Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket scores and updates of the first of the three-match T20I series between South Africa and Sri Lanka. After being thrashed in the longer format, Sri Lanka will be eager to grasp their first win of the tour and turn the tides in the shortest format. It  should be a tight contest between a side  that is struggling to regain form against a revamped Protea side who are ticking all the boxes since mid 2016. A good start to the short series will serve well and this will be on both sides’ mind at Centurion.

Sri Lanka will fancy their chances against a completely new-look South African side led by Farhaan Behardien. Proteas are without the likes of Hashim Amla, Test skipper Faf du Plessis, wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, pacers Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander. This is a big opportunity for the likes of Beherdien, who is leading an inexperienced bunch comprising of JJ Smuts, Andile Phehlukwayo, Aaron Phangiso, Lungisani Ngidi and gloovesman Mangaliso Mosehle. They will be adamant of making a statement and cementing their place in the side. On the other hand, Sri Lanka are without the services of Lasith Malinga and will be led by Angelo Mathews.

Mathews had a disastrous three-match Test series, both as skipper and player, and will be eyeing a turnaround in the most unpredictable format. The performances of Dinesh Chandimal, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Mendis will also be under scanner.

The series is expected to present a tight contest between Sri Lanka’s experienced yet out-of-form side facing off an inexperienced side  which will be eager to start on a positive note.
