Ranji-Trophy-2016 Hello and welcome to Cricket Country’s coverage of the fifth and final day of the quarter-final stage of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17. Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand have made it to the semi-finals already. While Tamil Nadu beat former champions Karnataka by 7 wickets to make it to the semi-final stage, Jharkhand eased past Haryana by 5 wickets to make it to their first ever semi-final. In the other quarter-final matches, defending champions Mumbai need 3 wickets and Hyderabad need 111 more runs to make it to the next round. Balachander Anirugh, who is batting on 40 for Hyderabad, holds the key for his side from here. 21-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler Vijay Gohil has five wickets to his name so far. Gujarat have almost made it to the semi-final stage. They already have a mammoth 578-run lead in the second innings, thanks to Samit Gohel’s unbeaten 261. Gujarat had earlier in the match taken a 64-run lead in the first-innings after bowling Odisha out for 199 after they had scored 263 in their first innings. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with 5 for 41. Gujarat are now in pole position to make it to the semi-final of the tournament. Tomorrow being the final day, it is unlikely that Odisha will chase down a target close to 600. However, the Gujarat bowlers will look to pick up all the 10 wickets and complete a win. If Odisha hang on to a draw, Gujarat will still make it to the next round as they secured a first innings lead. Mumbai too would want to continue their good run in the tournament. They beat Saurashtra in the final in the previous season and look all set to repeat that feat  this time as well.
