We are left with final two days’ play on this long tour, which also witnessed the two teams play One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) series, both of which were won by Pakistan. The visitors would want to win the Test series as well to complete the treble on this tour. However, that is not going to be easy. At the moment, the Test match hangs in balance. Batting first, Pakistan scored 376 runs in their first innings. Azhar Ali scored a valiant 127, while Babar Azam, Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfraz Ahmed chipped in with fifties. For West Indies, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Devendra Bishoo and Alzarri Joseph picked up 4, 3, 2 and 1 wicket respectively.
In reply, West Indies ended Day Three on 218 for 5, still trailing Pakistan’s first-innings total by 158 runs. Shane Dowrich (20)* and Holder (11)* are battling it out for them at the middle and will resume play on Day Four. Yasir Shah (3 wickets) has been the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan. While things don’t look hunky dory for West Indies, the silver lining is Chase can still come out to bat. West Indies’ top-scorer, Chase retired hurt after scoring 60 when a Mohammed Aamer delivery hit him on his arm.
For Pakistan to win the Test series and wind up the tour with a historic treble, they need quick wickets on Day Four and then a drastic turnaround of things in the third and fourth innings. As for West Indies, saving this Test as well as series should be their primary objective.
