Abu Dhabi: Feb 15, 2012

England take on Pakistan in the second One-Day International (ODI) match at Abu Dhabi on Wednesday after thrashing the hosts by 130 runs in the first ODI.

Earlier captain Alastair Cook won toss and asked Pakistan to bowl in second ODI. The hosts rebounded from their humiliating Test showing with a comprehensive 130-run victory in the first day-night international here on Monday.

England rode on a brilliant skipper’s knock of 137 by Alastair Cook — his best in one-day internationals — and Ravi Bopara’s 50 to cruise to 260-7 in their 50 overs. Patel gave the finishing touches with a brisk 17 not out.

Paceman Steven Finn then rocked Pakistan with a burst of 4-34, his career best, before Patel took 3 for 26 with his left-arm spin to bowl their rivals out for a mere 130.

The hosts would be hoping for an improved performance in the second ODI. Experienced batsman Younis Khan hopes Pakistan do not panic and try their best to bounce back against a resurgent England in the second day-night international on Wednesday.

Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, who took 24 wickets in the preceding 3-0 Test series win, grabbed a career-best 5-43 but England still managed a challenging total.

“We couldn’t cash on the two wickets by (Shahid) Afridi but still we should have got that total. England bowled the first 10 overs well, they outclassed us and Finn was very impressive,” said Younis, who made 15.

For Pakistan, Afridi top-scored with 38 as they were bowled out in 35 overs.

Younis praised Cook’s knock.

“When the captain of the team plays like this the whole team is inspired and Cook’s knock lifted England so we have to match them in their body language and performance,” said Younis.
