Good Morning/Afternoon, Goeie môre, ගුඩ් දහවල්! Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog session of Day Three of the ongoing second of the three-Test series between hosts South Africa and visitors Sri Lanka, at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town on Wednesday. I am Chinmay Jawalekar, and I will be bringing to you all the live updates from today’s action. As of now, South Africa are in a good state. Although, they have denied themselves from inflicting a follow-on over the visitors, they stand in a commanding position now, with a heavy 317-run lead. As for Lanka, they really have some uphill task to do at the moment.

After dominating the first day’s play, South Africa consolidated their position in the second Test against Sri Lanka with a resounding performance with both bat as well as ball on Day Two. The second day’s play on Tuesday at Cape Town saw as many as 14 wickets tumble, with South Africa ending their first innings on 392 — thanks to hundreds from Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock — and then bundling out Sri Lanka for 110 in their first innings. Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada took 4 wickets apiece to script the Lankan downfall.

At the close of play, South Africa scored 35 without loss to extend their overall lead by 317 runs with all 10 wickets intact. The hosts are thus well placed for a big win in the Test, as three days’ play is yet to take place. On Day Three, South Africa will like to assess the situation going forward and decide what sort of target they need to set for Sri Lanka.
