Pakistan will aim to build a strong first-innings lead against South Africa after producing a strong batting performance on the second day of the opening Test at Abu Dhabi.
Khurram Manzoor’s unbeaten 131 helped Pakistan take a 14-run lead at the end of Day Two.
The opening stand of 135 between Manzoor and debutant Shan Masood set a solid platform for Pakistan. The Pakistan opening duo batted with confidence as South African bowlers failed to extract anything out of the lifeless track the Sheik h Zayed Stadium.
The pace bowlers failed to get the early breakthrough while the frontline left-arm spinner Robin Peterson was dealt with quite easily.
Masood scored his maiden half-century off 102 deliveries but fell to part-time spinner JP Duminy for 75. Manzoor looked confident and took on the South African attack with ease.
Brief scores:
South Africa 249 (Hashim Amla 118, Jean Paul Duminy 57; Zulfiqar Babar 3 for 89) trail Pakistan 263 for 3 (Khurram Manzoor 131*, Shan Masood 75; Morne Morkel 1 for 23) by 14 runs.
