Dinesh Chandimal 40(50), Angelo Mathews 26(48): Dinesh Chandimal’s and Angelo Mathews’ partnership is now worth 62 runs. They have added those many runs in 86 deliveries. Sri Lanka would want this partnership to grow and blossom. They now need exactly 200 from 159 balls. Task is tough but not herculean; the Lankans pulled off a win in the last ODI due to some really good batting and with some help from poor bowling by the Black Caps. They will want that feat to be repeated.

Live Cricket Score Sri Lanka 77/3 in 20.5 overs | Target 295 | Batting: Dinesh Chandimal 28(40), Angelo Mathews 21(40): Both Chandimal and Mathews are batting sensibly and with discipline. They are dealing in singles and doubles mostly while trying to score big only on lose deliveries. They now require 218 runs to win from 175 balls with seven wickets in hand. Milinda Siriwardana and Chamara Kapugedera are next in the batting order.

Live Cricket Score Sri Lanka 60/3 in 17.3 overs | Target 295 | Batting: Dinesh Chandimal 16(30), Angelo Mathews 17(33): Sri Lankan batters are trying hard to build a partnership but the kiwis are not letting them circumvent so easily. Dinesh Chanidmal has struck only one while Mathews has hit two boundaries so far. Sri Lanka’s run rate has dipped drastically since the last four overs. The Lankans would be wanting to reach the 150-run mark in moderate time and then look forward to slightly increase their scoring rate. At present keeping wickets in hand is critical and simultaneously keep batting at a decent rate pace.

Live Cricket Score Sri Lanka 43/3 in 12.3 overs | Target 295 | Batting: Dinesh Chandimal 10(20), Angelo Mathews 7(12): Sri Lanka’s skipper Angelo Mathews has come to the middle after the fall of Gunathilaka. Henry again bowls a full length ball outside the off stump, Mathews is fortunate that the ball did not clip the stumps as he attempts a drive but the ball ends up taking an inside edge narrowly missing the wickets and goes towards the fine leg boundary. Sri Lanka would need n more luck to win this game.

Live Cricket Score Sri Lanka 33/3 in 9.5 overs | Target 295 | Batting: Dinesh Chandimal 8(16), Angelo Mathews 0(0): Danushka Gunathilaka is caught by Ish Sodhi off a Matt Henry’s delivery. Gunathilaka attempts to slog a ball bowled outside the off stump but is not able to get his timing right. As he was early in the execution of the shot, he did not middle the ball well. It was not a bad shot but execution was the problem. The ball soars into the sky and Ish Sodhi at mid-on region makes no mistake. Sri Lanka is in trouble now. OUT! Danushka Gunathilaka c Ish Sodhi b Matt Henry 15(36)

Live Cricket Score Sri Lanka 25/2 in 4.4 overs | Target 295 | Batting: Danushka Gunathilaka 11(17), Dinesh Chandimal 6(4): Sri Lanka have lost two quick wickets early on in the match. Lahiru Thirimanne and Tillakaratne Dilshan are back in the dugout. Chasing a hefty score, this was the least the Lankans wanted. They need a good partnership now. Live Cricket Score New Zealand 294/5 in 50 overs | Batting: Luke Ronchi 37(31), Mitchell Santner 21(11): It was starting to look very grim for the Kiwis about how the death overs were shaping, but Mitchell Santner pulls the momentum back in favour of the Black Caps with a couple of massive hits in the final over to take New Zealand to 294. The chase will be very interesting.

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 265/5 in 47 overs | Batting: Luke Ronchi 28(23), Mitchell Santner 1(1): Ross Taylor has been dismissed for a crucial 67-ball 61. Sri Lanka will be very happy about that breakthrough. Mitchell Santner is now out to accompany Luke Ronchi. Taylor was done in by the slower ball from Kulasekara. OUT! Ross Taylor 61(67) c Siriwardana b Kulasekara

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 216/4 in 41 overs | Batting: Ross Taylor 43(54), Luke Ronchi 0(1): It’s not coming along very well for the Kiwis in these crucial death overs. Henry Nicholls has been dismissed for two after a 7-ball struggle. Luke Ronchi is the new man in, it must be remembered that he has been in pathetic form of late. OUT! Henry Nicholls 2(7) c Dilshan b Kulasekara

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 208/3 in 39 overs | Batting: Ross Taylor 38(49), Henry Nicholls 1(1): That’s the end of Guptill’s innings at the most inopportune time. he looked well set to up the ante in the finishing overs but has heaved one of Kulasekara straight to long on. Henry Nicholls is the new man at the crease. He’ll need to display some explosive shots later in the innings. OUT! Martin Guptill 102(109) c Perera b Kulasekara

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 198/2 in 37 overs | Batting: Martin Guptill 102(108), Ross Taylor 29(39): It’s ODI hundred No. 10 for Martin Guptill and it’s come at a crucial time for the Kiwis. Now the focus will be to accelerate. Ross Taylor has taken his time to settle out there so with the finishing overs approaching one can expect some fireworks.

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 152/2 in 30 overs | Batting: Martin Guptill 76(88), Ross Taylor 12(17): New Zealand have reached the 150 run-mark at a run rate of just over 5. You feel they’d want to up that a little bit and that they can as long as they have wickets to contend with. Guptill is looking contend to take the singles and Taylor has come out and done a good job of it to. Guptill is looking just a little bit frustrated about not getting the boundaries as frequently as he’d like though.

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 127/2 in 24 overs | Batting: Martin Guptill 62(66), Ross Taylor 1(3): A little bit unlucky and part careless from Kane Williamson. He got a loose ball from Dilshan down leg and looked to pull it but got the glove on it on way to the vigilant keeper Chandimal. It ricocheted of Chandimal’s lower body but he stretched out for the catch and was successful. OUT! Kane Williamson 61(72) c Chandimal b Guptill

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 114/1 in 22 overs | Batting: Martin Guptill 60(63), Kane Williamson 51(66): This partnership is coming along at a nice rate. Both batsmen have fifties now and it is likely they will up the scoring a little bit now. Both batsmen have been sublime in their approach. Williamson got to fifty of his 64th delivery.

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 95/1 in 19 overs | Batting: Martin Guptill 52(56), Kane Williamson 40(55): It’s going slow and steady for New Zealand at the moment. Williamson and Guptill just focussing on rotation of strike and building a big partnership. But at some point they’ll want to attack. Meanwhile, Guptill got to fifty of his 55th ball in the 19th over.

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 73/1 in 15 overs | Batting: Martin Guptill 37(40), Kane Williamson 33(47): The Sri Lankans are doing a good job in keeping the Kiwis tied down. Both batsmen seem to be in fairly good nick but the bowlers are not presenting them with too many scoring opportunities. Nuwan Kulasekara is bowling a tight line and getting troubling swing.

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 45/1 in 9 overs | Batting: Martin Guptill 21(23), Kane Williamson 21(28): It’s been going well for Sri Lanka, they got the quick wicket of Tom Latham early on and have kept these two under check. However, Guptill is starting to look a little more comfortable as is skipper Williamson. Sri Lanka need to keep the screws tightened and build the pressure. OUT! 0(3) c Chandimal b Pradeep

New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Luke Ronchi (wk), Adam Milne, Matt Henry, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult

TOSS UPDATE: Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to bowl first. Conditions look overcast and Sri Lanka looked far more in control chasing, so a good choice.

The big setback for New Zealand is that Brendon McCullum’s back injury which he procured while fielding in the third ODI is more serious than first thought and he will miss out on this game. Tim Southee is also ruled out with a slight niggle. Trent Boult’s return will compensate for that though. New Zealand badly lost the game at Saxton Oval in the third fixture, but they won’t be too short on confidence.

Sri Lanka will be in a good frame of mind given how they beat New Zealand in the previous completed game and had them under the pump for the nine overs of play that were possible in the fourth ODI at Nelson. They will look forward to another big contribution from Tillakaratne Dilshan with the bat. Their bowlers will hope to pull their act together.
