The last ODI broke every possible record as England went on to score 444 for the loss of just three wickets which opened up the vulnerability of Pakistan’s bowling unit. England demolished the visitors by a whopping margin of 169 runs in a run-fest at Trent Bridge. Winning the toss and batting first, everything went in accordance with the home side as they performed exceptionally well in all the departments. Alex Hales, Joe Root, Jos Butler and Eoin Morgan all made sure that Pakistan paid a heavy price for the indecent bowling.

One must also not just keep on criticising Pakistan for their subdued bowling; England batsmen punished the loose balls but it was also backed by some power hitting bowling from the hosts. The form which the England batsmen displayed at Trent Bridge, is something which was missing in recent times and  it came as a shock for everyone they way they batted out. Pakistani bowlers on the other side, could not capitalise on the early occasions they after England lost Jason Roy. They made batting very easy for Hales and Root as they went on hitting some beautiful strokes throughout the ground. The visitors’ bowling department should have tried sticking to their basics after they were being hit all over the park. It seemed like they had their guns surrendered against the power hitting of Morgan and Butler.

It was the partnership of Butler and Morgan that saw the game going away from Pakistan. Pakistan needs to make drastic changes to their bowling after what they have been through in the third ODI. Umar Gul who was called into the ODI squad only played the first ODI and was later dropped for the next two. Dropping someone like Gul from the playing XI did not yield any good for visitors as they subsequently lost the other two ODI’s as well.

Wahab Riaz was the only centurion for Pakistan but unluckily for the wrong innings. He conceded 110 in his 10 overs without any wicket which shows how much poor bowling he did.

Apart from this visitors also have lot to do when it comes to their batting. They played well in the first ODI, but their batting woes were put on display in the second ODI as only four batsman managed to score runs in double figures out of which Sarfraz Ahmed scored a century which helped they to put a target of 253 for hosts.

However, Pakistan must know that scores between 250 and 275 are not going to be enough against a line-up like England’s. England has a very strong team on and off paper and that has been reflective in the matches played. Pakistan will have to go all guns blazing in the reminder of the series and display fearless yet responsible batting if they want to stand any chance of winning the last two matches. Azhar Ali, Imad Wasim and even Mohammad Aamer have made half-centuries, while wicket-keeper batsman Ahmed has been their best batsman with scores of 55, 105 and 38 in the series so far.

Pakistan will also have to worry about their senior players not stepping up for the tasks. They have senior players like Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul to step up; especially Malik as lot depends on him as he forms the Pakistani batting middle order. Also Malik should come out to bat as early as he can as that can relieve some pressure of the other batsmen. Malik has constantly batted at No. 6 which is not suiting his batting style. With so much of experience on his back Malik also knows well about the wickets in England. So he will have to come out to bat early to make sure that he can provide the missing stability to Pakistan’s batting.

Having said all this, the remaining two ODI’s will serve as a chance for Pakistan to show their capacities and to show their cricket playing credentials after losing the series well before. Pakistan have long cricket season ahead of them as they will be playing against the likes of West Indies, Australia after England. So it is necessary for them to bounce back as they have a glorious chance lying ahead of them with nothing to lose as such.

England on the other hand will GO FOR KILL! They have their momentum riding high after the series win and they will look to grasps on the opportunity to win the two matches remaining and complete a white wash. If England go on to win the remaining two matches, it will be a perfect revenge for them against Pakistan after they had to draw the four match Test series at 2-2.

They have been bold in their batting and tidy in the bowling, if that is how we can sum up their victories so far. Their bowlers from Mark Wood to Adil Rashid have been taking wickets at regular intervals providing the necessary breakthrough. Their batting on the other side has accelerated their speeds at their own wish and that is why they have looked in command throughout. They have also shown variations in their bowing at regular intervals which is why they kept the Pakistani batsmen guessing in all the games.

With England leading the series 3-0, they might rest a few players and give a chance to batsman Johnny Bairstow who was in good form during the Test series and can also see some changes in the fast bowling department as Chris Jordan might make way in the playing XI. Pakistan on the other side will have to think, think and think about how they can get back to winning ways and will have to make the necessary changes to form the correct composition to face the strong England side.
