Good Morning, Namaste! Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day 4, Round 5 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17. I am Shruti Hariharan, and I will be bringing to you the live updates from today’s action. There has not been any play whatsoever in couple of matches as both the games scheduled in Delhi have been called off due to low visibilty caused by air pollution. The matches that were being played at Delhi were that of Gujarat vs Bengal, and Hyderabad vs Tripura have been rescheduled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and has not abandoned them. There have been interesting results in the day so far as Saurasthra lost a wicket without ticking the score board on Day 3. Arup Das did well with his seven-wicket haul as they dismantled Saurashtra for 153 in the first innings and then picked the only wicket to have been fallen in the second innings as well. Assam too had a tough time on the field as they were bowled out for 171. This game is going to take many turns as both the teams have fought hard on a surface, which has been conducive for bowling.
Former champions Delhi are trailing by just six runs in the second innings, however they have been enforced follow-on by Jharkhand on Day 3 at the St Xavier’s College Ground in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. Jharkhand, who were batting first, were bowled out for a healthy total of 493, skittled Delhi for 334 in the opening innings, while Delhi chose to go ahead and enforce a follow-on, while batting in the second innings post follow-on, Delhi were 165 for the loss of a wicket, while Unmukt Chand, and Rishabh Pant score centuries in the previous innings, as Sunny Gupta of Jharkhand claimed three wickets.
Railways who were playing at 76 for 3 were bundled out for 160 and also began their second innings, playing at 135 for 4 on Day 3 of Round 5 on Monday. Vijay Gohil from Mumbai shone for his side with a fifer while Shardul Thakur, Balwinder Sandhu ended with two wickets while Tushar Deshpande took apiece to bundle out Railways. Karn Sharma was the only highest-scorer for the side while Ashish Singh also contributed with the bat as he ended with the score of 22. At the moment Saurabh Wakaskar scored 39 and was dismissed by Gohil while Arindam Ghosh was also gone for 31 with Siddhesh Lad getting a crucial wicket and the only so far in this match.
Expect another action packed day as this is also the final day of the games. All the teams will come out hard and try to snatch as many points as possible. This has been a beautiful exhibition of bowling so far by both the teams and will look to keep the momentum going on the final day as well.
