South Africa will take on Australia in the first Test of their three-match Test series, starting at the SuperSports Park in Centurion on Wednesday.

South African captain Graeme Smith said his team were happy to be regarded as favourites ahead of the first Test against Australia which starts at SuperSport Park.

“If you are the number one team in the world you have to be favourites,” Smith said on Tuesday.

“It’s something we have become accustomed to and we feel very comfortable with it. We’ve been number one for a period of time and we’ve travelled to some tough places to get it and to defend it.”

The curator at Centurion Park, the venue of the first Test between South Africa and Australia, has asked the visitors not to worry about the pitch.

Some members of the Australian camp were in disbelief when they trained at the venue last week and could not find anything closely resembling a cricket pitch in the middle.
