Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the Group A match between defending champions of Ranji Trophy 2015-16, Karnataka, and Rajasthan. The match is being played at the scenic Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and it is the home ground for the Rajasthan team. Both the teams have won the Ranji Trophy in recent years. Karnataka have won two in a row in 2013-14 and 2014-15, whereas Rajasthan had won consecutive trophies in 2010-11 and 2011-12. But, if their performances this season are anything to go by, then both the teams cannot be ranked very high. Both Rajasthan and Karnataka would look to bring their A game forward in an expectedly high-intensity clash. The match has been a competitive one so far. Batting first, the defending champions Karnataka scored 281. Fifties from Mayank Agarwal and Samarth R were the highlight of their innings, while AV Choudhary’s five-wicket haul was the notable contribution from Rajasthan.

When the hosts came out to bat, they didn’t have the best of the starts and kept losing their  wickets and were soon four down for 48. It took some rebuilding work from the veteran player Rajat Bhatia, who was unlucky to miss out on a well-deserved hundred, when Karnataka captain Vinay Kumar dismissed him for 99.

Rajasthan are 219/7 at the moment and trailing Karnataka by 62 runs. Day three will be interesting contest between bat and ball, as both the teams will strive hard for gaining the upper hand in the match.

They still require 316 runs, which seems to be a herculean task for them. On the other hand, defending champions Karnataka need just seven more wickets for a straight win and six points. Just like the first innings, their pacers have taken all the wickets to fall so far. Sreenath Arvind started the carnage when he got the opener Saxena caught behind the wickets. Soon AV Deshpande too fell without scoring, again to Arvind. Rajasthan skipper Ashok Menaria was the last man to be dismissed on Day 3 when he was cleaned-up by youngster David Mathias. Opener PI Sharma and night-watchman TM Ul Haq will start Day 4 for Rajasthan.

Live cricket scores Karnataka 318/5 | Overs 63 | Batting: CM Gautam 36(52), J Suchith 3(4): Riding on Robin Uthappa’s monstrous knock of 128-ball 160, Karnataka scored five for 318 in virtually no time and set Rajasthan a victory target of 358 to win. Wicket-keeper batsman CM Gautam also played a handy knock of unbeaten 36 runs. Rajasthan bowlers were carted around the park in the second innings and only Rajat Bhatia (2 for 44) had a good outing. Rajasthan now face a herculean task of chasing 358 and surviving in the match.

Reddy and Stuart Binny are the two players who were dismissed before tea. Reddy was the first one to go as he was stumped by DH Yagnik off Rajat Bhatia’s bowling. Binny played some attacking shots before falling to AB Singh. He scored a quickfire 29 from 33 balls.

Uthappa has been the aggressor, as he has notched 13 fours and a huge six so far. Reddy too is playing a good hand here. The two have consolidated Karnataka’s position in the match and would press for a win hereon.

Another first-innings hero Samarth R has come out now in the middle to join Abhishek Reddy, who’s looking solid with his 43 not out. He’s smashed five boundaries so far.

Abhishek Reddy has in no time put up 33 runs from 34 balls. He has struck four boundaries so far in his stay. Quite a contrast, that his otherwise attacking partner Mayank Agarwal is unbeaten on 5 from 15 balls.

Live cricket scores Rajasthan 242 | Overs 91.4 | Batting: AV Choudhary 15(20): Rajasthan have been bundled out this morning for 242, giving the vital 39 run first-innings lead. Resuming from their overnight score of seven for 219, they could add just 23 runs to their total. The three wickets to fall this morning were of Deepak Chahar, AB Singh and TM Ul Haq. For Karnataka, nine wickets were taken by seamers; three each by skipper Vinay and Arvind, two by newbie David Mathias and one by Stuart Binny, who also affected the lone wicket.
