Sri Lanka start as strong favourites, although the Jason Holder-led West Indies will attempt to bounce back.
Greetings! Ayubowan! Welcome to CricketCountry's live coverage of the opening day of the second and final Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on Thursday. This is Amit Banerjee, and I shall be presenting to you regular updates from the match. Sri Lanka are currently leading the series 1-0 after their dominant innings and six-run win in the series opener at Galle. Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal played vital roles with the bat, scoring 186 and 151 respectively, to help Sri Lanka finish on a massive total of 484. West Indies in reply, struggled against the Sri Lankan spin department as they were bowled out for scores of 251 and 227 respectively. Rangana Herath was the destroyer-in-chief of the tourists, weaving his web of spin to trap the West Indian batsmen by recording match figures of 10 for 147. LIVE CRICKET SCORE West Indies 17/1 in Overs 5.2; BATTING: Kraigg Brathwaite 4(14), Devendra Bishoo 5(15): The visitors are off to a shaky start in their innings, with Shai Hope continuing his poor form with the bat by getting dismissed for a run-a-ball 4, who hit a boundary off the previous ball. Dhammika Prasad is the bowler to get the early breakthrough, trapping him lbw. The umpires call for close of play 16.4 overs earlier than what was initially planned due to poor light and the high possibility of a heavy spell of rain. OUT! Shai Hope lbw Dhammika Prasad 4(4)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 200 in Overs 66; BATTING: Rangana Herath 26(40): The Lankans manage to crawl their way to the 200-run mark, thanks to the efforts by Herath, before debutant Jomel Warrican takes two quick wickets to wipe the tailenders out. While the hosts will head back to the pavilion with the moral victory of reaching 200, West Indies will be elated at their superb bowling performance that reduced Sri Lanka to a total less than half of their score in the first Test. OUT! Dhammika Prasad c Denesh Ramdin b Jomel Warrican 7(24), Nuwan Pradeep lbw b Jomel Warrican 0(2)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 175/8 in Overs 59; BATTING: Rangana Herath 7(21), Dhammika Prasad 1(3): Milinda Siriwardana departs after braving his way to a score of 68. The southpaw comes down the track in the 111th delivery and attempts to smash Warrican towards long-off for a six. He is however caught by Jerome Taylor at the position, with Sri Lanka losing their eighth wicket with 173 on board. OUT! Milinda Siriwardana c Jerome Taylor b Jomel Warrican 68(111)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 150/7 in Overs 52; BATTING: Milinda Siriwardana 52(90), Rangana Herath 1(3): Devendra Bishoo, who was the leading wicket-taker for the visitors in the previous Test with figures of 4 for 143, gets his first wicket of the innings by getting Dilruwan Perera stumped. Perera, who comes in place of the out-of-touch Tharindu Kaushal, steps forward with the intention going for a drive off the delivery that is pitched along the middle-stump. He misses the ball completely, due to massive turn by the ball. Tries to return to the crease, but Ramdin is quick to whip the bails off. OUT! Dilruwan Perera st Denesh Ramdin b Devendra Bishoo 5(28)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 145/6 in Overs 47; BATTING: Milinda Siriwardana 50(77), Dilruwan Perera 3(14): The Sri Lankans have toiled their way to a score of 145, with Siriwardana bringing up his maiden Test fifty with a six. The West Indians are still on top of the game at the moment, and look likely to bowl the hosts out for less than 200. Meanwhile, Kusal Perera gets caught and bowled by Jomel Warrican to give the latter his maiden international wicket. Read the tea report of Day 1 of the second Test here. OUT! Kusal Perera c &b Jomel Warrican 16(26)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 93/5 in Overs 35; BATTING: Milinda Siriwardana 18(41), Kusal Perera 1(4): Taylor strikes again! This time he sends the other centurion from the first Test back to the pavilion with a ripper of a delivery. The ball angles into the batsmen after being pitched on the off-stump on a good length, and gets a slight inside edge to rattle the timber! West Indies have managed to dismiss half the side after conceding less than 100 runs, a remarkable turnaround from the first Test so far. OUT! Dinesh Chandimal b Jerome Taylor 25(71)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 88/4 in Overs 30; BATTING: Dinesh Chandimal 23(57), Milinda Siriwardana 16(29): Chandimal and Siriwardana are currently rebuilding the Sri Lankan innings, having added 29 runs for the fifth wicket so far. The visitors continue to employ the services of Warrican and Roach, both of whom are fairly economical in their approach so far.
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 59/4 in Overs 21; BATTING: Dinesh Chandimal 11(29), Milinda Siriwardana 0(3): Sri Lanka lose yet another important wicket! This time it is skipper Angelo Mathews, who falls for a score of 14 off 27 balls after getting caught by Kraigg Brathwaite off the bowling of his West Indian counterpart Jason Holder, with the hosts losing their fourth wicket for just 59 runs. Read the lunch report of the opening day of the second Test here. OUT! Angelo Mathews c Kraigg Brathwaite b Jason Holder 14(27)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 36/3 in Overs 12; BATTING: Dinesh Chandimal 0(1), Angelo Mathews 2(4): The West Indians seem to be all over the Sri Lankans at the moment, having taken three crucial wickets in the very first session thanks to the pace and bounce on the P Sara wicket. After the early wicket of Silva, Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis somewhat attempt to hold the Lankan innings together and see off the new ball. While Karunaratne gets trapped by an inswinging delivery by West Indian skipper Jason Holder, Mendis nicks a good length delivery to wicketkeeper Ramdin while attempting to defend a Kemar Roach delivery. OUT! Dimuth Karunaratne lbw Jason Holder 13(39), Kusal Mendis c Denesh Ramdin b Jerome Taylor 13(27)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 19/1 in Overs 5; BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 11(19), Kusal Mendis 4(10): Sri Lanka are off to a shaky start, following the early dismissal of Kausal Silva, who appeared to have nicked a Jerome Taylor delivery to wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin to depart for a golden duck. Silva's woes with the bat continue, as does Sri Lanka's problems with its opening combination of Dimuth Karunaratne and Silva. OUT! Kausal Silva c Denesh Ramdin b Jerome Taylor 0(1)
Sri Lanka currently are the strong favourites to whitewash the series 2-0, given their strength on home soil. The West Indians appear clueless at the moment, something that will worry newly-appointed Test skipper Jason Holder to no end. The visitors must look at alternate options for the upcoming game, such as bolstering their spin department by including someone like Jomel Warrican.
