The match is over. Pakistan lose by 93 runs. It was too easy for Australia in the end. Pakistan batting has again disappointment.
Umar Akmal is gone and with him have all the Pakistan hopes have diminished.
OUT! U Akmal b Kane Richardson 46(57)
Umar Akmal has played a sensible game unlike the other batsmen. He hasn’t tried something extraordinary and has played all the genuine shots. While other batsmen just tried to smack out the pressure with a big hit and faltered. Is there still some hope for Pakistan? Looks bleak but you can never rule out until this lad Akmal is there. Another wicket, Mitchell Johnson strikes.
OUT!! Anwar Ali c Haddin b Johnson 8(21)
The big wicket Shahid Afridi has been dismissed by the debutant Sean Abbott. The match looks out of reach now. Umar Akmal needed someone to stick with him but Afridi looked in a hurry and gave away his wicket.
Afridi c Faulkner b Abbott 5(7)

Nathan Lyon and Glenn Maxwell are bowling together and spinning the wall with ease. The Sharjah wicket has come out with lot of spin. Pakistan would be surely missing Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal at this moment. And now Maxwell picks up a wicket. Alam cuts a spinning delivery and Warner dives to take a stunning catch .
OUT! Fawad Alam c Warner b Maxwell 7(25)
Mitchell Johnson picked the wicket of Asad Shafiq after the Lyon magic. Shafiq was stuck at the non-striker’s end for a long time and got out when he was exposed. Akmal has looked sublime this over. These two have to stay there to help Pakistan chase the total.
Nathan Lyon has done the job for Australia with his off-spin. First, he gets the dangerous Sarfaraz Ahmed and Misbah-ul-Haq next. Fawad Alam survives the hat-trick ball. The equation has totally changed in a single over. Lyon finishes a double-wicket maiden.
OUT! Sarfraz Ahmed c Haddin b Lyon 34(41) and OUT! Misbah c Warner b Lyon 0(1)
Ahmed is turning it on. He is looking in supreme form. The 93m six on the bowling of James Faulkner was out of the ground. Now, another flick of Faulkner. Sarfaraz will play a pivotal role today. While , Shafiq has not faced much deliveries yet.

Shafiq and Ahmed need to get some inspiration from Warner and Smith. If they continue with the singles and doubles it would give there team a solid base to get the total in the end.

Pakistan have made a quiet start to their innings. It was a surprise to see Sarfaraz Ahmed who came in to open the batting. Mitchell Johnson has done the trick. Shehzad tried to flash hard at a delivery which was far. It was a easy catch for Haddin behind the stumps. Johnson is bowling well but Pakistan batsmen seem to be in some hurry. They just don’t stop fishing outside off-stump. Shafiq just escaped a edge now.
OUT!Ahmed Shehzad c S Smith b Johnson 4(10)

The innings which was built with patience by David Warner and Steven Smith kept a few runs short. But Australia would be happy with a total above 250 given the form of Pakistan batsmen.
Faulkner was looking uneasy and this was on the cards. Afridi picks up another wicket .Faulkner challenged the decision of the umpire but it was clearly hitting the middle stump. Faulkner took 20 balls to get his 11 runs.

Three overs of the powerplay down. Australia have played them like a Test match. They need to up the momentum. The final overs can be really frisky. Yes, there comes the first come. Smith is listening to me. And he smacks this one over Babar. Can this be a 10-15 run over? He picks a single. Now up to Faulkner to do some slogging. But he to passes on a single.

Only 12 four and four sixes have been hit in 35 overs. And to get some Australia have sensibly opted for a batting powerplay. Anwar Ali comes on to bowl the first over of the powerplay. Four bowls down, it has come out as a good over. Dot ball from Ali, the slower one.
Smith has taken charge of the Australian innings. Maxwell has looked rusty so far. He has tried his slog hits but missed on many occasions. Australia are heading towards a 250 plus score but somebody needs to give the Australian team a move on . It will be interesting to see how Pakistan bowl in the delicate ending. Babar comes onto bowl and gets Maxwell. Finally, someone manages to catch the ball after few drops. Babar bowled up consistently, he deserved this wicket.
OUT!Maxwell c Irfan b Babar 21(23)
Finally, Fawad Alam does the job for his captain. George Bailey smacked a six and looked dangerous. But Alam got the wicket, it was a good catch from Afridi too. Afridi comes on to bowl. Maxwell is in trouble this over. First, he was dropped by the wicket-keeper and then he was beaten by the spin. Good follow-up over from Afridi.
Bailey c Afridi b Fawad Alam 18(24)
Australia have done a pretty good job with bat. They have not tried to rush through and take the run-rate flying but instead they have stayed at the crease and have kept niggling singles on most occasions. Shahid Afridi was good with ball but the other bowlers have just not been able to get wickets.

Shahid Afridi was brought back into the attack after the Australian batsmen were taking the match away from Pakistan. He got Warner on the first ball of his second over. Finally, Warner goes back to the pavilion when he was just nearing his half-century. He comes back and bowls another good length quicker delivery, George Bailey gets it hit on his pads. Afridi shouts for a Lbw but umpire turns it down. Pakistan players ask for review. It’s inside edge. Bailey is saved.
OUT!Warner c U Akmal b Afridi 43(63)

Anwar Ali is drafted in to bowl some pace. He is running in hard and putting the ball deep into Sharjah pitch. Only 1 runs off the first four balls. Ali bowls a ball on the leg-side, Warner tries to flick it but the balls stands up in the air and safely finds the gap between mid-on and mid-wicket. Two runs. Now, Warner gets a edge and is rewarded by a boundary towards third man region. A decent first over which was ruined by some lucky hits by Warner. Babar will continue now. Smith comes out and slices it. He will get a boundary on the first ball. But Babar did the right thing by flighting it in. Smith picks up a single after getting stuck at the crease for three balls after getting the boundary. Warner picks a single of the last ball. End of the over from Babar.
The bowling has been tight so far. Riaz and Irfan have come together as a pair and kept it tight. Riaz will come and bowl now. He bowls four good deliveries but sprays it down the leg-side and concedes a drive. Second boundary comes up. Smith drives it with fashion towards the cover boundary. Riaz has been good but not consistent. Dot ball ends the over. six runs of this over. Pakistan have to keep thinking about the next bowler to keep this pressure. No Saeed Ajmal and no Hafeez. Who will bowl now? Yes, debutant. Zulfiqar Babar comes on to bowl left-arm spin. Leg-slip for him. Warner ticks the second delivery for a single near the square-leg region. Smith comes back to strike. Leg slip still on. Floats it in, Smith plays it softly. He gets it away for a single. Two balls remaining. Babar floats in onto the leg stumps, ball is taken by the leg slip fielder. Huge shout for Lbw. But umpire puts it down. Two runs of this Babar over.
Riaz will bowl his third over. Bowls the first delivery on the full on the pads but Warner fails to put it away. Three good length balls and Warner plays next three deliveries with ease. He gets a boundary on the next ball. Total of six runs from the over. Irfan has come on to bowl the 7th over. He has been quite impressive with his line and length. Runs in and bowls four tight balls. Smith ticks the penultimate ball of the over for a quick single. The last ball slides down the leg-side, Warner fails to get a touch on it. But still they will get leg–byes. So another tight over. Two runs of this over.
Smith finally breaks the economical net sprayed by Irfan. Gets a boundary of the first ball. Irfan comes back good and bowls beautiful length deliveries right on the target.Four runs off the over.
Wahab Riaz will bowl the fourth over. Again bowls short and David Warner smacks it for four runs to mid-wicket boundary. Come back good in the next ball, Warner plays it with soft hands. The last ball is also played by Warner with a straight bat and ends the over. 5 runs of this one from Riaz. He is leaking all the runs at the moment.
Mohammad Irfan bowled a disciplined first over. Picked up a wicket and conceded no runs. Waha Riaz bowled the second over and gave away 5 runs of it. Warner clobbered a wide ball for a boundary in the Riaz over. Iran is handed his second over. And again he is on the mark. No runs again. The second maiden over from Mohammad Irfan. The flow of runs have stopped.
Mohammad Irfan opens the bowling and gets wicket on the very first ball. Aaron Finch walk back to the pavilion.

TOSS : George Bailey wins the toss and elects to bat first. Pakistan will bowl first.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the first One-Day International (ODI) between Pakistan and Australia at Sharjah. I am Varun Arora and I will be bringing the live updates of the match. Pakistan are without the services of key players such as Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Hafeez. While Ajmal has been suspended from international cricket following his bowling action being found to be illegal, Hafeez is nursing a hand injury. Australia will aim to maintain their momentum which they gained after an easy win in the solitary Twenty20 (T20) encounter, while Pakistan o the other hand will hope to get things on an even keel. Read the preview of the match here.

George Bailey will replace Aaron Finch as the captain for the ODI’s but they will miss the service of Shane Watson and Michael Clarke who have been ruled out of the ODI series after suffering from injuries. Mitchell Marsh who missed out of the T20I due to a hamstring injury in Champions League T20 (CLT20) is likely to be back with team for ODIs.

Pakistan will need to do a lot of thinking before step out to play the first ODI. There batting lacked maturity, thinking and they totally failed to anchor there batting after winning the toss. The batting looks pretty good on the paper but they have failed to justify the talent on the field. Saad Nasim who carried his good form from CLT20 scored the highest runs but he is not included in the ODI squad.

Squads:

Pakistan: Misbah-ul-Haq (c), Ahmed Shehzad, Sohaib Maqsood, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk), Shahid Afridi, Raza Hasan, Mohammad Hafeez,Umar Akmal, Fawad Alam, Umar Amin, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Irfan, Anwar Ali, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan.

Australia: George Bailey(c), James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin (wk), Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Johnson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner, Sean Abbott.
