Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the sixth One-Day International (ODI) between Sri Lanka and England at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Saturday. This is Varun Arora, and I will be bringing you the live updates of the match.

The series is nicely poised with Sri Lanka leading the series with a margin of 3-2. England looked to be left behind in the series but they did well in the last couple of matches to bounce back. Joe Root is their key man, and so is James Taylor. The form of Alastair Cook remains a worry for them.

Joe Root scored an unbeaten century and James Taylor notched an inspired 68 as England beat Sri Lanka by five wickets in the fifth ODI. England’s win keeps their chances alive in the seven-match series, with the visitors now trailing 2-3 against Sri Lanka with two matches still to play. Root’s 104 not out laid the foundation for England’s win, and earned him man of the match. Taylor was omitted for the first three games, and has been determined to prove the selectors wrong ever since, scoring 90 in the last game, AFP reported.

That’s all over, Sri Lanka have sealed this match by 90 runs and have the series 4-2. England lost those early wickets and could never really get going. Joe Root and Chris Woakes played well but wickets kept tumbling quickly.
OUT!!!Woakes c and b Dilshan 41(49) and J Tredwell c Dilshan b Senanayake 19(22)

It is Lakmal again who has done twin damage again. Earlier he picked the wicket of Bopara and Morgan in a span of two balls and now the wickets of Butler and Jordan in his two overs.
OUT!! Joe Root b Lakmal 55(76) and Chris Jordan c Sangakkara b Lakmal 4(6)

England have two set batsmen on the crease and they have opted for the batting powerplay in the 33rd over. This is an interesting move, if they manage to get some quick runs in this period this match could go down to the wire.

Yet another brilliant knock from Joe Root as he gets to his half-century off 69 balls. Woakes has played some beautiful shots too. England need 132 runs off 19 overs at just close to seven runs per over.

Jos Butler and Joe Root were going well but the run-out has pulled England back into trouble. Root has to stay on the crease if England has to stay in contention for win here.
OUT!!! J Buttler run out (Thirimanne) 22(26)

Suranga Lakmal has picked two wickets in two balls. First gets the wicket of Ravi Bopara and then gets Eoin Morgan. Bopara was served with a wide delivery which he edge to Sangakkara behind the stumps. Jos Butler who came in to face the hat-trick ball hits a boundary, relieving the tense nerves.
OUT!! Bopara c Sangakkara b Lakmal 13(20) and Eoin Morgan c Sangakkara b Lakmal 0(1)

One more wicket down. Just feel that Moeen Ali has played a few good knocks but has just failed to carry it on. Ravi Bopara is in early in the innings. They need a big partnership here.
OUT!! Moeen Ali c Sangakkara b Dilshan 34(32)

England’s struggle against spin continues as in-form James Taylor perishes giving Senanayake his second wicket of the wicket. Joe Root, centurion from last match has come onto crease now.
OUT!James Taylor b Senanayake 10(12)

Sachithra Senanayake has got the first wicket. It’s the wicket of Alastair Cook. Not a likeable start by England, Cook has struggled in this series so far.
OUT!! A Cook lbw b Senanayake 1(2)

Sri Lanka have done well to reach to reach a score close to 300. It will be a challenging task for the England team to achieve this total. England seamers did a good job in the first 10 overs but Sri Lanka came back in the game owing to the 153-run partnership between Sangakkara and Dilshan. Sangakkara continued his sublime form at home.
OUT!T Perera c Cook b Woakes 16(10) and D Chandimal b Jordan 35(31)

Sangakkara has been removed by Chris Jordan in the 45th over. He needed to stay there. It was a short delivery, he moved towards the leg side and hits it straight to Moeen Ali at covers.
K Sangakkara c Moeen Ali b Jordan 112(112)

Sangakkara gets to his 20th ODI century and fourth hundred of 2014. He got to his hundred off 104 balls. Sangakkara has steered this Sri Lankan innings from the start and now he has an essential role to play in the last few overs.

Prasanna is dismissed by Steven Finn. But still a good cameo from him which included two sixes. And now Finn gets the big wicket of Angelo Mathews. Mathews wicket was crucial here in the final overs. England have just sneaked back into the match in this powerplay. 200 has come up. 38 runs coming from the powerplay plus two wickets.
OUT! S Prasanna c Eoin Morgan b Finn 20(12) and A Mathews c Buttler b Finn 1(5)

Finally a wicket for England. 153-run partnership comes to an end, Tredwell has done the job for his team. Dilshan looked uneasy against the spinners from the beginning and he has thrown it away. It a loopy delivery outside off and Dilshan took a few steps out and hit straight to long-on fielder. He had reached the pitch of the ball but failed to hit it well. Seekkuge Prasanna is in just before the batting powerplay.
OUT!Dilshan c Bopara b Tredwell 68(105)

Sangakkara hits the first six of the Sri Lankan innings in the 29th over. Jordan bowls a length ball on the leg stump and Sangakkara just pulled it with charismatic flow. Sangakkara steps down the track and hits Ali for a boundary towards the deep mid-wicket region. Another one!! Sangakkara has turned on the attacking gear here. England need to think of something here.

That’s the 100-run partnership. Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara have bailed out Sri Lanka from the early threat which appeared after the dismissal of Jayawardene. Now, that is 92nd ODI half-century for Sangakkara. Fifth of this series. Dilshan follows Sangakkara’s way. That is 41st ODI fifty for him.

Moeen Ali comes around the wicket. Dilshan goes for a wild cover drive and the ball misses everything. Dilshan has struggled against the spin while his partner has been dominating against the spinners. Oh No ! Such a lazy effort from Alastair Cook. It a full delivery outside off stump, Sangakkara smacked it straight to Cook at mid-off and he put it down.

The runs have finally started flowing. Dilshan and Sangakkara have stabilized the innings and now are adding cherries to the foundation. Sangakkara has been the key for Sri Lanka. He has already amassed four half-centuries so far and another doesn’t look too far. 52 runs coming from these 10 overs.

Tredwell was drafted in for one over and then removed. Jordan and Ali continuing here. Meanwhile, Sangakkara and Dilshan have completed the 50-run stand. They have just steamed out of the early pressure created by Finn and Woakes quite nicely.

After the mandatory powerplay, Sri Lanka have crawled to 27. England seamers have really kept the things tidy this morning. Now. Moeen Ali comes to bowl the 11th over and James Tredwell from the other end.

Sri Lanka continue in the slow and steady way. Woakes has bowled a beautiful spell this morning, continuing from where he left in the last match.

It has been slow start by the Sri Lankans. Chris Woakes bowled a very good first over and now he has got a big wicket. Mahela Jayawardene has been dismissed. It was a length delivery just shaping down the leg and Jayawardene who tried to flick it gets a leading edge to mid-off. Kumar Sanngakkara has arrived to the crease only in the fourth over.
OUT!!M Jayawardene c Taylor b Woakes 5 (15)
