Pakistan take on a strong South African side in the first game of their five-match One-Day International series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on Wednesday.

South African captain AB de Villiers won the toss and elected to bat.

Paceman Dale Steyn will miss the first two of the five-match one-day series against Pakistan to rest his body, South Africa team management said a few days ago.

The 30-year-old Steyn featured in the second Test, which South Africa won by an innings and 92 runs on Saturday, despite suffering from a hamstring injury three days before the match.

Hashim Amla will also be out of the game as he returned home due to the birth of his second child.

Pakistan will be bolstered by the presence of experienced campaigners Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi and Nasir Jamshed.

Squads:

Pakistan:  Ahmed Shehzad, Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Hafeez, Misbah-ul-Haq (c), Umar Amin, Umar Akmal (wk), Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Wahab Riaz, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Irfan

South Africa: Colin Ingram, Graeme Smith, JP Duminy, AB de Villiers (c & wk), Faf du Plessis, David Miller, Ryan McLaren, Wayne Parnell, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir, Lonwabo Tsotsobe
