Angelo Mathews‘s monumental feats with the bat saved Sri Lanka from certain defeat in the First Test at Abu Dhabi. The Sri Lankan captain, here, won the toss on Day One and put Pakistan to bat and his bowlers, led by Rangana Herath and Nuwan Pradeep vindicated his decision by bowling out Pakistan for a paltry 165.
In the last session of the day, opener Dimuth Karunaratne stroked an array of boundaries before the lynchpin of Pakistan’s bowling attack, Junaid Khan trapped him in front towards the end of day’s play.
Earlier in the day, Khurram Manzoor held fort and painstakingly crafted 73 runs despite wickets falling at regular intervals for Pakistan.
