Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the first day’s action from second Test between West Indies and Pakistan at Bridgetown, Barbados. I am Rohan Sawant and I will be bringing you live updates of the day’s play. Despite rain playing a spoilsport, Pakistan romped home to a 7-wicket win in the first Test at Kingston, Jamaica. Yasir Shah was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, ending the match with 8 wickets, including 6 for 63 in the second innings, which earned him the Player of the Match award. Pakistan legends Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq achieved a couple of landmarks during the first Test. Younis became the first Paistan batsmen to go past 10,000 runs and Misbah became only the sixth to be stranded on 99. In the process, he also completed 5,000 runs in Tests. Full Cricket Scorecard: Pakistan vs West Indies 2nd Test at Barbados

The first Test saw three debutants – two from West Indies and one from Pakistan. West Indies roped in Vishaul Singh and Shimron Hetmyer, while an injury to Hasan Ali handed fast bowler Mohammad Abbas his first Test. A win in this match will hand Pakistan the series, but West Indies did play well in patches in the first match and will look to put in an improved performance in this Test. They have the likes of Jermaine Blackwood and Miguel Cummins on the bench to pick from. It will be interesting to see if Pakistan hand a Test debut to leg-spinner Shadab Khan, after the youngster impressed everyone in the limited-overs fixtures. Pakistan vs West Indies 2017, 2nd Test at Barbados: Preview

Hasan Ali is now doubtful for the entire Test series and as a result we might see Abbas getting a second game. Abbas bowled very well on his debut, picking up 3 wickets, eventually. Pakistan have named a cover for the fast bowler though. Pakistan’s batting seems to be steady at the moment and it is highly doubtful that they will tinker with that, unless they want to play an extra bowler.

Live Updates

  • 3:08 AM IST

So that is stumps on Day 1. West Indies have posted 286 losing 6 wickets. Chase and Holder added 120 runs in the evening session at around 3.43 runs per over. What a day for Chase this has been. Playing in front of his home crowd and scoring a century!

Pakistan – a completely frustrated side and completely contrasting to how they started the day!

Well that is the beauty of Test cricket, is it not!

But definitely, a stage set for a classic encounter here on Day 2. So that will be it from today and see you tomorrow.

Till then bye take care! 🙂

  • 2:51 AM IST

6th Test fifty for Jason Holder. The West Indies skipper continues to frustrate Pakistan as the day enters it ending stage. Not only he has scored his fifty but playing along with Chase, the skipper has now ensured of putting West Indies in a top position as the day ends.
Class act from West Indies and Holder!

  • 2:40 AM IST

This is turning out to be a frustrating session for Pakistan. Despite taking the new ball things are going away from them. Both the batsmen have utilised the pace of Aamer and Abbas very well. Moreover, with the tired legs of fielders around, runs are leaking here.

But again, a wicket in these last few overs, and the momentum will shift towards Pakistan!

  • 2:25 AM IST

But this is going to be some testing period for Chase and Holder. New ball has been taken and Misbah without wasting any moment has straight away opted for Mohammad Aamer. He wants at least 1 wicket before the day ends or that is just going to increase more frustration on teammisbah.
    Furstrating times ahead otherwise!

  • 2:23 AM IST

100 – run partnership between Roston Chase and Jason Holder. Excellent batting by these two. Pakistan were the dominating side when they came in to bat in the 3rd session. But they have played with both attacking and defensive intent and not opting for any rash shots!

  • 1:55 AM IST
  • 1:53 AM IST

There it is! Roston Chase has scored his 2nd Test century and at what time. A patient knock from Chase throughout. He waited for the bad balls not forcing himself into anything. He knew the team’s condition when he came out and knew what was at stake.
He is the man for West Indies when in Peril!

  • 1:30 AM IST

There is some injury concern for Yasir here. He is lying on the ground. What happened here is that he tried to stop the ball and slipped in the process and in this the ball glided near his wrong area. The physio was out to help, but nothing much you can do about that pain! 😀

  • 1:27 AM IST

Yasir Shah has not been that productive in this first innings. He has bowled well wide of the off stump line and this has enabled Chase and Holder free their arms if not for boundaries then at least of singles and doubles. There was some turn in the first sessionm but as the game has progressed, the turn has just killed itself! 😛

  • 1:10 AM IST

Pakistan, on the other hand, will be looking to get one vital wicket here. One wicket and the entire game changes for them. With the last session in play if they take one wicket they’ll look to pounce on the opportunity of cleaning up the entire West Indies innings on Day 1 and start on a dominating position from Day 2. Aamer and Abbas’ role will be important with the new ball and also Misbah would be aware of the problem they might get into if Chase and Holder put up a good stand here for the 7th wicket.

And certainly, they will look to avoid it given the dominance they have maintained throughout the previous 2 sessions!

  • 1:06 AM IST

The entire hope of putting up some runs on the board remain on the shoulders of these two batsmen – Jason Holder and Roston Chase. They will first of all have to ensure of not letting any other wicket fall or else the entire West Indies tail will open up. If they both bat till the end of this last session of the day, they can take their team to at least 230. There’s no hurry as such for them to score runs. So they should take their time!

  • 12:00 AM IST

Shadab Khan has taken his first Test wicket. Shane Dowrich is the man. Tossed up legbreak from Shadab and Dowrich stretches forward to defend. But gets beaten in turn and Younis Khan takes a low dying catch at first slip. 47-run stand finally broken!

  • 11:45 PM IST

Pakistan have asked for a review here against Dowrich off Aamer’s bowling. The ball was pitching well outside off and going way down the leg side. It looked not out straight away but not sure why Aamer urged Misbah to take a review! A review wasted for pakistan!

  • 11:43 PM IST

Shadab Khan is yet to get a wicket yet. The change in format has also changed the approach of batsmen towards him. No risks and no nonsense from West Indies. This is what they actually need at the moment!

  • 11:34 PM IST

This partnership is turning out to be a good one for West Indies. Both Chase and Dowrich are scoring runs at ease despite being 5-down. This partnership is worth 35 runs in 56 deliveries

  • 11:19 PM IST

Roston Chase has completed his fifty. Yet another one in back-to-back games. He is the only thing that is going strong for West Indies otherwise everything else has gone the Pakistan way. Shane Dowrich is at the crease and both Chase and Dowrich will have to do somewhat the same they did at Sabina Park.

  • 11:01 PM IST

Pakistan have pulled back things again. Vishaul Singh has disappointed yet again. A length delivery from Abbas and Vishaul goes at it with the narrow bat. The ball was dying on Younis Khan at slips but he stays low and snaffles a low sharp catch. Good cricket overall!

  • 10:44 PM IST

Mohammad Aamer has got the very important breakthrough. He has dismissed Kieran Powell and that was a special delivery to get rid of him. It was fired in from wide of the crease by Aamer. Took Powell by surprise and he was no place to play it. He tried flicking the ball away but could not and the ball clattered on his pads. On-field umpire turned down the appeal but Pakistan took the review and they have their man!

  • 10:23 PM IST

Roston Chase and Kieran Powell have started the second session very well. Optimistic about their footwork and have played with a lot of positivity. Misbah has kept Shabad constant from one end but nothing that will excite the visitors as of now!

  • 10:02 PM IST

So West Indies have reached 72 for 3 at the end of te 1st session. Roston Chase and Kieran Powell have provided some stability to their innings so far. But just in case if you have missed out on the live action from the first session, here’s the lunch report

  • 9:16 PM IST

Shadab Khan has been introduced but Roston Chase and Kieran Powell are batting sensibly not taking any risks and binding their time!

  • 8:50 PM IST

GONE! Yasir Shah has got the wicket of Shai Hope! Yasir tossed it up and there was turn on the bounce and some zip after it bounces. Hope gets caught in his crease and manages a thick edge which Sarfraz takes neatly!

  • 8:34 PM IST

Runs are coming easy for West indies at the moment. Getting Yasir has not helped Pakistan much and Kieran Powell has looked solid against Yasir – using his feet well dancing down the track a majority of the times. There was a genuine edge from Hope but he adjusted it very well, in the end, guiding the ball well past slip

  • 8:25 PM IST

Yasir is tossing up the ball at the moment but there is no drift for him as of now.

  • 8:24 PM IST

Yasir Shah has been introduced in the attack. And Kieran Powell has decided to dance down the track and hit it over mid on for a boundary. Some attacking strategy from the left-handed batsman to not let Yasir settle in I think!

  • 8:19 PM IST

A big task for West Indies here to sustain themselves in front of a strong bowling attack. The bowling from Abbas and Aamer has been excellent as they have used they are using the conditions perfectly. Swinging the ball both ways.
Aamer deserved the wicket of Brathwaite but Hetmyer just threw it away!
Needless, shot I’d say. there was no need to throw his bat at something going away from him this early in the innings!
