Three quick blows just before stumps on Day Two brought Gujarat back into the match. Railways trail by 219 with 6 wickets in hand, though one of the wickets lost was that of night-watchman Anureet Singh, the hero of Railways bowling. Gujarat, 286 for 6 at the end of Day One, pushed their score to 387 before Railways finished on 168 for 4. Securing a first-innings lead will not be an easy task against RP Singh and Jasprit Bumrah. Gujarat who are in the driver’s seat right now, when they come to bat in their second innings would like to play the first 15 overs and then try to score slightly faster than their first innings run rate of 3.03 so that they can build a healthy lead and it will also give time to their bowlers to bowl out the opposition later on. They need two more runs to avoid a follow on. Railways poor run in this series is continuing. They did start their batting pretty well in this innings but their middle order batters could not capitalise on the good start their openers gave them. OUT! The Gujarat innings began dramatically: resuming at 286 for 6 they lost Manpreet Juneja and RP Singh early; at this stage the score read 297 for 8. But Mehul Patel provided the support Rush Kalaria needed, and together they added a crucial 51. After Mehul’s departure Bumrah batted out 44 balls for his 2, helping Kalaria (80 not out in 123 balls, 11 fours) add another 40. Anureet (4 for 91) was the pick of the bowlers.

Saurabh Wakaskar (93 in 160 balls, 12 fours) and Ashish Singh (36 in 61 balls, 6 fours) added 73 for the opening stand. Wakaskar opened up after Ashish got out, and with Faiz Ahmed providing support, Railways reached 168 for 1. Then came the triple-blow: Wakaskar went first; then Faiz, in the following over; and in the next over, Anureet became RP’s second wicket. Railways, losing 3 wickets on the same score, finished on 168 for 4.
