This is Vishal Mehra and I shall be presenting to you the live updates from the game as and when they occur. South Africa on Day 2 after getting thrashed all around the park found themselves chasing 629 runs as Skipper Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers stood at crease at stumps with Africa 141 for 2. Amla managed to score his first half century in a long time with South Africa needing more 488 runs to make something of the match. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 353/3|130  overs | Trail by 276 | Batting:  Hashim Amla 157(371), Faf du Plessis 51(115): STUMPS!! Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis have managed to hold fort the final session without much risk being taken. Amla and Du Plessis has so far made 85* run stand with South Africa needing 276 runs to gain a lead over England. This has been all South Africa’s day with them only losing the single wicket of AB de Villiers who missed out on a century by 12 runs.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 331/3|120  overs | Trail by 298| Batting:  Hashim Amla 153(346), Faf du Plessis 34(78): Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis have looked to block everything and anything the English have to offer. Amla in particular after crossing 150 have only scored 3 runs. Du Plessis looked to more settled in the middle after spending more than hour at the crease. Joe Root and Alex Hales have come into bowling duties for England.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 320/3|109.3  overs | Trail by 310| Batting:  Hashim Amla 150(287), Faf du Plessis 27(38): 150!! Brilliant knock by Hashim Amla after having a disastrous 2015. England will want to pick up wickets as we head into the final hour of play. Amla in his innings of 150 has hit 21 boundaries. Faf du Plessis has looked more in control than the whole of last year.

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 300/3|103.1 overs | Trail by 329| Batting:  Hashim Amla 138(287), Faf du Plessis 19(38): Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis have so far looked in control with a few moments of scare after outside edges failed to find a fielder. Steven Finn has managed to worry the South African’s when ever he has come on to bowl. Amla would also be looking to get past 150.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 292/3|98 overs | Trail by 337| Batting:  Hashim Amla 133(275), Faf du Plessis 16(13): Hashim Amla will want to carry his bat through till the final fall of the day. Faf du Plessis who is having horrific run with the bat off late would need to bat out his skin to have any chances of South Africa avoiding follow-on. England will look to take early wickets into the session.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 290/3|97 overs | Trail by 340| Batting:  Hashim Amla 132(275), Faf du Plessis 15(13): TEA!! Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis take South Africa into tea placed 290 for 3 still trailing England by 339 runs. Finn who had troubled De Villiers through-out the day manage to bounce him out,straight into the leaping James Anderson. De Villiers missed out on a hundred by 12 runs.

 LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 268/3|93.3 overs | Trail by 361| Batting:  Hashim Amla 126(248), Faf du Plessis 0(0): OUT!! Steven ‘Finn’ally gets AB de Villiers. De Villiers who was looking good for a hundred missed it by 12 runs as in an attempt to pull, gets caught by a jumping James Anderson. Anderson had yesterday dropped De Villiers, doesn’t miss out this time. South Africa still trail England by 361 runs.

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 252/2|86.2 overs | Trail by 377| Batting:  Hashim Amla 117(248) ,AB de Villiers 81(187): Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers have been able to survive the initial new ball scare. James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been unable to find any luck with the new ball. Apart from an edge that just fell short of slips, nothing has gone England’s way.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 234/2|81 overs | Trail by 395| Batting:  Hashim Amla 110(232) ,AB de Villiers 71(171): First over with the new ball and James Anderson has caused problems swing the ball back into Hashim Amla. Prior to the new ball English bowlers looked out of ideas now have suddenly sprung into action.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 209/2|72.6 overs | Trail by 420| Batting:  Hashim Amla 101(219) ,AB de Villiers 56(141):HUNDRED!! Hashim Amla gets past his 24th Test ton with a beautiful four. Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers bring up the much needed 200 for South Africa chasing England’s mammoth 629 runs. This session of play will be crucial for both the teams as this can decide who goes on to win, lose or even draw the match. Steven Finn after having a good session will hope for better results in a bid to pick up wickets. There is only 8 overs remaining before England get the new ball.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 199/2|72 overs | Trail by 430| Batting:  Hashim Amla 91(208) ,AB de Villiers 56(141): LUNCH!!  Amla and De Villiers so far have managed to 114* run stand for third wicket. England go into lunch wicket less as James Anderson failed to get the ball to swing. De Villiers also went on achieve his 8000th Test run for South Africa only behind Jacques Kallis and Greame Smith. South Africa still trail England by 430 runs.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 180/2| 64.5 overs | Trail by 449| Batting:  Hashim Amla 76(184) ,AB de Villiers 52(116): FIFTY!! Well played AB de Villiers, FOUR get on to his 39th Test century and cross 8000 career runs for South Africa. De Villiers is now the only third player for South Africa to get 8000 run milestone after Kallis and Greame Smith. 

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 167/2| 58 overs | Trail by 462| Batting:  Hashim Amla 73(170) ,AB de Villiers 41(95): The first hour has produced a game of cat and mouse. England have bowled well and South Africa batsmen have shown great patience with the bat. Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers partnership has now contributed 78* run to the team’s total. De Villiers has been mostly been troubled by Steven Finn. Finn has got the ball to bounce creating a few chances for England to pick up wickets. Moeen Ali been been brought up into the attack to extract any spin from the pitch.South Africa still trail England by 462 runs.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 156/2| 50 overs | Trail by 473| Batting:  Hashim Amla 69(144) ,AB de Villiers 35(73): Both AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla has looked good in the first half and hour of play. Apart from an edge and a few balls falling just short at point, slip  De Villiers had looked in complete control leaving anything outside the off stump. Steven Finn and James Anderson have bowled good line and length to the batsmen, Anderson is yet to get an swing.Finn has managed to trouble De Villiers. South Africa still trail England by 474 runs.

 LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 150/2| 44.2 overs | Trail by 488| Batting:  Hashim Amla 65(116) ,AB de Villiers 33(57): 150!! up for South Africa. James Anderson into the attack.Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers will want to get off to a good start early on before steady making steady progress towards England’s 629. Steven Finn has managed to get an edge second ball as the ball fell short of Joe Root. Root on Day 2 had dropped De Villiers for 5.De Villiers hit a lovely straight drive last ball of the first over of the day.South Africa are still 479 runs behind England.

South Africa have ended the day well, but they still trail England by 488 runs at stumps. Hashim Amla has reached a half-century and AB de Villiers is supporting him well in the middle. The duo have added 56 for the third wicket and their primary aim on Day Three will be to help the Proteas avoid the follow-on. : Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers have looked together, after the fall of Dean Elgar for 44. Amla and De Villiers. De Villiers was lucky to be dropped by Joe Root on five in Slips of James Anderson.

Earlier in the day, Ben Stokes and Jonathan Bairstow put on 399 runs, which is the highest sixth wicket partnership in Tests. They achieved this feat during the second Test against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town. Bairstow came into bat on Day One when the score was 223 for 5 after Joe Root was dismissed for 50. Stokes and Bairstow played aggressive cricket throughout in their partnership and as a result England declared at 629 for 6, with Stokes scoring 258 and Bairstow remaining unbeaten on 150.
